I can’t decide between Florence Pugh and Anya Taylor-Joy.March 15, 2021 at 5:54 am #1204132803
I’m thinking that the Mauritanian received no love mainly because of political reasons.March 15, 2021 at 5:52 am #1204132779
I can’t understand how Lakeith Stanfield and Daniel Kaluuya could be nominated for best supporting male act while Stanfield was a lead and he replaced Boseman’s place? I think that was the biggest snub of the Academy. I mean, Kaluuya was a lock but Stanfield really belonged to the supporting category?
Then comes Aaron Sorkin snub. To be frank, I’m so happy that Vinterberg got in. I was too scared to predict him and I wish I took the risk.March 14, 2021 at 6:34 pm #1204127532
After watching the Mauritanian, I’m thinking of replacing Yeun with Rahim. I don’t want to make a last minute change but my gut is telling me that Rahim deserves that nomination more. I think, Yeun’s performance was safe but Rahim’s performance really gave me a lot of feels. Should I do give the 5th spot to Rahim instead of Yeun?March 14, 2021 at 4:00 pm #1204125425

I keep thinking to myself Another Round surely should get another nomination outside of foreign film considering the success of international cinema last year and the year prior (Roma nominations across the board, Pawel making it in directing and Cold War being nominated in cinematography). But I can’t see it anywhere in actor, director, original screenplay, or cinematography. Surely it has to get an additional nomination somewhere but I’m not predicting it.
Another Round deserves to get a nomination for Best Leading Actor, Best Original Screenplay and Best Directing. I think, it’s the only thing BAFTAs got right this year. I’m still mad at BAFTAs for pulling a Carey Mulligan snub when she’s a talented British actress. Anyway, let’s get back to Another Round. It seems like it’s really a long shot for Another Round to receive another nomination at the moment but I’d be so happy if it would be the surprise of the day.March 14, 2021 at 3:48 pm #1204125282
The way Zhao outacted everyone in that weak category last year. I never predicted her though but I did predict Awkwafina. She came so close with her Globe win and a potential The Farewell Original Screenplay nomination. But then the film was completely shut out. One of the worst nomination mornings.
The Farewell definitely deserved better at Oscars. So did their actors. I was shocked when it received zero nomination.March 14, 2021 at 3:45 pm #1204125260
I’m really torn about The Father, Da 5 Bloods and News Of The World, or even The Mauritanian for the 9th and 10th spot.
I’m currently watching the Mauritanian now which is making me consider about changing my predictions. I have a feeling like it might receive more nominations than expected. It might be because I’m liking the movie so far. I’m not sure about the last 2 spots, too. Perhaps, the last 2 spots could never be there if the Academy nominates 8 movies instead of 10. I haven’t seen the Father because it’s not available anywhere but I still predicted it because it seems to be doing so well with nominations. I mean, I put the Father in the 8th rank. As for 9th and 10th ranks, I included Judas and the Black Messiah and Da 5 Bloods but I’m thinking Sound of Metal and/or News of the World could replace them unless the Mauritanian does.March 14, 2021 at 3:37 pm #1204125178
If Viola Davis gets snubbed, Carey Mulligan might get snubbed, too. But who could replace their places? I think, it’s all because of BAFTA that we’re here thinking and worrying that Viola can get snubbed.March 14, 2021 at 3:34 pm #1204125144
Please just shut down the predictions center… I keep changing my predictions because like what Meryl Streep once said:
I’m trying too hard not to change mine. In multiple choice exams, whenever I changed my answers, I ended up making mistakes which means I did regret it a lot. So I don’t want to regret it now.March 14, 2021 at 3:29 pm #1204125075
And as the hours count down, I become more and more unsure of my director picks – the DGA five. Even though replacing Regina King with Fennell makes sense, I still get the feeling that King could make it. But who would she replace? Fennell? Sorkin?
I get what you mean. I think it will be either Fennell or King.March 14, 2021 at 2:31 pm #1204124079
God, I just finished watching One Night in Miami and the Kingsley Ben-Adir robbery is such a damn shame. For me, he was far and away the best part of this movie, trailed closely by, of course, Leslie Odom Jr. What a shame that he never gained momentum because he should undoubtedly be in the Best Actor conversation.
Yesterday, while I was looking at my predictions, I was like why is no one talking about Kingsley Ben-Adir’s possible nomination while everyone is talking about Leslie Odom Jr.’s potential nomination? In my opinion, Kingsley Ben-Adir delivered the most outstanding performance of the film and he deserves a nomination.
