Here’s what I’m thinking for BNA, but still expecting some surprise. Muni Long is finally picking up steam. I think it’s between her, Zach Bryan or a surprise Black Country New Road win.

Soccer MommyJune 26, 2022 at 3:56 am #1204996503I brought up MUNA a long time ago. It definitely is giving the same vibe as Haim, Phoebe Bridgers, Courtney Barnett, Maggie Rogers. I would love it if they actually won too, but look at the other artists I mentioned and their Grammy track records… I do think if any year, it’s this year they could pull it off though!

June 16, 2022 at 5:52 am #1204985225People are definitely underestimating Brandi a bit. I think these are your firm top 7…
Adele
Bad Bunny
Beyoncé
Brandi Carlile
Harry Styles
Kendrick Lamar
Silk SonicThen the other 1-3 nominations (depending if there’s 8 or 10) are a complete toss-up. I would guess:
Big Thief
Coldplay
LizzoJune 9, 2022 at 6:12 am #1204977100The Big Thief situation has left them in a tricky position. They’re topping all of the best of the year so far lists, but then the Israel show back and forth is a bad look for their fanbase. This isn’t to say if the show they are doing is right or wrong, but more to do with their response to both putting the show on and then cancelling. Their fanbase tends to be a bit more of the far-left and now a lot of the indie music sites are dragging them… we’ll see if this is forgotten about as the year goes on.
June 9, 2022 at 6:09 am #1204977091Love these categories!
I’m hoping Florence + the Machine has a little more chance to finally win once with Alternative performance.
May 28, 2022 at 4:57 am #1204966030Quinton Brunson is the potential surprise winner. There is a lot of passion for her and the show. It’s being treated like ABC’s prized show and Disney will put some money behind it. It’s definitely going to pick up buzz over the summer on Disney+. I could see some of the supporting cast even getting in. Jean Smart is definitely the frontrunner, but Brunson could definitely pick up steam, being she’s also a writer on it.
May 27, 2022 at 10:16 am #1204965455Rolling Stone calling Tate McRae an “algorithmic pop girl” is kind of spot on… I think her commercial success could get her in, but there’s a lot of pop music that is very disposable and the Grammy’s have never gone for that unless they have a major breakthrough. I honestly can’t hum along to any of her songs, there’s nothing memorable. abcdefu is memorable, but Gayle has all but disappeared now. I couldn’t think of a Conan Gray song. Lauren Spencer-Smith is bland. Ava Max has mid-level hits, but her album is just a collection of her radio hits with no cohesion or plan behind it and no doubt her next one will be too. For a pop singer, they need to breakthrough and become a household name with songs that are catchy to make it in and the ones mentioned above just aren’t that.
May 27, 2022 at 10:07 am #1204965451This really feels like a year someone random wins, like if Arooj Aftab was nominated this year instead of last she could. Tate McCrae could be our Meghan Trainor though just as easily…
Lots of Conan Gray talk and I just don’t see it. It’s been years trying, it would be like Ava Max getting in suddenly. It’s not happening, if people didn’t vote for them during years where they had bigger success, it’s not this year.
May 25, 2022 at 7:49 am #1204963055I’ve been doing my digging into him. No major red flags and was quite outspoken about BLM in 2020 on Twitter.
I also feel the same way about Anitta… I don’t see her happening, but it’s a quieter year and she definitely could.
With Best New Artist being so weak, I wouldn’t be surprised if an underground Grammy darling on the rise won.
I can’t take seriously a lineup in which the most stablished name is a latin artist who debuted a decade ago and is eligible due to a technicality, yet they’re still very far from being known globally and having enough crossover appeal to win.
Edit:
But since we’re lowering the standards, I saw that Zach Bryan guy having an impressive debut. Peaking in the top 10 of the Billboard 200. If he plays the game right and doesn’t out himself as a racist, he could be an improved Morgan Wallen.
Zach Bryan is winning. Funny how his name is very similar to the previous Country BNA winner. Zack Brown Band vs. Zach Bryan.
May 25, 2022 at 6:38 am #1204962980This is my current prediction. I think Tate McRae now stands a better chance with the full album coming out and continuing to be bubbling under achieving a bigger commercial success, while GAYLE had one massive hit that disappeared quickly and a boring EP. I feel there are one or two artists that could pop up over the summer that could bump a few of these off (LS-S…). I hope they go back down to 8 nominees. I’d cross off L S-S and either Omar or Anitta.

Wet LegMay 24, 2022 at 5:26 pm #1204962635Zach Bryan is having a bit of a breakthrough moment. He’s not your typical BNA frontrunner, but he’s starting to look like a possibility.
May 18, 2022 at 7:30 am #1204955477A Black artist winning AOTY once in 13-14 years is not showing that the Grammys are progressive.
A bunch of reputable white/white-passing women literally lost AOTY this year, even after Gaga paired with a respectable old white man. Doja, Jazmine, Nas, H.E.R etc have gotten their dues this decade.
If we don’t accept that the Grammys are gradually becoming progressive then what exactly will please us? Disqualifying every white person by default? Will the winner in such a case feel accomplished?
May 17, 2022 at 10:11 am #1204954775This is what I was thinking for winners so far. Muni seems like the least likely to happen, but I don’t know who else could win.
I would love for the Grammys to look like:
Record of the Year: “As It Was” — Harry Styles
Album of the Year: Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers — Kendrick Lamar
Song of the Year: “Easy On Me” — Adele
Best New Artist: Muni LongMay 14, 2022 at 4:28 am #1204951712I think Adele definitely stands a chance, but if there’s any year for her to not sweep, it’s this year. I maintain that there is zero urgency to vote for Adele, as well as Silk Sonic. There are zero guarantees for the Grammys now. Look at The Weeknd snub two years ago and Jon Batiste’s win this year. Adele’s album has all but disappeared and I think Kendrick’s will be on people’s lips for the remainder of the year. The only thing that might bring Adele back is her residency and if it’s well received.
