What a great year for pop. Taylor, Ariana, Billie, Jonas Bros, Maggie. I’d love to see those as the pop album nominees.August 24, 2019 at 3:56 am #1203037282
I love Juice, but Truth Hurts is her best chance right now for general fields. If it’s Juice, I don’t see her winning anything. It’ll be tough for Truth Hurts to win in Record (it’s most likely category), where it’s hip-hop, but people love that song. She’ll submit Juice somewhere, but Truth Hurts should be for general.
I kinda want Truth Hurts to be deemed ineligible so the far better Juice gets a Grammys push instead.August 23, 2019 at 12:30 pm #1203036416
Lizzo is doing everything right and now even Good as Hell cracked the top 10 on iTunes with Juice in the top 20 and Truth Hurts at number 1. I’d love to see Good as Hell climb the charts and Juice get a new peak. Good as Hell will have to crack the top 50 on Billboard to be added to the chart though. With the Today Show appearance, remixes and natural climb of Truth Hurts, it’s likely to reach number one after the VMAs. Lover will climb the charts, but I doubt it or Calm Down will reach number one. It’ll just have to beat Señorita next week. She’s really breaking through and taking the spotlight from Billie as the big new artist. She also appeals to a wider and older demographic than Billie and comes across as more likeable. I think Billie will have some stiff competition for BNA if Lizzo’s eligible.August 23, 2019 at 4:09 am #1203035888
We’re getting some great music videos in the last couple of weeks.
Missy Elliott – Throw it Back
Normani – Motivation
Taylor Swift – Lover
Lana Del Rey – **** it I Love You…The Greatest
For new music Friday:
I said enough about Taylor and I’m mostly a fan of the album.
Missy’s new EP isn’t going to be a game changer, but the Throw it Back song and video could make it in the rap categories and music video.
Lana’s new stuff is her best in years.
BROCKHAMPTON is pretty over. I like the singles, but they really can’t break past their core fanbase and this album isn’t getting the reviews or publicity of their last.
Alessia Cara is finally releasing some fun music. Today’s new track OKAY OKAY and last week’s Rooting for You are catchy.
Ava Max’s new one is forgettable.
Charlie Puth’s is meh.
I’m most disappointed in The 1975’s new song. I like that they try something new with each album, but this new song is a very hard listen.August 23, 2019 at 3:09 am #1203035849
I Think He Knows
Those would be my top five after a few listens.August 23, 2019 at 2:15 am #1203035814
If she edited 3-5 songs out in the back half, Lover would be her best for me. I love an album the comes in at around 13 tracks. There are some great pop gems on there. It’s mature without losing its playfulness. I’m not loving ME! can Calm Down’s inclusion. There’s a few too many sleepier tracks at the end too, so maybe remove tracks 12-16. The first half of the album is perfect though.August 22, 2019 at 1:15 pm #1203035191
Lover is a really solid low-key pop album. I’d rank it her third best after 1989 and Red. It’s like a Carly Rae / Lorde / Kacey Musgraves hybrid with two shitty songs (ME! and Calm Down).August 22, 2019 at 11:26 am #1203035116
If Iconology is an actual full new Missy album with all this VMA promo… expect Grammys to eat it up. I can’t wait until midnight!August 21, 2019 at 3:04 pm #1203033902
That Pose finale was so nice. The season was uneven but so lovable. MJ Rodriguez was brought to the forefront, same with Billy Porter. It’ll be tough for Rodriguez to get in to Actress next year with so much competition, but it’s earned.August 19, 2019 at 5:14 pm #1203030803
Talk did better on the Pop charts and Better lasted longer on the R&B charts. Talk is more upbeat and feels poppier and I feel they’ll lean that way.
“Talk” is more of an R&B Song. “Better” would fit better in Pop.
Wasn’t “Better” submitted last year, which would make it ineligible this year? If not, I would root for “Better” to be a Pop Solo nominee.August 19, 2019 at 2:03 pm #1203030515
Yeah, I don’t remember it ever being officially credited as a Disclosure feature artist and not the production team. I’d be really surprised if the Grammys felt the need to do that. It would be like bad guy getting Pop Duo and Group because of Finneas.
It’s not a remix. The song was produced by them and it was originally credited as Khalid featuring Disclosure.
The reason I bring up the fact that it could possibly be placed in Pop Duo/Group instead of Pop Solo is because the Grammys have occasionally nominated artists who weren’t officially billed for their contributions (Nile Rodgers on “Get Lucky,” Drake & Swae Lee on “Sicko Mode,” Jack Johnson on “Gone Going” by the Black Eyed Peas, etc.).August 19, 2019 at 1:51 pm #1203030488
Oh, I didn’t realize about the category title change. That’s good!
I doubt he’d submit the Disclosure remix. It didn’t even register. He’d have a better chance submitting Talk to Pop and Better to R&B.August 19, 2019 at 1:48 pm #1203030482
Talk is now number 1 on radio for 10 weeks, not since Shape of You has this happened. I’d be surprised if he didn’t get into the Pop Vocal Performance category.
Can this award title change already too? Pop Performance with Vocals?August 19, 2019 at 1:29 pm #1203030449
So for the BNA (if we ignore possible ineligibilities…) we have a stacked line-up of great artists. Undoubtedly 2-3 won’t be eligible, but overall it’s pretty good!

I have to agree. I think it will have buzz from knocking OTR out of the top spot. It’s a catchy, good song. It had longevity. Unless people route for OTR, because it’s not like other meme / viral songs… people actually like Lil Nas X. I think Pop Vocal Performance is tight with thank u next, but that song feels really old now.
Yeah Bad Guy is probably winning Pop Solo and possibly ROTY. Good.
