Animated Short, Live-action Short and Documentary Short: N/AJanuary 24, 2023 at 9:34 am #1205263452I guess the entire cast of Hamilton is white now, for playing white characters. Did you see Passing, just last year by any chance?
Of course oddity happens, but when you look at the casting choices of traditional biopic movie, a person’s (perceived) race has to be the essential point for them to be seriously considered, don’t you think?
January 24, 2023 at 9:13 am #1205263338Can you imagine referencing Ana as PoC when she’s literally portraying a white woman. The fact that She’s convincing enough on the look department for this role just shows how non-PoC she is. Remember when Scarlet Johansson got dragged hard by playing an Asian fictional character, same logic applies in here.
January 24, 2023 at 6:02 am #1205261322Last year Penelope and now Andrea? I’m not complaining though, they did the right thing. And so happy for Hsu getting in Supporting Actress, and Close getting in International Features. Mildly disappointed that Decision to leave didn’t make the final cut.
Overall a great list of nominations. Bravo!!!

January 19, 2023 at 4:22 am #1205252494The noms are quite normal this time if we compare it to what happened last year, I was fairly shocked about All Quiet racking up these many nominations and a bit surprised that Tar managed to get as much as five nominations
ReplyJanuary 11, 2023 at 8:11 am #1205235967My six sense tells me that Colin is winning and he will be the sole recipient of banshees in here.
ReplyJanuary 11, 2023 at 7:40 am #1205235670Vote splitting. They all deserved to make it in but there wasn’t room for 5 actresses (Rooney Mara really ought to be campaigned for SUPPORTING!). They are so brilliant! So happy about the Cruise snub! The Fabelmans loses some momentum without a Williams nomination – and thank goodness no Judd Hirsch! The fifth slot is still wide open in Best Actor. Disappointed for She Said ): That was a BRILLIANT ensemble cast! I haven’t seen Blonde and have no opinion on her inclusion. I haven’t seen Adam Sandler’s performance either. Is Eddie Redmayne getting a sole Oscar nomination for The Good Nurse? It’s not getting nommed in any other categories… All and all, I am very pleased with this year’s list! Banshees and Everything Everywhere getting 5 each in particular is delicious!
I actually thought She Said would get in too. I did put Jessica Chastain in Best Actress because I thought it’s a tradition for SAG to put in a few random choices.
ReplyJanuary 11, 2023 at 7:22 am #1205235384Kind of weird that Women Talking got in ensemble without any of its actors making it into their own categories. And no Michelle Williams? Actress is getting really hard to predict at this point.
ReplyJanuary 8, 2023 at 1:15 pm #1205227278Just came here to say that Michelle Yeoh deserves to win, her performance was not as polished and challenging as Cate Blanchett’s Lydia Tar, but it felt very personal and related. I also liked the little kid in Aftersun, could see a bright future ahead of her. This year I’m going for the safe route and choose Yeoh,Blanchett,Williams,Deadwyler and Davis as the final five.
P.S: I stopped posting here after LG missed the nomination last year for her ridiculous campaign. It was a shame but that’s just how life is, excited for her new film by the way.
February 8, 2022 at 4:38 am #1204784703When Jai Bhim gets that last spot in BP
Oops, I thought that was a person.
February 8, 2022 at 4:33 am #1204784689Where is the confidence for this actor Jai Bhim coming from? It’s slaughtering the entire comment section of the Oscar nomination youtube channel right now.
February 8, 2022 at 2:09 am #1204784401It might be more visible to the public but to the industry voters (who get screeners and can login to Academy’s portal), it’s as visible as something like The Power Of The Dog (Netflix) and Being The Ricardos (Amazon).
What I was saying is that many people talk about this film and it’s sort of successful commercially that people would be tempted to put it in. Not that lots of voters will skip the viewing and go for House of Gucci because it’s the only film they see.
February 8, 2022 at 2:02 am #1204784385I don’t understand why House of Gucci would be more well liked by international voters than it is to American voters. The sloppy directing and numerous flaws are so easily visible. I don’t understand how it will get INTERNATIONAL VOTES. Just because it is based in Italy on the Gucci family doesn’t mean non-Americans will like it more.
It has more visibility internationally, apart from Dune or maybe Don’t Look Up. That’s probably the only reason I can think of, not confident about it. But it will be ironic if it does show up and somehow I didn’t predict it, that cannot happen.
February 8, 2022 at 1:56 am #1204784372Had this feeling that House of Gucci is getting the international votes to make the cut, the last spot should be between House of Gucci and Drive My Car, I want Gaga to win so I’m leaning HoG now, I know it’s lame but I have to do this, I’m not expecting it to be correct anyway.
The Power of the Dog
Dune
Licorice Pizza
Belfast
Don’t Look Up
Coda
West Side Story
King Richard
Tick Tick Boom
House of Gucci
Alt: Drive My Car
