Daniel B. replied to the topic Official TOY STORY 4 Thread (Coming June 21st, 2019) in the forum Movies 1 week, 4 days ago
I loved this movie. While the first one will always be my favourite in the franchise, Toy Story 4 is an easy and worthy runner-up, in my opinion.
Is it possible that we are all underestimating Toy Story 4’s chances at a Best Picture nomination?
While the lack of BP nomination for Inside Out isn’t promising for Toy Story 4, the last animated…[Read more]
Who do you think played the part of “Trapper” John McIntyre the best?
Elliott Gould portrayed him in the 1970 film “MASH,” while Wayne Rogers took over the part for the TV series of the same name, and Pernell Roberts played the title role in the TV show “Trapper John, M.D.”
Regardless of screen time for these movies…
Are we sure that Anthony Hopkins is being campaigned as supporting and Jonathan Pryce as lead in The Two Popes? Just watched a trailer, and Hopkins’ name is being billed first.
Same with A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood… Tom Hanks’ name is the only one that appears in the trailer, yet he is…[Read more]

It seems like biopics seem to be the biggest exception when it comes to Oscar voters looking past mixed/lukewarm reviews and focusing on great performances (see The Iron Lady, Bohemian Rhapsody).
Daniel B. replied to the topic Best "Director" vs Best "Screenplay". What's more important? in the forum Movies 2 months, 2 weeks ago
I think Best Director is more important. If anything, its win paired with Best Picture shows that its top prize win was not a fluke.
Winning Best Screenplay isn’t as difficult, since there are two opportunities to win each year with the Adapted and Original categories. Some years, a lot of the BP/BD contenders are stacked in one of the two…[Read more]
Daniel B. replied to the topic Joaquin Phoenix in Joker: Could overdue narrative win him the Oscar? in the forum Movies 2 months, 2 weeks ago
I predict that Joaquin Phoenix will be this year’s Leo, but not one that results in him winning an Oscar for The Joker. His success at the Oscars may mirror that of DiCaprio’s with The Wolf of Wall Street. Many will hail it as the best performance of his career, but I don’t think voters will want to award him for the same character they awarded…[Read more]

Here is a list of every film that was submitted for a nomination for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars, since its introduction in 2001.
Which films do you think were most snubbed for a nomination?
In my opinion, the best films that didn’t get…[Read more]
Daniel B. started the topic Superhero movie most deserving of a Best Picture nomination in the forum Movies 2 months, 4 weeks ago
Last year, Black Panther became the first superhero movie to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars.
Not trying to knock the film or its historic accomplishment, but in my opinion, there have been other superhero movies that have been more deserving of Best Picture nominations.
In your opinion, do you think Black Panther deserves the…[Read more]
“The Silence of the Lambs” is often credited as being the first (and only) horror film to win Best Picture at the Oscars, but I have ready a lot of people who are adamant it is a psychological thriller, but not a horror film.
What do you think? Do you consider “The Silence of the Lambs” a horror movie?
So far, Pixar has released sequels to Toy Story, Cars, Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo and The Incredibles.
Of the films that do not yet have sequels, which film(s) would you be most excited about a potential sequel being made?

Of the last 10 movies made by Walt Disney Animation Studios (so, no Pixar movies), which one do you think is the best?
Daniel B. replied to the topic Daniel Day Lewis is most awarded actor.Does it make all time Best? in the forum Movies 3 months, 3 weeks ago
A lot of Daniel Day-Lewis and Leonardio DiCaprio’s wins are from award institutes that are fairly new (even if they’ve already been around for 10-20 years). If these circuits were around and giving awards since the same time the Oscars started giving out prizes, I’m sure people like Jack Nicholson, Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, etc.…[Read more]
If I had to guess, I would assume that Tom Hanks might have been the frontrunner, considering his Golden Globe win would have been the most high-profile precursor that any of the Best Actor nominees received.
Russell Crowe won the Best Actor Oscar at the 73rd Academy Awards, and he seemed quite surprised when he did.
Going into the ceremony, here’s where the nominees/precursors went:
Bardem – nominated for Golden Globe
Crowe – won Critics Choice; nominated for Golden Globe, BAFTA & SAG
Hanks – won Golden Globe; nominated for BAFTA & SAG
Harris – no…[Read more]
I think the snub bodes very well for her in the future. The category is packed with Game of Thrones actresses who won’t be there the next time Seehorn is eligible. Plus, the Emmys have a history of nominating people AFTER they should have (case in point: Michael McKean for Guest Actor after snubbing him for Supporting Actor).
Don’t get me…[Read more]

Law & Order did win.
Daniel B. replied to the topic Comedy Series Emmy Winners – Which shows are you most surprised only won once? in the forum Television 4 months, 2 weeks ago
The Emmys are pretty peculiar.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus won 6 acting Emmys for Veep, 1 for New Adventures of Christine, and 1 for Seinfeld. For Series wins, Veep has 3 and Seinfeld has 1.
Tony Hale has 2 wins and 5 nominations for Veep, and was never nominated for Arrested Development. Also, 3 Series wins for Veep, 1 for Arrested Development.

I agree that there aren’t too many surprises on the list, especially compared to the comedy list, which in my opinion, is full of surprises.
