Frame this comment and hang it in the Louvre. Once again, critics get fixated on the Oscar race instead of supporting a contender like Youn who could benefit from it. I hope doesn’t get the Zhao Shuzhen treatment (who was also, by far, the best of her year).

I have to agree – I wasn’t sold on Burstyn’s big moment. She was much better in the more subtle scenes. I did not feel she communicated the true horror of that monologue well.
Kirby, however, was excellent and stole that scene from her. And the whole arc of her character was just wonderful. And the movie took me by surprise in a way that it…[Read more]

I get the Colman-Winslet comparison but I don’t see it. It’s not really that baity of a role and Colman’s won three Globes in four years. Winslet had a sort of comeback with that part and people wanted to see her take pictures with Leo backstage. And although I am not a fan, Seyfried has a clearer path to a win. And let’s face it, IF Glenn gets…[Read more]

I have a hard time believing that Bakalova will make it in, but this feels like such an empty year for this category that she might just do it. But in reality, she belongs to Lead Actress.
And the same is true about Colman. She is literally missing from two scenes of the movie and at times, I felt like she had more screentime than Hopkins. I…[Read more]

Goodness, this was an ordeal. Waaaaay to long (about 40 minutes). And why the fuck did they need Nicole Kidman playing fourth fiddle to some polyanna youngsters and James Corden?
[SPOILERS AHEAD]
James Corden is as annoying as one would expect, but once again, I feel critics were ready to gun for him. He did his best with the deeper parts of the…[Read more] -

Imagine being this pressed about any person you don’t know, either Glenn or Me. At least I am happy being delusional. And even happier I was able to piss you off, which I fully intended to.

I don’t think Colman is winning a second nor that Mahershala is a good comparison. He was in the Best Picture front-runner, also, he missed the Globe and Bafta when he won the first time, so he had extra goodwill there no matter how thirsty Richard E. Grant was, kissing every baby and thanking even the South St. Olaf Film Critics.
Amanda…[Read more]

First of all, thank you for calling it viral. It was my tweet.
I do feel, in a way, dreadfully guilty for not providing enough context. But also, as a great fan of the Ms. Close’s, I am really proud that, at least for the date of the movie’s premiere, she got a break from crazy movie twitter coming at her. I have long been appalled at the…[Read more]

The HFPA, for sure. And trust me, they know the Oscar narrative – netflix will spare no expense or time to have Glenn suck up to them, even if it’s over zoom or whatever. And it’s the HFPA that starts the ball rolling in Supporting (case in point: Allison Janney) – everybody else seems to follow suit. The last time when it wasn’t the case was…[Read more]

The funny thing is that your argument against Glenn is that she got a movie Globe 2 years ago. Which is true about Colman as well – not only that, she has won Globes for three consecutive years, INCLUDING a movie Golden Globe 2 years ago, while she also has The Crown to win another one this year (she has every chance, because let’s be honest if…[Read more]

I don’t think it needs further explaining about Glenn Close. At this point, I just don’t see why people can’t leave this poor woman alone and enjoy her bone she’s going to be thrown in Supporting. Some people are just downright cruel. I really don’t quite understand how some people can deliberately wish ill for a person they don’t even f-ing…[Read more]

I never don’t post here – but why would Glenn suddenly be changed to Leading when the trailer clearly features Amy before her and if you check the titles in the end, it’s actually only Amy’s name before the Hillbilly Elegy title. And excuse me, I have heard so many contradictory “intels” about that movie and feedback from “reliable friends” that I…[Read more]

Agreed. I think/hope that after this year’s travesty she will win for any decent performance. I think Hillbilly Elegy is her best shot at the gold. It has a great director and crew and it’s based on an acclaimed novel. There is, of course, controversy but I believe it’s her best shot though this Mila Kunis movie seems to be a great alternative.…[Read more]
