I believe that’s what is happening. I saw a behind the scenes pic that Lena posted of Lena and Nikolaj with dots over her face, and both with skull caps on – I think that’s what they do when CGI is going to alter their images. Presumably, being flatted by a collapsing castle left them both a bit facially mangled!
Appearing as a corpse in…[Read more]
A film packed to the gills with spectacular performances, most notably Dame Maggie Smith, Dame Kirsten Scott-Thomas, Dame Helen Mirren, and Dame Eileen Atkins (what’s the collective noun for a group of dames?!). Then there was a scene chewing performance from Michael Gambon, Clive Owen just being amazing at every turn, and even the smaller roles…[Read more]
I’m willing to bet there’ll be a ‘proper’ soundtrack album released, but they decided the track titles were far too spoilery to be released prior, or even during, this season’s run. So this album is the ‘compromise’ (although the music is far too good just to be a lesser choice than a soundtrack)! Jenny of Oldstones, being a piece of music used…[Read more]
It seems that this album has been specifically labelled ‘music inspired by…’ rather than the soundtrack to the season. It’s more akin to the 2 mixtapes they released a few years ago. I doubt almost any of this music will find its way onto the episodes themselves. If I remember correctly, there were some GOT episodes that ended with modern…[Read more]
Oh, for sure. she’s not ending up victorious, but Lena is going to chew scenery whilst she goes down, I’m certain – and I’m totally here for it! Already, she’s proved she is by far the strongest actor in the cast, with what she got in just one episode (and they were running a lot of storylines in the premier, so she had relatively little time to…[Read more]
Basically, it is! BAFTA have proven, year after year, that they have a deep distaste for rewarding the shows that become too ‘mainstream’, and far prefer to reward the lesser known. There’s always the odd exception, but really, the minute Madden won the Globe, his chances for a BAFTA nod slid down massively.
On the other hand, the sole audience…[Read more]

Whilst I don’t think dividing categories in this way would work, you have to look at why we have Daytime Emmy’s as well as Primetime ones. There has been, almost as long as the ‘main’ Emmy’s have existed, a way of recognising the TV output that’s geared to an entirely different audience than the primetime ones. This may well be the same principle…[Read more]
I heard the main theme from Dances With Wolves (John Barry) again the other day, and got chills listening to it. It’s just a brilliant, majestic piece of music. Another vote from me for the Atonement score, love that one! A score that got entirely overlooked by any awards when it was released was Ilan Eshkeri’s score for Stardust. I really…[Read more]
That’s the only explanation that makes sense, really. Otherwise, they would simply award the BAFTA to whichever other film had won, and nothing would be said of his nomination, other than to maybe retrospectively withdraw it after any allegation has been proven or he’s been charged etc. If BR has won, they don’t want his name to appear a…[Read more]
Matthew MacFadyen and Kieran Culkin in Succession are both pretty strong contenders for nominations, IMO. Both have recently gotten in that category – Culkin at the Globes and MacFadyen at Critics Choice, so it’ll be interesting to see if the show/network favours one over the other come next awards season.
Maybe Evan Peters for Pose, if Billy…[Read more]
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Vanity Fair cropping up in best drama – it’s almost the only ‘proper’ period drama this past year, and BAFTAs will usually try and find a spot for at least one ITV drama. Butterfly, with just 3 episodes, will sit within the ‘miniseries’ category, as will Collateral and Kiri (4 episodes each), I believe.
In that case, it’s a near certainty that it wins best international programme! I suspect Oh would have struggled to make the shortlist for best actress anyway – more likely Comer would have been shortlisted, given she’s British and a previous nominee. The BAFTAs are weirdly snobbish about nominating anyone other than British/Irish actors in the…[Read more]
His acceptance speeches from the Emmys and Globes were lovely, heartfelt, personal and really effective, so I’m sure his personality hasn’t drastically changed between then and now – he seems a remarkably well-liked person in the acting community. I wonder if he didn’t want to just repeat the ‘thanks to my agent, parents, and Ryan Murphy…’…[Read more]

Drama Female actor: Maggie Gyllenhall – The Deuce; Mandy Moore – This Is Us
Drama Male actor: J K Simmons – Counterpart; Stephen James – Homecoming
Comedy Male Actor: Donald Glover – Atlanta; Ted Danson – The Good Place

They’ve snubbed Ryan Murphy before, although nominated for Glee, The People v OJ and The Normal Heart, he has never won, nor has any other director nominated for his shows. Versace deserved at least a nomination, but they decided to nominate the almost universally ignored Paterno, just because of the name attached, as far as I can see. It…[Read more]
The Globes love being a bit contrary and out there, which is why I’ve picked a few choices that would potentially be the ‘never saw that coming’ result of this year! Pose and Billy Porter are my long shot picks – screw my score, I’m at peace with the likely awfulness of the total, I’d rather take a chance on a long shot and be wrong, than go…[Read more]
Versace got the most nominations out of any TV show – 4 – so I’m not sure that gets classified as ‘what was expected from them and nothing more’! I agree the competition in both the best limited actor and limited series categories is between Versace and A Very English Scandal, but I have to think that Criss is more likely to win his category, he…[Read more]

You can probably also add ‘Neutral Janet’ to that! There’s also the genius of Eleanor-as-Jason-Janet, and Jason-as-Eleanor-Janet, both of which were clearly defined separate characters! One actress, 8 characters in a single episode, IMO there’s no one else anywhere near her for the Best Supporting Comedy Actress awards next year!
