February 7, 2022 at 5:17 pm #1204783680SAG voting timeline is also around that time, from Dec. 6 to Jan. 9, when the HoG buzz peaked. I agree it’s not safe to say the movie’s buzz decline in late January, we just won’t know what’s going on within the Ampas circle. There is very little info given other than pundits who have industry connection and insiders.
Okay, but when those same pundits make horrible suggestions saying people like Halle Berry and Rachel Zegler will make SAG over Lady Gaga, it’s hard to take them seriously lol. In my opinion, it really seems like the pundits are trying their best to dismiss Gaga’s chances hoping it will sway voters to say “well, guess I won’t vote for her then” only for it blow up in their faces at literally every ceremony so far.
February 6, 2022 at 3:27 pm #1204780536I’m not taking a stance as to whether or not Cumberbatch or Smith was the other Top 2 pick, but there’s no way people actually believe Leo was a Jury Pick right? Leo in Don’t Look Up is about as opposite a Jury’s taste as humanly possible.
February 6, 2022 at 1:00 pm #1204780128Crazy how Kidman is consider a frontrunner, but she’s below everyone else on the Metacritic scorecard (actually not even listed). When was the last time a frontrunner missed critic mentions? Her situation would be the reverse of Kristen Stewart’s.
I’ve always compared Kidman to Sandra Bullock if she wins. Bullock won literally 0 critics awards the entire season, but the Industry chose her over Mulligan and Sidibe
February 6, 2022 at 12:17 pm #1204779972Why are we suddenly trying to negate the Colman BAFTA snub? They literally had a top 2 system set in place to prevent any jaw dropping snubs they wouldn’t approve, and Colman still couldn’t get nominated. I think she and her film are suffering from similar issues as Spencer and Stewart, where it’s just not Industry appealing (it even has a worse Audience score then Spencer, 40 something percent). Colman’s path died with the BAFTA and AACTA snubs, both places she should have easily been able to make.
February 5, 2022 at 12:06 pm #1204776991Right now I’m at:
1. Lady Gaga (Win Competitive)
2. Nicole Kidman (Win Competitive)
3. Alana Haim (Solid, but not win competitive)
4. Jessica Chastain (Fighting for Nomination)
5. Olivia Colman (Fighting for Nomination)
Closest in Line:
6. Kristen Stewart
7. Jennifer Hudson
8. Rachel Zegler
9. Penelope Cruz
10. Emilia Jones
February 1, 2022 at 9:18 am #1204763633Y’all…
Parasite literally received a massive mainstream push when they got a standing ovation in one of the most well received and excited for SAG Ensemble victories of all time. It literally became like a whole cultural moment and is arguably what propelled Parasite to its momentum and glory.
And with all of that hype, Song Kang-Ho still could not get squeezed into a significantly more open Supporting Actor lineup despite “everyone” wanting him to. Celebrities on Twitter saying Penelope Cruz is really good is not gonna get her nominated.
January 26, 2022 at 2:43 pm #1204751758To be quite honest, as long as it’s in a movie with Joaquin’s Joker and is presumably as serious as the first one, I could easily see Lady Gaga winning for Harley Quinn lol, again, given the tone and nature of the film.
January 23, 2022 at 8:04 pm #1204745976All this drama only for the Oscar 5 to be the Globes Drama 5. In the slime chance there is a snub, I think Stewart would be the victim.
January 23, 2022 at 3:06 pm #1204745637If Stewart gets the BAFTA nomination, it will be obvious that the consensus 5 (Kidman, Gaga, Colman, Chastain, Stewart) will likely be the Oscar top 5. And it will make things even harder for someone else to sneak in.
Couldn’t agree more! Sometimes people just overthink stuff and try to call a surprise that’ll never happen. Im just gonna go with the Globes Drama 5.
January 22, 2022 at 11:41 pm #1204744712I adore Olivia Colman, and I do think she was amazing in The Lost Daughter. BUT I would personally prefer her not to win because, this may be an unpopular opinion, a lot of her acting in it just felt like scenes being copied and pasted from Ths Favourite and The Father. Again, I want to say she’s a great actress, and a nomination for The Lost Daughter, I’d more than support. But she pretty much just does the same stuff she usually does for the first 2/3 of the movie. Here entire Movie Theatre scene pretty much felt like her Dramatic Ballroom Scene from The Favourite without all the costumes. She definitely can win, I don’t think she will because she missed AACTA however, but I do prefer she wins her 2nd Oscar for a genuinely different performance in her career.
January 21, 2022 at 9:18 am #1204741993I also hate the Nicole Kidman slander rn. People are acting like she’s Meryl Streep with 20+ nominations, when she’s not lol. Kidman only has 4 Oscar nominations and 1 win. Genuinely the only times the Academy choose to recognize her are when she’s doing Oscarbait. It’s not her fault the Academy ignores more of her Film Twitter friendly performances.
January 21, 2022 at 9:07 am #1204741974The mental gymnastics people are doing to try to justify Stewart still being strong really is astounding. Her film isn’t just underperforming, it’s floundering. Her inability to win a single Trifecta award or NBR should have been a significant red flag, and her film somehow managed to do even worse with Critics Choice nominations than Jackie did. The genuinely only thing Stewart has going for her are regional Critics Wins, and Film Twitter hype. Even amongst the period divided Guild Technical awards, Spencer is still being shut out. This film has zero Industry support, and that should be blatantly obvious.
January 20, 2022 at 10:25 am #1204740334I just wanted to say that yeah, I agree LFCC is being overhyped lol, by a bit. Every single Actress in contention has some Stat going for or against her. Colman inexplicably missed AACTA, but literally no one is mentioning that lol. Stewart missed SAG, Chastain missed AACTA and LFCC, Gaga and Kidman missed LFCC, but saying missing LFCC is what kills someone like Gaga is redundant imo, because someone could then just say she won a Trifecta and Iowa which correctly matched for the last 3 years lol.
People will just choose whatever stats and rules they wanna follow that benefits their fave, even if subconsciously lol. For me personally, I just choose to follow whatever has shown genuine correlation to the Oscars in at least some capacity in MULTIPLE categories, which ofc includes GG, CC, SAG, BAFTA, occasionally AACTA, and occasionally the Trifecta awards.
January 20, 2022 at 5:19 am #1204739850Okay, I know we have the whole top 2 situation going on with BAFTAs, but I still think it truly is idiotic to call anyone a lock for a nomination lol. Did y’all learn nothing from last year? We have no idea who would have even won between Mulligan and McDormand if Mulligan was nominated, and I’m about 95% certain that no one would have thought Maria Bakalova gets a BAFTA nomination over Olivia Colman lol. We have no idea what they’re gonna do. Everyone saying “Oh, Colman/Stewart will just easily pick up the BAFTA, then Oscar, no questions asked” is just giving me so many Carey Mulligan vibes from last year lol.
