The way I was wrong, thank god!
February 5, 2023 at 7:03 pm #1205291041Maybe Beyonce does know she didn’t win any more awards. I remember an article coming out saying that the placement of Renaissance in the Dance/Electronic category was debated by the Dance committee while Break My Soul was not. So maybe she didn’t have enough votes to win, if it is true that she’s not winning anymore. In that case, that’s so unfortunate cause she’ll miss beating the record too.
February 5, 2023 at 4:42 pm #1205289552I do hope All Too Well takes Song of the Year, it would be such a worthy choice and such a nice winner! And Taylor hasn’t won. I’m hoping that since they didn’t air her win for Music Video that it means she won Song of the Year. Cause like the Grammys do chose categories based off of the winners we know that. But maybe not this time, who knows. I’m excited to find out. I’m excited to see who takes Album of the Year, again it would be fun to see Beyonce take this award, as deserving it many times before. I would actually like 30 as a winner, it’s my favorite of Adele’s album’s but I understand she’s already won so many times. I hope all 3 get another award or two somewhere
February 3, 2023 at 11:05 pm #1205283263I’m still going to be predicting Naatu Naatu, however, I am still weary of an upset. Solely because it’s the only nomination for the film. I know films have won this category being a lone nominee before but usually it’s still for a film that was contending for other categories before being snubbed or has gotten nominations/wins for things at other awards shows. RRR kind of didn’t do that after the critics awards unfortunately. So while, I think Naatu Naatu is still going to win, I wouldn’t be surprised if there is an upset considering there are 2 films here that are Best Picture nominees and another that’s contending for an acting win. Everyone always says they just choose the most popular film in this category.
ReplyJanuary 24, 2023 at 7:05 am #1205262281I love that Mitski got nominated but also, how did she get this nomination before she has even gotten a Grammy nomination. The Grammys should be embarrassed
ReplyJanuary 24, 2023 at 6:28 am #1205261846Here’s the thing, while women of color are in total offered less desirable roles than white women are, this year saw many women of color contenders for Best Actress. And most times that’s the case, they snub most of them and only nominate one. Take a look at 2019 for example, you had Lupita, Awkwafina and Cynthia Erivo contending and only 1 made it and it was considered to be the final spot with 4 other white women. It’s tiring to see women of color constantly not being given deserving roles yes, but even when they are given deserving roles and give those fantastic performances, they are snubbed.
January 24, 2023 at 6:16 am #1205261645One thing the Academy is going to do is fawn over their white actresses and leave women of color in the dust.
January 20, 2023 at 4:45 pm #1205255566Kerry Condon gives me Kodi Smit-McPhee vibes in the sense that everyone thought they were winning due to Critics stuff but someone else (Kotsur/Bassett) take it once the actually televised awards begin and then they lose steam. It’s possible to regain the steam tho, but right now it’s Bassett’s surely.
January 15, 2023 at 7:02 pm #1205246615It makes me so sad to see Yeoh lose this. This is probably a once in a lifetime moment for her while this is going to be Cate’s THIRD. Her whole speech about “can we all stop this?” is so ridiculous when something like this win could mean so much for a woman of color’s career. Like Cate has more Oscars than any woman of color does for Best Actress, insanity. And yes, women of color (Yeoh, Deadwyler) have the Best Performance of the Year.
January 13, 2023 at 3:14 pm #1205241744Ralph Fiennes would totally be a deserving nominee for the Menu! He perfectly captured the messed up mindset but also the comedic tone. I would love for him to get nominated!
January 13, 2023 at 3:08 pm #1205241733I feel like a decent comparison for Michelle Williams is Amanda Seyfried. Where they miss SAG and BAFTA after making Golden Globes and Critics Choice and everyone starts talking about them missing only for them to still get nominated at the Oscars while the film gets a ton of nominations too. Williams will probably still get into Actress.
January 12, 2023 at 10:04 pm #1205240553all quiet has a lot of problems in screenplay:
- weak third act that abandond the ” anti war” main point of the movie
- it already miss golden globes and critic choice screenplay and is inelegible in WGA
- is a remake of a best picture winner
glass onion has their problem too:
- is a sequel notably inferior to the original and the first movie didn’t win screenplay
- very low chances to be nominated in picture
- weak third act with an abrupt change of the tone
- the twists are a rip off of a previous oscar anime from decades ago ( altough i don’t know if they are going to notice this)
Yeah, definitely. That’s what very weird about this category this year. Women Talking feels like the only adapted screenplay that makes sense but it’s also missing easy nominations it should be getting elsewhere.
January 12, 2023 at 7:52 pm #1205240425the thing with women talking is that right now there isn’t a alternative to win best adapted screeplay. See this and laugh: women talking 15 in picture in this prediction but is still predicted as winning screenplay. Even the most haters of the movie had to keep it as winner for adapted screnplay because there’s not a viable alternative right now https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/feinberg-forecast-oscar-predictions-golden-globes-sag-noms-1235298468/
Adapted Screenplay is incredibly weak. I wouldnt be shocked to see an upset from something like All Quiet on the Western Front or even Glass Onion.
Also, it’s so weird that we have like 4 sequels contending for Best Picture nominations, With at least 2 (Top Gun and Avatar) considered to be “locks,” but yet only 1 of those sequels is considered “in” for Adapted Screenplay with Glass Onion.
January 12, 2023 at 7:48 pm #1205240419I’m thrilled Bassett is becoming the front runner, as she’s one of my favorite actresses! And she should have an Oscar at this point. Her performance in Wakanda Forever is genuinely great too! In addition, while Marvel definitely has its issues, it’s really cool to see a performance from this type of film (genre, specifically) get recognized. Not every best performance or craft of the Year comes from an Oscar bait drama (not that I dislike a good Oscar bait drama). Sci-fi, Fantasy, Horror, Action films all gave great cinematic value and should be given that deserved respect.
January 12, 2023 at 7:38 pm #1205240398I’m still predicting Williams here. It wouldn’t make sense for them to move her to supporting when they campaigned her there and she’s gotten Lead nominations at various places. She probably just missed a few votes at SAG.
I’m so glad to see Yeoh finally getting her Oscar glory!! She definitely still could lose to Blanchett but I think the fact that Blanchett already had 2 and EEAAO is a top Best Picture contender, pushes Yeoh over the edge to the win.
