April 9, 2021 at 6:22 pm #1204189086Promising Young Woman is bold and beautiful filmmaking. Emerald Fennell was in her ENTIRE bag with this debut. Carey Mulligan is out of this world with an iconic performance. How she hasn’t been a sweeper I will not know bc she has everything going for her to be one. This audacious commentary on rape culture is once in a generation kind of material and will be remembered for years to come.
ReplyApril 8, 2021 at 12:26 pm #1204186691stupid question: christopher meloni on svu is guest right?
Unless they change the rules again, he won’t be since he’ll be up for lead for OC and an actor playing the same character can’t be submitted twice.
ReplyApril 8, 2021 at 2:02 am #1204185469Page had little precursors support largely because there were no major precursors in the 80s barring the Globes. There were no SAG Awards or Critics Choice awards back then. For all you know Page would have won both of those if they were in operation in the 80s. Page being the runner up for NYFCC and winning Boston suggests she was also supported by critics. Close has lost all precursors. It’s an unfair comparison to make.
And the comparison only works if Hillbilly Elegy were a better received movie.

Riz, Paul, and Olivia are of course fantastic, but I have to say the deaf actors I was more impressed with. That section of the movie I was the most interested in. Glad that this got the recognition and hopefully more stories like this will be told.
ReplyApril 6, 2021 at 9:25 pm #1204183044I know people love to drag him to hell and back, but it would be such a legacy for Lee Daniels to have been involve in two black actresses winning here. You wouldn’t be able to tell me shit! And since we are in the now times that kind of cachet could take him to the next level.
April 6, 2021 at 9:59 am #1204181827Glenn’s stans (like me): she is over for this particular race. Nothing is set in stone, but the times in which actors like Page could prevail at the last time are done. Now, with the precursors system, it’s easy to predict wins and even major upstets – like Colman’s, which was totally not an upset for me. What Glenn Close needs now is a good film role, which I’m sure will arrive: she is building her status as a major, mature movie star over 70 alongside Streep. Sunset Blvd.? Who knows. I am very happy for Youn Yuh-jung!
This part! Glenn’s 8th nomination is not the same as Geraldine’s 8th nomination and it’s intellectually dishonest to say they are comparable.
ReplyApril 6, 2021 at 12:36 am #1204181196Glenn could’ve gotten away with a win if YJ wasn’t nominated in the same category. The narrative of her not having an Oscar pales in comparison to an Black and Asian acting winners lineup.
ReplyApril 5, 2021 at 8:58 pm #1204180959I liked how simple the show was so kudos to the team on that. These wins set the stage for a historic acting winners lineup at the Oscars and I’m ready. What a way to close out an unprecedented awards season.
ReplyApril 5, 2021 at 10:43 am #1204179724Judas and the Black Messiah is electric! From start to finish, it’s a thrilling biopic anchored by the towering performances of Daniel Kaluuya and LaKeith Stanfield. The ensemble is on their level with the younger black cast and Jesse Plemons (who is a future Oscar winner!). The story of Fred Hampton is one I have known of, but not known if that makes sense. A hero and I’m glad his legacy got the cinematic treatment by such a great team.
