Forgive me for being skeptical of having nice things coming from the Oscars when a good 80% of it it’s pure frustration. It seems too good to be true to have queen Bassett as an Oscar winner.
Tell me you don’t follow the Oscars without telling me the Oscar’s. 80% “frustration” is a stretch, unless you have terrible taste in contenders.
January 19, 2023 at 2:18 pm #1205254191It’s been all awards season. It’s very exhausting.
And they do this EVERY awards season. They can’t be objective if their lives depended on it.
December 25, 2022 at 2:37 am #1205209124And FANTASIA for The Color Purple next year!
Fantasia isn’t happening next year, certainly not in Lead. She isn’t an Oscar worthy actress. She couldn’t act in her OWN Lifetime biopic and that was SIXTEEN YEARS ago–her ONLY acting credit prior. She, herself, didn’t want the role, but was convinced (read: forced) by her husband to do it. She’ll forever be known as LaChanze’s replacement on Broadway. Her performance will NOT be on par with nor will it surpass LaChanze’s or Cynthia Erivo’s.
October 16, 2022 at 7:58 pm #1205123313There is documentation of Toni Collette rejecting it due to clashes for a Broadway production.
I’m assuming the aforementioned Broadway production was The Wild Party. It was a musical that earned her a Best Actress (Musical) Tony nomination.
ReplyOctober 16, 2022 at 7:51 pm #1205123310Sylvester Stallone turned down too many great movies and TV series. The List is Too Long: Several Tarantino movies(it seems Stallone hates Tarantino), Friends(Tom Selleck role), he turned down Mister Big role in Sex In The City Franchise, Beverly Hills Cop(Eddie Murphy role), Die Hard(Bruce Willis role) Pretty Woman(Richard Gere role), etc….
What in the he’ll was he thinking? It’s like he didn’t want to succeed as an actor. Self-sabotage at its finest.
ReplyOctober 16, 2022 at 7:43 pm #1205123302I kinda want to call it now~ Danielle Deadwyler is gonna win… I saw “Till” on Sunday and it still has not left me. Her performance is just beyond good. Strong, resilient, heartbreaking …. And that is saying something because Blanchett is pretty astounding in “Tar”… I’m curious about Michelle Williams who I’m sure is absolutely wonderful in “The Fablemans” and is overdue and in the front runner for Picture… However, Deadwyler’s performance is really gonna resonate especially with the Acting branch. Both Blanchett and Yeoh are wonderful, but their films may turn off some voters (too arty, too confusing…. even though they are fantastic especially EEAAO in my opinion)…. “Fablemans” will probably strike the right chord with most everyone, though “Till” will also likely appeal to all viewers. This is an exciting race…. Current thinking: 1. Danielle Deadwyler 2. Michelle Williams 3. Cate Blanchett 4. Michelle Yeoh 5. Viola Davis
ALL 👏🏾 OF 👏🏾 THIS 👏🏾

September 5, 2022 at 3:42 pm #1205069690Last night, Daytime Emmy and three-time Tony winner Nathan Lane won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his role on Only Murders in the Building. It’s his first win of seven acting nods, in both guest acting categories. He is now an Oscar short of completing his Triple Crown. Please add him to the “Have Emmy and Tony but miss Oscar” section. Thank you.
