Michelle Pfeiffer reading that Gold Derby is arguing over Davis and Kirby winning…
Michelle could miss given the campy nature of her film, are people really expecting her to win with a comedy about a middle aged woman who moves to Paris with her son and her talking cat? I’m rooting for her but she might not get the nom.September 28, 2020 at 2:30 pm #1203739766
Someone has to be seriously high to think D5B is gonna be a huge player at this point in the year. It was a contender in July but now that festival season is happening it’s gettin overshadowed by every single movie that comes out. Lindo at this point will be lucky to get a nom. His character will throw a lot off people off, his character being a black trump supporter is gonna hurt him especially given BLM and how much Trump has done wrong the whole year. D5B will get 0 – 1 nom, there’s absolutely not hype for Lindo or the movie at this point. He’ll barely squeak in if he does at all.September 18, 2020 at 8:43 pm #1203717165
So I’m late to the FYC party but Taylor’s fyc sucked, so I decided to make my own. Hope you guys like it.September 15, 2020 at 9:40 pm #1203709300
Lindo wont win in either category, he had a better chance in supporting when the film first started, cause he had the notices. Now Hopkins has placed himself as the frontrunner in the lead category (he’ll also be the only sweep this season I believe) and in supporting we already have Chadwick (and lowkey one of the Mank guys or Yahya could surprise win, Ma Rainey doesn’t feel like the type of film to get two acting wins). And Da 5 Bloods will be a no occur at the Oscar’s sans Lindo, everyone forgot about the movie and the mixed response doesn’t help it. Lindo lost a lot of momentum. Besides the film being released that early really hurt the film. I don’t think Netflix will push Da 5 Bloods too much. Lindo went on to become filler, he has not much passion outside of gd unless he somehow resurrects his momentum which I doubt very much at this point.September 14, 2020 at 8:50 pm #1203707269
Everyone says it’ll be Olivia vs. Glenn this year
But everyone is underestimating this girlie
I know it’s her first oscar role, but Marion Davies relation to the Citizen Kane story is very baity. She could be the contender no one is expecting.September 14, 2020 at 6:43 pm #1203706938
It’s too early to have an Best Actress winner right now but I could see this potential line up:
(Yes I’m predicting Kirby, Netflix is a good distributor I also have 100/1 odds on her so I kinda refuse to take her out now)September 11, 2020 at 9:41 pm #1203700012
Kirby’s distributor can save her movie to compete for 2022, a lot of distributors plates are full, and won’t give her the attention she needs to get a nom let alone a win. They can put her as a priority for the next season, where her distributor can put her and her movie 1st, so they can ensure a nom and even campaign for a win.September 7, 2020 at 10:36 am #1203690968
Hmm the same Vanessa Kirby who has booked various supporting roles in big blockbuster hits like Charlize Theron did pre Monster? Sure Kirby can miss but she could easily very easily win à la Berry and Theron or get nominated like Robbie did along with her big name supporting co-star whilst her film more or less missed everywhere else above the line.
If you think Kirby is about to be on Charlize, Margot, or Halle’s level then you are beyond any stan’s delusion, Charlize swept the awards she was eligible that year, Margot hit every single precursor for Bombshell and Halle won SAG all three of those things are out of reach for Kirby when her movie doesn’t have a distributor and if it gets one as I said she needs to be a priority and most distributors already have priorities.
Also Charlize was barely an established name that didn’t star in blockbusters. She had roles here and there but she didn’t have action film blockbusters like Kirby did post crown. So that comparison is wrong. Also kirby was like 15 minutes in each film so it barely counts as supporting.
Kirby needs a huge campaign, and it’s to early to tell her chances when the film has no distributor. Love her but she’s in hot water.September 6, 2020 at 10:56 pm #1203690411
Listen, I love Kirby. But calling her a lock is delusion at this moment. She would need a huge campaign behind her. I know she got a lot of praise but she needs a distributor that would put her as the main priority. She could very well only be a Venice thing.September 6, 2020 at 7:42 pm #1203690128
I’m not predicting it yet, but Taylor out of AOTY is a possiblity. Her 3rd win would be more controversial than let’s say Harry winning. She’s hurt by the fact that she’s a 2x winner in that category. The album is a success but successful albums have missed too. If BLM hadn’t happened we wouldn’t be discussing a block, this will guide nom the same way it did at the Emmy’s. A lot GF nominees will be black. Taylor winning for a 3rd time when black people feel opressed will hurt both the Grammy’s and her. Taylor has that going against her. The BRP can decide to let her out. I still have the album in but the blocking is in the realm of possibility especially in the climate that the US is currently having.
Also mind snubbing Taylor will not be a controversy the same way her winning is.
If she gets in and wins that could hurt her Grammy’s chances in the coming years.September 4, 2020 at 7:47 pm #1203687105
Clinging to the idea that Taylor is getting blocked is dumb.
At this point I really doubt the BRP will block one if not the biggest album of the year. Folklore even if cardigan flopped has been a success week after week. It was also hailed as a career highlight for Taylor and it’s also her return to form. The album is more in than out.
