Fight Club is not for everyone. I find it excellent but I do think that it’s a movie that is hard to get into that can be tough to follow and the plot is a bit confusing but that’s charm since Norton’s character is the narrator, the critical response at the time proves it. I wouldn’t blame anyone for not liking it, I think is a great film and the book is awesome even if it is hard to read. But to each their own.July 9, 2020 at 10:14 am #1203578083
The casting of this series for Elizabeth and Margaret is a gift that keeps on giving. After the great Imelda Staunton as the former, we now have the great Lesley Manville for the latter. Two of my favorite and best-working thespians in the planet. But wait, I thought Netflix is cancelling their shows to just only 3 to 4 seasons? What could have Peter Morgan done to convince them that a season 6 is worth it? I mean, considering the budget and all that comes with it.
It was always meant to have 6 seasons, but then it was announced that they would only do until 5. So I guess they already had everything ready for 6th season until they called it quits at season 5. The thing is that the longer the show goes the more to present day it gets. So I would assume that Morgan was going to do 5 as the last one since he didn’t want to come closer to recent events. I’d say that’s the reason the show won’t get past 2010.July 8, 2020 at 11:19 am #1203574011
L O L I have a hard enough time imagining the fossils at the Academy awarding or even recognizing another one of Nolan’s “confusing” prestige overblown action manchild films without his ridiculous arrogance involved. His actions are selfish and reckless and laughable. He’s not “saving” cinema.
You really need to let Nolan go
And WB is not releasing Tenet until it’s actually safe to go to the theaters, they won’t risk a movie that big to lose money. I would even argue that it will move one more time, especially since the US is not handling the pandemic very well. Say whatever you like but the industry is banking on Tenet to resurrect movie going after the pandemic is controlled. And if if succeeds I would expect people to remember it coming awards season.July 6, 2020 at 5:47 pm #1203571220
Maybe I’d enjoy Watermelon Sugar if it wasn’t 2 degrees Celsius and we were allowed to go to the beach without fear…
Aussie then. 😂
Columbia is pushing Styles hard this era, I wonder how the campaigning will be around voting lol.
Maybe SNL in some form since New York is the best state at controlling the pandemic. He did NPR too early. Corden is a no brainer since they’re bffs.
As of now for Harry I would expect, Pop Solo, PVA and ROTY. SOTY and AOTY are on the table as well but I would like to see his popularity in November/December.July 5, 2020 at 1:15 pm #1203569225
So I think this is the best thread to post this, but is Kanye really running for president?
Like remember in 2016 when he said it, I always thought it was a fucking joke. But apparently not.
So since I’m not from the US, is he fighting for a nom with the Republican party or he is going independent? Anyway I thought it was a joke back then and now it’s a serious thing. Wtf, this year couldn’t get any weirder.July 5, 2020 at 11:23 am #1203569084
I’m hoping we see a surprise nod for HAIM in BPDG or maybe even BPVA. Although the lack of commercial success makes it very unlikely for them to get in.
They’re not going pop 💀
Most likely alternative and just album, rock song and rock performance are way too crowded for them. They could submit to pop duo but I doubt they get in cause they’re not popular enough.July 2, 2020 at 6:32 pm #1203564230
I feel it’s because of this trend they started with expanding the GF nominees to 8. In the two ceremonies, there have been albums like Dirty Computer and I Used to Know Her that should’ve been at least nominated for UC and R&B Album but for some odd reason weren’t. I don’t think Dirty Computer was so enigmatic to have been snubbed from UC.
It was snubbed to give The Carters the win. They would’ve easily lost to Janelle so the panel passed her. Or at least that’s the most popular belief.July 1, 2020 at 8:39 pm #1203562207
It’s notorious that DiCaprio was in competition with Bale to play Patrick Bateman in American Psycho. He was supposed to do it with Oliver Stone at the helm, but then he turned it down due to creative differences, so Bale took the role and it became his breakthrough. But it’s more like Bale having issues with him or being jealous, it’s not hatred from both sides. I could see instead a DiCaprio-Phoenix collaboration in the future.
It wasn’t creative issues nor a competition, Bale was always Mary Harron’s choice since the beginning even if the studio was looking for someone else (Leo), Bale was always in love with the character and went as far to ask someone to turn down the role when auditions were happening. When the movie was about to start production the studio asked Harron if she could get DiCaprio because he was fresh off titanic’s success. Harron didn’t want DiCaprio so she walked out of the film. They got a new director and DiCaprio, after a few months with DiCaprio on board the budget was way too much, the director had a different idea and DiCaprio was too expensive. Both left the film, after they left Harron was brought back and with that Bale was on it again, budget going back to normal. The were never in a fight over the role, if they had beef over that movie it was because the studio didn’t want Bale.
As far as best actor, ofcourse it is Day-Lewis but he was barely in 2 movies this decade, so he doesn’t count. And well all Phoenix, Bale and DiCaprio did great. So in order it would be Phoenix, DiCaprio and Bale. Honorable mentions: Bradley Cooper and Adam Driver.July 1, 2020 at 4:22 pm #1203561752
Honey, for those who want Fiona Apple to win Album of the Year. Y’all do NOT have a problem with three white women winning in a row? #NoDiversity
Honey, stop being delusional. Fiona Apple did NOT release the best album of 2020. I don’t give a shit about its Metacritic score. Kacey Musgraves wasn’t the best either. Billie Eilish is debatable.
You don’t get to say shit about Billie. You were rooting for her the whole damn season and only changed your mind after the sweep.
Also I would like to see what you’re predicting since you only seem to discredit every artist that’s been mentioned.July 1, 2020 at 11:44 am #1203561009
Aaron Sorkin’s The trial of the Chicago seven is now officially purchased by Netflix from Paramount. It should be a big awards season contender and Netflix now has too many BP contenders in its hands; Mank, The trial of the Chicago seven, hillbilly Elegy, Da 5 bloods, I’m thinking of ending things, Ma rainey’s black bottom…
Same problem as last year, two or three are gonna get lost in the shuffle or won’t make it to awards season.
Their problem is that they think that with more movies they’re gonna have a better chance at a picture win but they don’t know how to prioritize and campaign all movies. Some get lost in the shuffle and then comes a studio with a one strong movie campaign and wins picture.
Also being a streaming platform doesn’t help.June 29, 2020 at 10:04 am #1203557088
Y’all predicting Harry now because it obvious he is getting and the dark horse in the pop categories but were laughing at the ones who have been predicting him for months:June 28, 2020 at 11:18 pm #1203556501
Winslet has chased after that second Oscar for forever but has failed everytime. Ammonite feels like a cheap Portrait of a Lady on Fire. I don’t think she’s winning a second when there’s no narrative for her to win. Besides this year seems to have overdue actresses that deserve to win more than her getting a second even Davis should be getting a second over her.
And for the record Sean Penn won his second because of Mickey Rourke’s unpredictability for the speech he could give, Penn had a more friendly role and face at the time. It was robbery at it’s finest.June 28, 2020 at 11:00 pm #1203556483
After Laughter is my favourite one because I can really relate to the songs and came out in the moment I needed it. It has a special place in my heart and top 5 albums of all time.
I’ve always loved them since they pretty much became the soundtrack to some years of my life so I love them. Although I will have to go the Hayley Williams route and say that I enjoy now more and are my favourite and best albums their last 2 since the angst that carries their first albums isn’t in me anymore. Not to say I don’t enjoy their first albums but that time of my life is over. Although from time to time I like to listen to them.
Also I find it hilarious that Hayley hates Brand New Eyes and The Only Exception when it’s most people’s favourite.June 28, 2020 at 10:17 pm #1203556440
Does Heather or any heartbreak song by Conan Gray count? Because I’m sure 80% of them are about the same boy. And if they don’t then The Story.
Channel and Forrest Gump by Frank Ocean
Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America – The 1975
Bad at Love and Strangers – Halsey because bisexuals also deserve to be validated.
Pretty much everything Hayley Kiyoko. What I Need and Curious slap.
I Want to Break Free, Don’t Stop Me Now – Queen, because Freddy Mercury.
Diplomat’s Son – Vampire Weekend, the actual description of the song by them is “a six minute dance hall song about a gay relationship” and I think that’s beautiful. It’s kind of an acquired taste since the production is a bit hard to get into.
Michael – Franz Ferdinand because bisexuals 🤷🏼♂️ also he’s probably the most violent bisexual person I’ve ever seen, I’ve yet to find the interview about him saying he’s bisexual tho, but the fanbase says he is so either everyone is collectively hallucinating or it disappeared form the internet.
People also say Hand in Glove by The Smiths but I’m still unsure on that one. Morrisey has always been very ambiguous about his sexuality. But who knows. And I would recommend to check some of their albums since fans say if you read between the lines many songs tend to be about gay endeavors, There’s a Light That Never Goes Out is a good one to start with the detective skills.
I saw once on reddit someone say Mann Gegen Mann by Rammstein and I had to look it up. My German is a bit rusty since I haven’t spoken it since I graduated high school, but yeah it’s about the view of gay man and criticizes homophobia to some extent. And the video pretty much gives the theme away. Also it’s said that the inspiration behind the song came to Christoph after he had to go to every gay bar in Berlin because he lost a bet to a friend.
I would like to say Rebel Rebel by Bowie the jury is still out on that one tho but people say Starman is also an anthem because it came out because of Bowie’s flamboyant image and parents were afraid kids would take on that. But I don’t know, everyone has it’s own interpretation of Bowie’s songs.
Lola – The Kinks which talks about a trans woman.
Queen- Perfume Genius, also a lot of his discography so check it out.
Closer – Tegan and Sara (Lesbian rights!)
Walk on the Wild Side is about the NY queer scene also Bowie produced.
Isn’t I Will Survive also a gay anthem? So that too.
Go West by Village people is also supposed to be about the queer community so I guess it counts, also the video is very gay.
Elton’s Song by no other than Elton John, the song doesn’t use pronouns but it’s pretty obvious I’d say.
Medicine is an unreleased track by Mr Harry Styles and I don’t know care what anyone says but that’s his coming out song. Also the second verse is pretty straightforward.
The Danna Paola song about discovering her boyfriend is gay, that one too. Sodio I think it is.
It’s Raining Men is something I always see that’s played around this time.
Vogue by Madonna, the video is fun.
Pansy Division always sung about them being gay, so extra points. Check them out if you’re into punk/rock, Fem in a Black Leather Jacket is a nice one to start.
Dancing on My Own seems a recurrent one in the queer spectrum so another one for the lgbtq+ bingo card.
Pablo Alboran just came out as gay so I guess his songs count. They’re pretty gender neutral but some of the lyrics make more sense or take other meanings since he just confirmed his sexuality.
Girls/Girls/Boys by P!ATD is about a threesome so… sexy tho. Brendon is naked in the video so points for that.
Masseduction by St. Vincent no explanations needed.
The 1-800 song by Logic but mostly the video.
Universal Love – Wedding Songs Reimagined is a collab project which has Bob Dylan, Kesha and St. Vincent reimagining songs to adjust the pronouns depending on who sings it.
Hozier’s Take Me to Church is great too, I like his voice and the video is pretty good at portraying what the song is about.
And those are some songs and projects I like, also the 70s were very gay apparently.
