FN era is bigger than Folklore era…
Also what era for folklore? sis dropped the album and disappeared for 4 months until she came back for evermore. there is no folklore era, it had one promo/lead single, 1 awards performance and 1 disney special released months later – that’s it. on the other hand dua was appearing on every single late night and day time talk show, hosting even, performing on every awards show and basically the strongest promo campaign for months on end with incredible playlisting and radio deals. regardless of this all, the award is for album of the year not era of the year clown x
ReplyFebruary 24, 2021 at 3:28 pm #1204059593Her album and SINGLES making noise all over the world, something that a certain artist has not achieved since 2014. Without a doubt for the rest of the world and for me it would be perfect and indisputable to see her win.
Please give a disclaimer warning before you start chatting the dumbest shit. i know you’re not suggesting that dua lipa is a bigger global star than taylor fking swift lmao. i’m not even gonna engage in your delusional points.

ReplyFebruary 23, 2021 at 4:53 pm #1204057675Swift’s life has been so publicised that I almost never believe anything she does isn’t a publicity stunt, especially always playing the “it’s me against the world” card.
lmfaoooo are u joking?? her life has been so publicised because she became one of the biggest artists of our time at the age of eighteen. Of course everything she does is going to get publicised. She’s literally become one of the most private celebrities of our times for almost 5 years now. she lives a quiet life away from the spotlight and comes out every now and then to release music with a little bit of prom, then goes back into hiding. if u think an artist of her calibre requires “publicity stunts”, especially at this point in her career you are delusional.
ReplyFebruary 23, 2021 at 1:43 pm #1204057314Because Taylor had no chance at anything.
yeah that’s exactly my point. the person i quoted is insinuating that the chronicle article is being written by a swiftie bc they predict taylor to win. I’m saying they’re clearly not or else they would’ve predicted her to win something last year despite having a chance or not, thats what a “swiftie” would do so what’s your point? we all know she wasn’t the frontrunner to win anything last year. no shit. the article predicting taylor to win this year doesn’t mean they’re a swiftie when she IS the frontrunner this year, i’m just pointing that out.

clearly not cuz they didn’t predict taylor to win any of her nominations last year. they predicted 7/9 of the winners correct last year. they were much more accurate than pitchfork and billboard.
ReplyFebruary 23, 2021 at 7:59 am #1204056417Ok so i did a bit of research and i know people are waiting for pitchfork’s predictions on the winners and let me just point out an interesting fact:
Last year, out of the 9 categories they predicted they only got 4 right. In comparison, The Chronicle predicted 7 out of 9 correctly.
ReplyFebruary 23, 2021 at 6:39 am #1204056199I am starting to see an scenario where Megan and Taylor split the the general field tbh. I know voting based on genre is so important to you guys but honestly I still see Savage taking Record of the Year! Dua could possibly walk home empty handed similar to the way Ariana did last year. Idk maybe it’s just these new Grammy commercials with Taylor and Megan getting to me 🤷
if megan and taylor both get 2 gf awards each that would be a dream for me wow.
ReplyFebruary 23, 2021 at 6:18 am #1204056162This year is a bit weird because when you take after hours out of the equation which we all would have thought would sweep…the leading contenders folklore and fn are not very strong based on how many nominations the albums got. But if I were to predict based on past years it would be a gf sweep for dua. I think duas album is comparable to 24k magic( his album was bigger but not worth a sweep, had much lesser critical acclaim than fn and he like dua campaigned like crazy) and dua can be compared to adele in terms of both being Brits so uk voters will support.

no way did u just say future nostalgia is comparable to 24k magic 😭😭😭. 24k magic was the #2 best selling album of 2017 on the official billboard charts whilst future nostalgia didn’t even make it in the top 30. future nostalgia has don’t start now but 24k magic had a lot more going than dua, the album as a whole was more consumed by the us that year. future nostalgia is not this massive pop record that compares to previous smash hits. it has more critical acclaim than any pop record in recent years for sure but the album didn’t have nowhere near as much impact on the us as some ppl are making it out to be. also bruno’s history with the grammys etc. he was literally the closest thing to a grammy darling in the men’s side.
ReplyFebruary 23, 2021 at 6:10 am #1204056135guys here’s a new article on predictions for who will win/who should win with great explanations as to why they decided on them. definitely worth a read.
ReplyFebruary 23, 2021 at 4:43 am #1204056055i think there’s definitely enough reason to warrant the belief that dua has the potential to upset on AOTY considering she’s the only one this year to tick all the general field nominations and all 3 pop nominations. however, the argument that future nostalgia defined 2020 is not as strong as ppl are making it out to be. although yes it did produce hits in the us – don’t start now – is it’s biggest strength. i’d defo be on board to say that song defined 2020 bc it was EVERYWHERE. it’s an organic smash hit, a modern disco pop banger that is universally loved. i honestly think that is her biggest chance of sweeping. i think that song could win all three: pop solo, soty and roty. i just think it’s too strong.
in terms of AOTY i just don’t see it beating folklore, i really don’t. it could be the upset for sure, it’s impossible to know whose going to win 100% but the strength of folklore is the album. the closest AOTY nominee that folklore reminds me of is golden hour in 2018. that album was carried on the strength of it as an ALBUM. despite having no hit singles, even in the country charts golden hour was loved as an album by the music industry. folklore has that same appeal.
ReplyFebruary 22, 2021 at 4:36 pm #1204055254Folklore for AOTY but damn, HAIM’s album is just simple pleasure. I LOVE that they’re collabing and wouldn’t OPPOSE a collab album… Plus WIMPtIII has reaaaaallly good bonus tracks I am really enjoying
i have the gasoline and 3 am remixes both on repeat. absolute masterpieces and the whole album is so ethereal and charming.
ReplyFebruary 22, 2021 at 5:52 am #1204054119anyways, we are only 20 days left till the ceremony! they’re going to start announcing the performers and presenters soon. i really hope these forums become more lively again. it’s been so long but the wait is almost finally over. i’m excited.
ReplyFebruary 22, 2021 at 5:45 am #1204054108Well, so let’s wait for March 14. Do not put your expectations so high! Swift is not winning AOTY again. I’m here in this forum for a while and every year people overhype her.
“every year people overhype her”.
This is so not true lmao. I’ve been reading goldderby forums every year since 2017 and this is literally the first time she’s been pegged as the frontrunner to win any of her categories. in 2018 – sweetener had the slight edge over reputation and was predicted the most. last year, billie was the undeniable frontrunner for her categories with lizzo closely behind. even this year a lot of people were split on whether or not she would even get nominated for aoty bc of the three wins possibility.
This is the first time since 1989 where taylor has managed to get nominated across all three pop categories. plus with soty + aoty noms and her first album to have UNIVERSAL acclaim it makes sense that she is the frontrunner this year. i’d actually even go on to say folklore is one of the strongest frontrunners we’ve had for aoty in the past decade or so especially because of how weak the other nominees are in comparison.
HOWEVER, this doesn’t mean she’s guaranteed a win. The Grammys are not easy to predict and she isn’t by any means a 100% lock to win. She is just the frontrunner as every year has one.
