No, that’s a copout. Blanchett and Bates both know their own skillsets and how to apply them in an engaging manner, but performing is a whole different ballgame as opposed to analyzing someone else’s performance. Methods and processes in acting may be easier to employ when doing it yourself, but harder to detect when watching another actor.
What a bunch of absolute horseshit.
Keep telling yourself that you and other self appointed anonim internet experts know more about acting and are better qualified to evaluate acting performances than Academy Award winning actresses.
I suppose in the same vein as overweight redneck watching football every Sunday is better qualified to evaluate football players than Tom Brady, after all Tom only plays football.
What a morons are organizers of Venice Film Festival, they made Cate Blanchett the head of jury, when she clearly has no qualification, not instead much more qualified people like users of Gold derby forum, like Bitch or Blanche. Amators.
I mean everybody likes good laugh every once in a while, but God, there has to be some limits of delusion.
Talk about being completely detached from reality. LmaoMarch 28, 2020 at 11:56 am #1203398457
I very much like the guy but it’s clear as a day Bale also is pretty hungry for that leading Oscar.
If you look at his filmography from the last couple of years almost all his projects are more or less successful Oscar baits.March 27, 2020 at 6:46 am #1203396702
Even Joaquin Phoenix this year underneath he wanted it pretty badly. You don’t lose 52 pounds for nothing, just for the sake of it.
Yeah, of course, if you are really desperate for an Oscar you make comic book movie, with Hangover director on top of that. Perfect Oscar bait. Everybody knows how Academy loves those movies and how often actors win and are nominated for those roles.
Give me a break
Not every role where you have to gain or loose weight is taken for the sake of Oscars.
Chances that it would end how it ended were pretty slim.
I know it can be shocking for some on this forum but there are diffrent factors to take roles, especially that kind of, like idk first and foremost money lol.February 26, 2020 at 7:29 am #1203361035

To people who whine about lists, you know that if you would put someone in you you would also have to pull someone else out, right? So I would want to hear from people crying about omision of certain names to also name who they are kicking out.
I know that like 50 diffent people according to various user deserves to be on the each one of lists but it’s impossible lol.February 26, 2020 at 3:34 am #1203360823
David O. Russell is really quick with postproduction of his movies. American Hustle wrapped up in May and was ready for December.
Yeah but this film starts production only in April so add to this 3 months and it becomes much bigger task.
As to Nightmare Alley it ends filming at beginning of May. But it’s still to late imo. Guillermo has ususaly much longer post production on his films.
Either way even if they would both finish in time it would be still very late in the year release. They would miss all festival circus. When was last time movie debuting that late in year won big at Oscars? It was Clint years ago.
So is it even worth it?February 13, 2020 at 2:32 pm #1203345951
They changed their campaign focus last minute from The Farewell to Uncut Games couse of critics reaction yo the latter. Extreme naivety, it’s not Academy’s cup of tea by a mile.
They burried Farewell chances in the procces.February 5, 2020 at 3:04 pm #1203331750
Lol with descriptions in this Entertainment Weekly article it’s not impossible to guess who they might be, weird that they aren’t more vague.February 1, 2020 at 4:05 am #1203323400

No, there is a reason why 29 years old is the youngest winner ever.
I don’t think it’s conscious, more like subconscious thing but Academy loves to see young beautiful starlet actresses on the stage with Oscar, it’s great picture, but not so much with young actors. They will always go with veteran over some teen heartthrob.
And don’t get me wrong Chalamet is a good actor but there is much more smoke than actual fire there, hords of teenage fangirls making him the best thing since Moon’s landing can skew perceptions.January 22, 2020 at 8:15 am #1203298635
I agree that Matt Damon would do a wonderful job. He played that western/Texas character in Ford v Ferrari and True Grit and he nailed it both times – plus he’s the perfect “good guy”. I think he’d be a great fit.
He is busy with Stillwater and The last Duel.
De Niro and Leo in another Scorcese picture? Yawn. Other actors exist.
Agree, I understand directors have their favourites but after some point it becomes tiresome.
