With the exception of the penultimate episode, I have to admit I don’t really get the Waddingham hype

Nick Mohammed’s performance is probably the funniest on television this year for me. The role’s not a stretch by any means but if we can praise dramatic turns for their subtlety, why can’t we laud comic ones for their simplicity?

Lmao I totally forgot about Menzies. I’d probably have him 10th.

SUPPORTING ACTOR
(ranked in order of perceived likelihood of nomination)Long story short, I have no idea. But here goes.
1. Mahersahala Ali, Ramy – A good place to start in displaying how comfortable I feel about this category. Here we have a big star in a praised turn on a show that the HFPA recognised last year. Even he though suffers from…[Read more]

LIMITED/TV MOVIE ACTRESS
(ranked in order of perceived likelihood of nomination)1. Anya Taylor-Joy, The Queen’s Gambit – She’s getting in and she’s probably winning.

2. Nicole Kidman, The Undoing – The HFPA love this woman and her show was the exact kind of popular trash they love to nominate (if…[Read more]

I wouldn’t say buzz is solely defined by critics lists and I doubt the HFPA are following the casting news of someone they can’t remember the name of

LIMITED/TV MOVIE ACTOR
(ranked in order of perceived likelihood of nomination)1. Hugh Grant, The Undoing – I don’t think he is winning and I severely hope he isn’t as this is definitely the weakest of his career renaissance performances. But with his name and how successful the show was I’d be most shocked if he missed when, yes, there are many…[Read more]

Yeah I did because none of them were in critically acclaimed shows. I thought that bit was obvious. Surely the only Globe contenders we should be ruling out based on the Critics Choice nominations are ones that we would have expected the critics to lean more towards than the HFPA? This applies to none of the contenders you listed.

Why would any of these people get in with Critics Choice? Washington was the only one who even stood a chance due to them copying many of the Emmy nominations.

I don’t think it’s that big of a conundrum. Emmy voters didn’t watch past episode 4 (by the time they voted anyway) and Critics Choice went copy and paste.

These awards remain such a waste of airtime. They are just so inconsistent that it’s like they were compiled by one person rather than the votes of many.
