Appreciate the link but I’m not falling for that. C’mon, how can any of you actually believe Parasite has a shot at winning BAFTA? The movie hasn’t even been released there yet? It’s not just the voters seeing the movie, it’s having to compete against 1917 on its home turf. This is one to bet your house on!
You’re using an example of a film that didn’t gain traction anywhere. My point is that when it comes to Parasite, UK’s release date is an outlier relative to all other countries. The UK is the only country to have a release date that late! Do you think that’s by accident?
Edit: In retrospect, I overreacted with this post. I don’t think there’s any conspiracy against this film or any other films contending. BAFTA snubbing Parasite wasn’t surprising b/c of its history and that’s fine. Brits have every right to support their friends/countrymen. But for the film to be released 3 days after Oscar voting closes when…[Read more]
Though Mendes is completely deserving to be considered for Best Director, I don’t think there’s enough to put him over Bong. 1917 is a fantastic film heavy-laden with cinematography and technical brilliance…but for me, that’s it. It didn’t pull me emotionally as I would’ve expected nor did it offer a message any different from Dunkirk or Saving…[Read more]

OUATIH is on life support here, if they lose Best Ensemble tonight then they’re shut out of the guilds apart from Brad Pitt. No ACE/Eddie (Parasite won), PGA (1917 won), SAG Ensemble (Parasite or The Irishman), likely out of DGA (between Bong & Mendes) and it’s ineligible for WGA (which will likely go to Parasite for Orig.). The no editing nom…[Read more]
Perhaps you could provide examples. Denzel got zero BAFTAs. They call their equivalent of the Academy’s Best Foreign Language Film, the pejorative title of “Best Film Not in an English Language”. There’s a whole movement out there that calls them out for being too white. When I meant conservative, I meant they like to stick to films that are…[Read more]
I think 1917’s win took more out of OUATIH than it did with Parasite b/c it needed something to dispel the buzz about it missing the editing nom.
Tonight is a must-win for both OUATIH and Parasite, but OUATIH has more to lose than Parasite…because if ONCE loses tonight its odds will drop from #1 to #3 (depending on whether Parasite wins) in a…[Read more]
I think British voters weren’t fully embracing Gravity as their own since it was directed by a Mexican and featured two American movie stars.
But BAFTA has a long history of siding with their films over what would be an eventual BP winner:
– 4 Weddings & a Funeral over Forrest Gump in 1995.
– Sense & Sensibility in 1996 over Braveheart (& Apollo…[Read more]
Rory's First Kiss replied to the topic Who should present best picture at this year's oscars in the forum Movies 9 months, 1 week ago
Meryl Streep. She’s never presented BP before and she’s not a nominee in any categories this year.
Predicting it’ll be Joaquin-Renee-Pitt-Dern, however if there’s an upset that could happen…it’s with Renee not winning and it’ll likely be Charlize.
Predicting the Ensemble category is a tough one. It’s between OUATIH, The Irishman and Parasite. I think the most deserving winner is Parasite b/c of how balanced & stellar each of the cast members…[Read more]
Exactly as you said, the list isn’t just limited to these ppl. Of course, I know Parasite is wildly popular with a lot of white ppl. But you ask a group of Koreans which film they’d root for it’s going to be “Parasite” by a far margin compared to a group of random white folks, that’s for sure.
