I had been thinking that Fleabag just wasn’t eligible to compete in series based on the HFPA eligibility rules (https://www.goldenglobes.com/sites/default/files/media/golden_globe_awards_eligibility_descriptions_final.pdf), but it turns out that this season of Fleabag runs for a total of 152 program minutes, 2 more than is necessary, and therefore can compete.

I had Fleabag winning series even since nominations came out.September 23, 2019 at 7:27 am #1203097737
I’m conflicted. The show was awful but the winners great.September 23, 2019 at 7:20 am #1203097712
Again, stranger things is now the most watched and popular show in the world since got ended. It is not missing a series nomination.September 23, 2019 at 6:04 am #1203097530
Y’all convinced me to remove Ben Whishaw for MKW.
I’m glad I switched Black Mirror and Deadwood last week.September 23, 2019 at 5:15 am #1203097449
Maybe this fiasco will trigger reforms in the Academy. If you can’t produce a comedy or drama with more than, say, eight episodes, you are automatically shipped to limited series. It is patently unfair to those shows who tell their stories more leisurely than those who want to rush things. The Emmy voters fell for the hype, the flavor of the moment with Fleabag. This cannot be repeated.
Seasons of only 5-6 episodes is the norm in multiple European countries and especially in the uk. No they are not limited series.September 23, 2019 at 5:12 am #1203097443
It won just as much Acting Awards as it did in it’s best years- yet still got 9 acting nominations. It lost writing last year as well yet still won Drama Series despite the hard competition. And yeah, the Directing thing was an embarrassment. But the only explanation I can find for it is vote splitting, which is exactly the opposite of lack of passion. There’s no need to find excuses to diminish their accomplishments.
It only got so many acting nominations because the competition wasn’t there. It would have never gotten 4 supporting actresses with shows like The Crown, BLL, stranger things, the Handmaid’s tale and you can’t deny that. They just name checked everything related to GoT in the nomination phase with no intention of awarding them.September 23, 2019 at 5:04 am #1203097431
GoT only won because it had no clear alternative and people working in production such as costumes etc voted for it. It’s clear directors, writers and actors were not here to award it. Netflix really should have released the crown in spring.September 23, 2019 at 4:14 am #1203097393
Sian Clifford was probably so close to win supporting actress… The voters who just name check Oscar winners should be banned.
