I was pretty much crying after the episode ended. I don’t really have anything else to say. It is what it is.
I do think the scene with Liz and Tracy at the strip club was the best scene. It was just perfectly symmetrical with the pilot.
All I really care about is Jane K getting an Emmy. Make it happen, voters!

Yeah, I’m also surprised Martha wasn’t played by someone famous (or am I missing something?) I certainly don’t think they did the wrong thing though. Looking back, some of the best guest roles have been by people who aren’t very famous (like the lady who played Jack’s Jamaican babysitter…although I think that actress won a Tony for Doubt but still…)

I really liked season 6, but season 7 has been a huge step up so far. I don’t necessarily think 30 Rock should win a 4th Best Comedy Series Emmy just yet (Veep could be really great this season)…but I hope it wins SOMETHING (cough cough Jane K). It hasn’t won an Emmy since season 3…!
My favorite quote was definitely the quote about Liz’s parents spending the money they saved for Liz’s wedding on a PT Cruiser. Tragic, yet hilarious at the same time.

The one win I can think of that still boils my blood to this day is Jim Parsons winning his SECOND emmy over Steve Carell last year. The idea that voters dislike Carell that much makes me a little depressed. And, honestly, pretty much every other nominee was more deserving than Parsons. Even Galecki would have been an endearing surprise. But, really, that Emmy belonged to Steve Carell.
ReplyOctober 12, 2012 at 5:30 pm #258268Many people say that 30 Rock has lost its edge, but this episode was yet further proof (as if it needed any…) that it’s still THE best written comedy on TV, and has been remarkably consistent. I don’t understand why people think otherwise; I feel like people have an almost robotic, conditioned response to automatically hate on a TV show after its third or fourth season.
Seriously, name a show with better jokes and one-liners?
I agree with this! Although…I think it has more to do with the number of awards, than the number of seasons. After the show won its third Comedy Series Emmy, people suddenly began hating on the show (and this was before season 4 began)
Anyway, I thought this episode was great. It wasn’t the most laugh-filled, but I thought the situations and meta commentary was enough for 30 minutes of television. (Paul Ryan dropping out of the race was so weird…I wonder where they’ll go with that!) And the return of Cooter (one of my favorite guest stars from the show) just made me really giddy. (“Ow.”) But, hey, these writers can’t please everyone…
I’m about to watch it again!
ReplyOctober 5, 2012 at 12:27 pm #258253I disagree with y’all. Season premieres have never been the show’s strong point, but I thought this episode was better than the others. I dunno…this was just such a wacky episode. My favorite bit was “Homynym” (Au Pair vs. “Oh! Pear!”). I also liked how Liz Lemon growled “NO CAKE?!” when Jenna revealed that her wedding cake would just be foam. Liz Lemon food jokes never get old!
This episode makes me confident that the next 13 episodes will be great.

October 4, 2012 at 4:00 pm #25824430 Rock is my favorite show, and I’m glad the show is ending after 7 seasons. It’s the right number of seasons. However, I wish they were given a full order. I feel like Tina Fey and co. want so many guest stars and past guest stars to appear that this short season will just be a parade of guest stars. Poor Cerie. She’s probably going to have like 4 lines this year.
But I’m definitely anxious for tonight. Hopefully a nice boost in ratings? (Like a 1.6?)
