who said that? I don’t expect an award show as corrupt as the Grammys to succumb to social and political movements. As far as I remember, the Grammys have always played it safe and would rather continue to do so to avoid any controversy even though they follow their own POLITICS to dictate their winners, performances etc. Like Drake said it’s about time we reconsider the Grammys from being the highest form of recognition for music.
Imagine the Grammys choosing Folklore to win AOTY after being called out by major mainstream artists like The Weeknd and Drake for being corrupt so that Taylor, America’s sweetheart and darling, can win AOTY not for a SECOND time but for a THIRD time. Yeah…not happening.
You just said that. LolNovember 27, 2020 at 10:19 am #1203877642
A lot of people on here are making such baseless assumptions. Although a few of the picks seem random, I don’t doubt that any of the albums nominated didn’t make Top 20. Coldplay are literally veterans within the industry. Voters could’ve been lazy and just name-checked them, since they’re near the top of the ballot. They also got a random Pop Album nomination for a flop EP in 2018 over Lorde, an AOTY nominee. They clearly have support. Everyday Life was also submitted to Rock Album, where the Rock committee could’ve blocked it. Jacob Collier has a ton of support from people within the industry including the likes of Quincy Jones who is his mentor. HAIM are highly respected musicians who released one of the most acclaimed albums of the year. They missed Alternative Album on a straight vote, however we’ve seen this happen before with the likes of Lana Del Rey missing Pop last year but still making AOTY. Jhené has one of the best selling R&B albums of the year. She also got nominated for AOTY at Soul Train, showcasing support for. Black Pumas were nominated for BNA last year, so they were clearly on voters’ radar. As I said before nominations, they had a minor hit and could surprise in the GF, which they did. I’ve said this numerous times now but there’s no point in guessing what was and what wasn’t in the Top 20, since it’s so unpredictable.
To me, this means that they not only picked albums that wasn’t in the top 20 this year, they do it every year 💀
But whatever, it’s just my opinion. Discussing about that is pointless. What we know is that The Weeknd isn’t a player anymore.November 27, 2020 at 3:22 am #1203877070
Guys I understand’ the “After Hours snub” in Pop Vocal Album because voters thought he was in R&B Progressive Album. I just don’t understand how “Blinding Lights” was snubbed. “Beauty Behind The Madness” competed in Urban Contemporary Album and “Can’t Feel My Face” in Pop Solo Performance “GIRLS” by Pharrell competed in Urban Contemporary Album and “Happy” in Pop Solo Performance “Cuz I Love You” by Lizzo competed in Urban Contemporary Album and “Truth Hurts” in Pop Solo Performance So I understand that the genre confusion of the album hurt “After Hours” chances to be nominated. I just don’t understand how “Blinding Lights” was snubbed in Pop Solo Performance.
For me, it’s pretty obvious that the Grammys are corrupt. There’s no way Blinding Lights didn’t have enough votes to enter in BPSP.
Also, I doubt half of the albums nominated in AOTY were in the top 20.November 27, 2020 at 12:16 am #1203876956
I agree. People need to realize that Harry made every category he submitted to that wasn’t controlled by the BRP👀
Except Best Music Video. It has a committee.
But I kinda agree. Though I think it’s unlikely, if there will be a dark horse, it’ll be Harry.November 27, 2020 at 12:07 am #1203876930
Not y’all thinking Dua has higher chances than Taylor because of her “poppier” sound when Adele, a soul-oriented singer, won BPVA twice last decade.
Pop is more than dance-pop.November 26, 2020 at 10:06 am #1203875327
If Dua beats Taylor in BPVA, she’s sweeping, which I think is very unlikely.November 25, 2020 at 10:21 pm #1203874094
Taylor won’t be dragged. She’ll be dragged by Twitter (already is being) but who cares. The media drags artists who won only when they win over albums extremely acclaimed by black artists like Lemonade, TPAB, Damn and etc. There’s no such album this year. As you know, Kacey and Billie weren’t dragged when they won.November 25, 2020 at 10:05 pm #1203874074
Exile was always winning.
Telephone had Gaga in her prime time and fucking Beyoncé, and it lost to a ballad that didn’t chart.November 24, 2020 at 6:07 am #1203860895
It’s funny because we spend literally months waiting, debating and killing each other because of awards and then the artist, the person who actually gets to win the award, does one thing and they’re thirsty.November 24, 2020 at 12:49 am #1203860260
if the rumour is true which i hope but i don’t think the most nominated artist this year gonna be female artist? i mean it can be megan but i bet roddy pulled more nominations in case its megan aoty soty roty rap performance rap album best new artist what other categories i am missing for her?
I don’t know about Megan, but HER has a lot of submissions. Other female artist that could be is Brittany Howard.November 24, 2020 at 12:40 am #1203860250
I’ll be very glad if Beautiful Ghosts is nominated instead of Only The Young. OTY stands no chances against Billie. Beautiful Ghosts is another flop, but it has Andrew Lloyd Webber. They usually have a hard-on for legendary acts.
Not that I think it would win, I just think it’s a stronger contender.November 21, 2020 at 7:10 am #1203852603
As long as there are Swift fans on this forum, no positive Harry post will be left undisturbed. They hate him with a burning passion and will jump on anything that helps his case. I think it’s because they can’t stand that he’s not living in Taylor’s shadow anymore from having dated her for two weeks and is his own relevant solo artist. For people who are fans of a very successful artist, you guys are very insecure. It’s quite possible that the constant Harry put-downs by Swift fans are heavily contributing to what is keeping Harry fans from predicting anything for him. There’s no real logic behind why he would be snubbed when you compare his year to the year of the people he’s going up against – other than his lack of history there but again, every Grammy nominated artist started off with no Grammy history at one point.
You do the same with Taylor since day 1. Please, stop playing the victim.November 21, 2020 at 7:07 am #1203852586
For stanning one of the most successful musicians of all time, Swifties are painfully insecure about any other artist doing well or having stans root for other artists. A Swiftie who posts regularly on this forum (the user @breathe) on their Twitter account agreed with a tweet saying that they hoped Harry would join the 27 club soon, which tells you everything you need to know about what sort of people are on this site. The fact is neither Taylor or Harry are going to win AOTY so this discussion (when this is supposed to be just the AOTY thread) is essentially solely based on discrediting Harry’s success, along with discussing his sexuality and his fanbase which has been going on for months now in this forum for no logical reason.
Breathe is my friend. She would never do that.November 21, 2020 at 6:37 am #1203852472
Are you doing this on purpose? HDD doesn’t count 2019 and that’s when Fine Line and both Adore You and Watermelon Sugar came out. I just gave you the overall activity. 750k+ for Fine Line and 460+ for After Hours in terms of pure sales, 12 million track sales for Fine Line, 10.5 million for After Hours. I’m …?
Lol, I just said that because After Hours also had songs coming out last year. They have similar sales in the US anyway.
