There’s no finer supporting performance than Matthew Goode’s turn as Robert Evans. And Evil might be the best drama on TV, but isn’t even in serious discussion. But then, as with the Oscars, TV critics are straying to artsy product that often fails to engage audiences. I couldn’t watch White Lotus, or Yellowjacks. The Dropout and Dopesick were overrated ( that topic has been done to death). I think the critics decide the favorites before they even watch the shows, ignore broadcast TV entirely (FBI is better than half the shows on the Gold Derby prediction list), and severely discount lower profile streamers such as P+.
Ps if Squid Game had been on broadcast TV, it would be up for a Raspberry. It’s truly terrible.February 25, 2019 at 1:43 pm #1202794386I would like to see some “experts” with a less politically correct approach to analysis. I’m a liberal, but I was dismayed by the trash-talking Green Book was subjected to in the post Oscar chat Sunday night. The experts came across like pc snobs with no appreciation for a significant portion of movie fans who want an enjoyable, inspiring story, and don’t care what race the screenwriter is or whether the “message” exactly fits the prevailing pc narrative. I for one saw all 8 films and thought Green Book was clearly the most entertaining. It’s nice for once a crowd pleaser wins best picture. Too often the prize goes to a critical darling that most normal people find boring at best. (One of the experts claimed a Green Book principle was a racism denier, which I thought was inappropriate and frankly irrelevant given the context. Very disappointed. )
