I couldn’t agree more. Women need to start winning for type of roles men have no problem taking the gold for. It’s 2021 and we deserve better.March 5, 2021 at 6:03 pm #1204086812

As much as it pains me to say I think it’s over for Carey. But PYW will become a classic and it’s her daring and atypical performance that most people will be remembering in years. Let’s hope some day roles like hers, Pike’s or Huppert’s can win. Anyway happy for Kaluuya and Youn. I’ll be celebrating with everyone else when it happens.
Carey is in great company. Queens!March 2, 2021 at 6:19 pm #1204078159
I can’t wait for yet another music biopic performance to win. How original.February 25, 2021 at 7:38 am #1204060677
The way PYW keeps killing it at the guilds. Costume next.February 16, 2021 at 11:40 am #1204044865
These Judas stans are like ‘Sound of Metal? What’s that?’ Just chill lmaoFebruary 15, 2021 at 4:14 am #1204042698
Masterful performance from Kaluuya and I definitely think he should win the Oscar although I didn’t like the movie as much as others. That script is all over the place and I doubt it will get a BP nom.February 13, 2021 at 1:42 pm #1204040813
Who are you to say King is focusing on the “wrong” things? King did not make a biopic about Hampton’s life–he has even said he doesn’t think a studio would go for that. I don’t see anyone complaining because Sorkin’s film is not a biopic on Hampton’s life.
Who said anything about a biography? But by focusing so much on the betrayal and not the Panther cause felt reductive and soulless.February 2, 2021 at 7:25 am #1204014032
Ma Rainey wouldn’t come close to a BP nomination in another year.January 22, 2021 at 12:26 pm #1203996530
That being said, I’m really starting to think Zendaya could win Best Actress with the incredible reactions she’s getting. We all saw what she did at the Emmy’s, her role in this film is pure Globe and SAG bait, and we’ve seen the Academy award a young starlet having her breakout moment many times before (Hillary Swank, Halle Berry, Charlize Theron, Reese Witherspoon, Marion Cottiard, Jennifer Lawrence, Brie Larson, etc…). Best Actress winners don’t tend to be affected by reviews as much as the other acting categories as well.
Pure delusion.January 21, 2021 at 8:01 am #1203994377
These anonymous Oscar and BAFTA voters reveal their preferences. They loved Nomadland, Sound of Metal, Another Round, Collective and Boys State. For performances they singled out Francis McDormand, Riz Ahmed and Daniel Kaluuya. https://www.screendaily.com/features/awards-whispers-anonymous-ampas-and-bafta-voters-on-viewing-this-years-contenders/5156411.article
There seems to be real passion for Sound of Metal. First SAG and now BAFTA and AMPAS. Keep underestimating it I guess.
