That’s what I’m curious about – will Adele ever get tired of being associated with heartbreak? She’s joked about it before, about how everyone cries to her music, but at the same time, no artist has ever wanted to be artistically boxed. When she announced her split, the general reaction was ‘OMG I can’t wait for all the sad songs!’ … but what if she delivers the opposite? What if her new album, which People says will be released before the end of the year, isn’t at all what you’re expecting and is instead a collection of songs that make you want to dance? People’s headline is about how, right now, she’s “perky as hell”. “Perky” is not a word usually associated with her music.
I see her doing something like Emeli Sandé’s ‘Heaven’.
If Adele changes her typical sound and gets critical and popular approval, I don’t see why they would deny her their third AOTY.September 3, 2019 at 1:40 pm #1203056034
The link I posted said the person got them from GoldDerby. The Sharon person you’re quoting says on the very same page you linked that they misremembered certain information, and that was also a year after “Skyfall” was entered, so just drop it, you’re wrong.
“I want to provide the most accurate submissions as possible without missing a key thing (like how Adele skipped on submitting “Skyfall” into the general and pop fields).”September 3, 2019 at 1:29 pm #1203056017
They never pick live versions, but they are eligible despite your claim to the contrary. So yes, Adele was eligible in ROTY with “Set Fire to the Rain” (live) and in ROTY/SOTY with “Skyfall,” and was passed over both times. My point stands
If every live version is deleted in ROTY it isn’t as if Adele had been exclusively excluded.
It has been pointed out that Skyfall wasn’t submitted to pop solo and general field. @sharon1 (industry voter) > pop forum. That is all.September 3, 2019 at 8:10 am #1203055340
I already said it wasn’t eligible for SOTY, clown. It was eligible for ROTY. Just from last year’s submissions alone, “Havana (Live)” and “New Rules (Live)” were submitted for ROTY, hence eligible: https://www.goldderby.com/forum/music/2019-grammy-predictions-part-10-newcat-submissions-edition/
Happy, the biggest hit of 2014, was submitted with the live version and wasn’t nominated for ROTY. It seems to be a committee rule, never a live version has been nominated. It’s not as if Adele had been removed, and as it was said she had won it all a year earlier. Using this to say that the committee may remove it in the future is ridiculous.September 3, 2019 at 6:47 am #1203055182
This is possible because the general field nominations are determined by committee. This is why you will sometimes see songs not even get nominated in the pop categories but they will be nominated for Record/Song of the Year.
Say one live version nominated in SOTY.September 3, 2019 at 6:21 am #1203055125
I put Anderson Paak. and Gary Clark Jr. above Khalid.September 3, 2019 at 6:12 am #1203055105
Beyonce’s best chance was for I Am… Sasha Fierce. LOLSeptember 3, 2019 at 6:02 am #1203055087
Sometimes I think Sturgill Simpson was runner-up against Adele, not Beyoncé.September 3, 2019 at 4:58 am #1203055040
“Skyfall” was not entered in Pop Solo Performance, but it was entered in Record and Song of the Year, and passed over. I remember this from 2013 and I don’t know how long this cache will last, but I checked here: https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:pdLQcmkZ4hMJ:https://awardswatch.com/forums/showthread.php%3F33948-Grammy-Submissions-2013/page2+&cd=8&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&client=safari “Set Fire to the Rain” was eligible and entered for ROTY. SOTY was the category it wasn’t eligible in.
Say one live version nominated in SOTY. However, SFTTR (Live) won songs nominated in SOTY / ROTY as Stronger (Kelly Clarkson) and Call Me Maybe (Carly Rae Jepsen) in Pop Solo.
@sharon1 has been providing Grammy submissions for years. Her words >September 2, 2019 at 8:36 pm #1203054645
They will block her if she’s deniable in any way. “Set Fire to the Rain” and “Skyfall” both missed in the general field.
Set Fire to the Rain (LIVE) wasn’t eligible in the general field.
@sharon1 revealed that Skyfall wasn’t submitted to SOTY / ROTY / Pop Performance (https://www.goldderby.com/forum/music/grammy-submissions-for-the-59th-annual-grammy-awards/page/8/#post-1201942355).
Adele’s only exclusion was Best Music Video (Hello).August 27, 2019 at 11:52 am #1203043113
Adele deserves it, but she released 2 albums and 9 singles. Drake will be the ‘2010s Artist of the Decade’.August 26, 2019 at 8:22 pm #1203042045
