Sydney Sweeney is getting rave reviews for reality. Doubt it translate to best actress nomination but its good she finally had a good film role after the atrocity that ruined her character in season 2 of euphoria. Perhaps a Gotham and spirit nomination?
I think it’s a possibility. She’s done an interview about it, and it’s a nice PR push to get her to be taken more seriously.

I will always be disappointed that Jennifer was never in contention, because she did such an amazing job in this movie.
ReplyDecember 17, 2022 at 12:39 pm #1205199019Yeah I regretted not going for the IMAX version… Cameron should get at least a BD nom for this.
I’m regretting it, because I would see it again, but I wouldn’t be able to convince the same person I went with to see it again, because they wouldn’t want to sit as long again. It’s disappointing, because I hear it’s amazing in IMAX 3D.
ReplyDecember 17, 2022 at 10:38 am #1205198915I just saw this movie, and it was breathtaking, absolutely beautiful. I would absolutely see this again in IMAX 3D.
ReplyDecember 14, 2022 at 4:14 pm #1205195300Ana de Armas was one of the nominees who thanked the Golden Globes. She posted a post on IG celebrating with flowers, champagne and a cake on the set of Ballerina in Prague (a John Wick spin-off).
If she wins… oh wow, imagine the chaos. I’m here for it.
December 13, 2022 at 7:37 am #1205192640Having just watched Fabelmans, I’ll join the symphony of people saying Dano should get nominated. Judd Hirsch? Eh, it was fine.
I agree. When I watched The Fabelmans, Dano was the standout for me. A nomination would be deserving.
I can’t wait to see Banshees with all the raves about Keoghan’s performance.
December 12, 2022 at 7:21 pm #1205192172LOL no one is even talking about Robbie…I myself was more pleasantly shook that Ana did make it in for Blonde. Panned movie aside her performance is DEF worthy. Just my hot take…
Although I wasn’t the biggest fan of Ana’s performance, she got a lot of positive reviews for her acting; it was the movie that got the biggest backlash, so I think there’s a lot of people who agree with you.
December 9, 2022 at 6:54 pm #1205185951Is anyone else to the point I am in questioning that both Claire Foy and Jessie Buckley make it in for Women Talking?
I’ve questioned this, but I feel like it’s more likely than Curtis and Hsu being nominated together. I could be wrong, of course, but it has crossed my mind.
December 6, 2022 at 5:49 pm #1205181073Upon reading that Anya Taylor Joy resorted to method acting to voice Princess Peach in the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie, I’m now thinking to myself “how often does that happen?” Are there any other examples of actors method acting to prepare for voiceover roles in animated films?
This is interesting; I haven’t heard about this. I wish Chris Pratt did the same thing for his Mario voice. A missed opportunity.
ReplyDecember 6, 2022 at 5:43 pm #1205181066The fact that The Woman King is still chugging away in a small amount of theaters EIGHTY DAYS after its release is kind of incredible for todays theater landscape. It was released a full two weeks before the next longest running release currently in theaters (Smile). TWK and EEAAO are the only two best actress vehicles that will end up in the top 30 grossers of the year. It’s the only period film to make it into the top 30 other than Elvis, and by extension also the only more “traditional” oscar movie in that group. I don’t really have much else to say, this may end up helping Davis or it may not, but this movies legs are pretty incredible and if they work that into the campaign I can only see it helping.
Yeah, and I think Viola has good will with her peers and the academy, so I think all of that compiles in her favor. I’m keeping her in my predictions for these reasons, at least for now.
November 21, 2022 at 4:15 pm #1205163073the private message function doesn’t seem to be working for me
Yeah, this and the prediction center are both not working for me, and I don’t know what to do or who to contact. I’ve been having these issues for awhile.
ReplyNovember 21, 2022 at 4:05 pm #1205163062I think it was a mix of all of the above. No doubt Redmayne was helped by his much more “transformative” (ugh) performance, but I think having this handsome young british man charming the pants off voters vs the famously prickly Keaton certainly helped too. I mean yes Theory of Everything got a bunch for oscar nominations by Birdman got more and even won Best Picture. There were definitely multiple factors at play. A lot of oscar voters, whether subconsciously or not, view their vote as an investment; they rarely waste their vote on someone they don’t expect to ever see again. A good speech can prove that in addition to being a good actor, you’re also capable of being a good celebrity, and I think oscar voters like to feel like they’re throwing their support behind someone who they’re confident will be around long term. So my point is, I can see the posters point that a good speech by Michelle Yeoh especially can serve not only to get voters on her side, but also to make it clear that she is capable of building on her momentum and cementing herself as an american celebrity in addition to being an international one, which I would guess is how a lot of people see her now.
I agree with this. The teaser trailer for The Witcher: Blood Origin came out not that long ago, is led by Yeoh, and comes out at the end of December. I wonder and hope that’ll be good for her momentum with more spotlight on her in this aspect. It might help her campaign.
November 18, 2022 at 3:55 pm #1205159699I think there’s a lot of passion behind EEAAO and Yeoh, but I don’t see the same passion necessarily for Hsu, so I can see her missing.
November 16, 2022 at 5:24 pm #1205156967I watched this recently. Jennifer did an amazing performance, and it really elevated the movie. I loved the realism. Brian also did a great job.
ReplyNovember 16, 2022 at 10:44 am #1205156454After recently finishing Tár and Causeway, my biggest takeaway is that I wish Jennifer was in the running. It was a great performance (Brian Tyree Henry also did a good job).
