I would love to see some surprises and first-time winners!
Obviously predicting my brother Dan in drama writing and Severance is every category in which it’s nominated.
Would really love to see Melanie Lynskey take drama actress!
Good luck, everyone!August 15, 2022 at 10:43 am #1205046476
Gold Derby in the house! @HayleyGoelzer just appeared on the livestream : )
Hi! It was a fun night! Super proud of Dan and the whole Severance fam!
I know it’s not the Emmys, but it was still a great event and of course I personally think it’s a sign of things to come! 😊July 18, 2022 at 9:56 am #1205018202
Alright, Severance friends!
Dan Erickson’s sister Hayley here, wanting to thank everyone for supporting the show! The FOURTEEN Emmy noms are insane!
SO, how do we feel our chances are in those 14 categories? I don’t know about you, but I thought the writing was decent. 😉July 15, 2022 at 12:07 pm #1205016306
I actually read it from someone who sent it to me on reddit. The pilot as well and you’re right. It reads on the page extremely well but is fascinating knowing how it was filmed and edited now. Thatspretty cool of you guys to do.
I have one autographed copy of “The We We Are” left. If you or anyone you know would enjoy having it feel free to DM me your address and I can send it to you!
(I’m really Dan’s sister, I promise) 😉July 15, 2022 at 12:02 pm #1205016302
I don’t think is relevant what it’s submitted necessarily, plenty of winners have won due to their popularity and not because they were the best (Schitt’s Creek in directing, GoT in writing for Battle of the Bastards, etc) I think Severance is a strong contender, the finale is not the episode I would have submitted but it’s a dark horse for Writing.
What would you have submitted?July 15, 2022 at 11:23 am #1205016273
I think Severance has a higher chance of winning directing than writing because Succession probably has that on lock.
I’m predicting Severance for writing because I’m Dan Erickson’s sister, so to not do so would be poor form. But obviously I see the strength in Succession’s writing (and all of the other nominees as well!) I do have a question though.
Dan and I went back and forth a lot on the best episode to submit (between the pilot and the finale). We ultimately (obviously) chose the finale because of how it was received and it’s recognizability. The pilot was, perhaps, a little bit of a showier display of writing though. So question: Do you think they consider the body of work of the entire show when they vote, or do they truly just focus on the episode submitted?
Thanks everyone for always being so lovely and answering my anxious/proud sister questions! 🤣😊July 14, 2022 at 1:49 pm #1205015572
Shut the door. Have a seat is still my favorite writing winner of all time. More so than Ozymandias or START from The Americans or any Succession episode. That will change if Severance wins.
LOVE your enthusiasm for the show! (Severance). Deadline posted an article with the full script of “The We We Are”. So crazy and enthralling to read it on the page! I printed them and had Dan sign a few copies and sent them out to fans. For me, it makes it even more meaningful to read it and see what they created from that writing.July 13, 2022 at 2:06 pm #1205014441
Going along with my Homeland/Mad Men comparison I’ve been going on about for Severance/Succession includes Homeland (Severance proxy) defeating Mad Men (Succession Proxy) back in 2012. If I could put money down on Dan winning writing I would. And I would be willing to put a lot of money on it given the Succession odds likely putting it down. The only thing that would justify Succession winning over it is laziness but historically the writing wing gets it right regardless of what people are predicting. Game of Thrones is the only one where they get it completely wrong and that show was much bigger than Succession and it isn’t particularly close. If your brother doesn’t win it won’t be because he didn’t deserve it.
Thank you. I certainly agree that he deserves it. Whatever happens, it has been a thrill. If he does win, you’ll see me (I’m going as his +1) as the person passing out next to him. 😉July 13, 2022 at 10:47 am #1205014139
It was a wonderful, exciting day to be Dan Erickson’s sister. 🙂 So very proud! I know he’s a freshman writer going up against some INCREDIBLE, established writing talent. Of course I’m predicting Dan to win but man, it truly is an honor just to be nominated! (I always used to think it was lame when people said that, but it’s true!) I’m assuming Mr. Armstrong is considered the front-runner for Succession? (understandably!)July 13, 2022 at 10:37 am #1205014114
Scott was great on Severance and I’m glad he finally broke through with a nomination. But if he wins over Brian Cox that would sit so poorly with me
I think Cox is great. Full stop. But I will forever make the case for Adam and I’m thrilled that he was nominated. He is playing two different versions of the same character in an extremely unusual and nuanced circumstance. We’ve never watched a “severed” person before, and so to me, it’s a truly groundbreaking performance that deserved every recognition.June 25, 2022 at 2:34 pm #1204996198
Outside of his Supporting Actor picks and the absence of Aniston I think these are good predictions overall and they’re mostly on line on what I’ve been predicting. Interesting to note that: Clayton Davis is not predicting Better Call Saul in Series. Feinberg is not predicting Bob Odenkirk. I think they’re both onto something.
Interesting though, isn’t Davis predicting Odenkirk for the WIN in drama actor? He definitely was at one point.June 25, 2022 at 1:10 pm #1204996145
What do we think of the final Feinberg Forecast?June 25, 2022 at 12:49 pm #1204996141
If someone can’t see/understand the excitement of this moment https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VH1sxYGdUr0 then I agree that they can’t help me. But perhaps the representation and energy that the likes of Jesse Armstrong, Dan Erickson, Ben Stiller, or Mark Mylod bring is the apotheosis of what they consider important in entertainment and life.
As Dan Erickson’s sister I was going to respond to this, but won’t.
I know Dan for the person he is (a person who would stand right beside you in fighting for representation) and that’s all that matters.June 23, 2022 at 6:15 pm #1204994646
When it comes to the writing race, sommething that was also pointed out, even though “The we, we are” is a great episode, it’s not a writing showcase
So, I usually don’t respond to comments (especially unflattering ones) about Severance given the inherent bias I have (that I’ve shared) of being creator/head writer Dan Erickson’s sister.
Dan and I spoke at great lengths and with a lot of intensity about which episode to submit. He spoke with many other people beyond me as well, of course. At first I was pro-pilot. However, that changed over time given the name recognition and universal acclaim of “The We We Are”. This is a freshmen show, with a super freshmen head writer. That name recognition is huge when you’re in that position. How many people can even recall what the name of the pilot is?
Beyond that, I disagree when people say “The We We Are” is not a writing showcase. It may not be as flashy as some, but I encourage you to actually go read it (you can read the full script on Deadline). Reading it gave me a whole new appreciation for what it took to make that episode what it was.
Finally, I think we can agree that especially when only one episode is submitted by the head writer, more than just that single episode is considered in voting. So again, and given that, having the name recognition of “The We We Are” seemed to make the most sense.
I guess we’ll see if we made the right call come July…and potentially September. Not now
