I like “Dark Horse” and looking forward to “Walking on Air” since Klaus Ahlund produced.September 21, 2013 at 9:55 am #371355
^ I agree. It’s going to be huge. Not JT numbers, and maybe not 500K, but it’s possible.June 17, 2013 at 9:54 am #371925
Her album should be good. I just want her to show that she is still one of the best voices out there.
But she’s not. Sure, in the studio with the right conditions and technology, she’s still impressive and better than most singers out there right now, but if her recent live performances are any indication, her voice is in horrible shape.
“Beautiful” (I refuse to indulget that hashtag bullshit) is really growing on me. I just wish there was more Mariah and less Miguel.May 6, 2013 at 2:27 pm #371896
I like the production. And it’s not a bad song. It just doesn’t sound like a single to me. And why Mariah didn’t sing the first verse is beyond me. Dumb. It’s also a little short. I’m not sure this is going to be a big comeback hit for her, but I’m eager to hear the rest of the album if this is the direction she’s going in.
And if we’re counting the remixes of “Triumphant,” then that’s my favorite of these recent singles, followed by this, then “Almost Home.”April 6, 2013 at 8:51 am #388225
The song sounds hot.February 7, 2013 at 7:00 am #371864
Are we ever going to get this new album? I figured this would be the new lead single and that the album would be out by spring.December 16, 2012 at 1:01 pm #371861
Every time I try to post, it takes me to my profile page and the post doesn’t appear.
I won’t bother retying everything I just typed, but, in short:
1. It’s clear we’re talking about the Grammys in 2006 and Rockefeller this year. Read the posts.
2. The climax of O Holy Night is lipped on the “live” version of the song on her last album.December 14, 2012 at 8:36 pm #371858
^ You crazy. She was totally lipping the belting parts. Keep being delusional about it though.December 10, 2012 at 1:39 pm #371853
^ The first part of WBT is live until she starts belting. She NEVER sings that part live, although she did sing that last long note live (which is why it sounds bad – since then she’s never sung any of the second half of the song live again from what I understand). The first part of “Fly Like a Bird” is live too, again until the belting part, which is pre-recorded.
For the record, she still does this. Her recent performance of “All I Want for Christmas” was almost surely 100% lipped, but her lambs are going nuts on YouTube saying it was live. It wasn’t.December 1, 2012 at 7:19 am #371848
It’s truly funny to me how an artist’s fans can make you dislike that artist even more. Granted, Christina doesn’t exactly make you want to root for her, but would we all be ganging up on her if Gucci wasn’t so annoying? Same thing for Gaga. If her little monsters weren’t so delusional and obsessive, would people be hating on her so much?November 30, 2012 at 9:06 am #371842
Mariah is definitely capable of scoring a #1. It’s easy to do that. All you need is the right promo and the right timing. If that weren’t the case, Rihanna and others wouldn’t be racking up #1’s so easily today. The digital revolution has changed everything. You don’t even need massive radio support to reach #1. It’s not like the old days. And it’s stupid to count her out. No one expected to her come back in 2005 the way she did, and while that kind of success is probably out of reach, she can surely have another “Touch My Body” sized hit. At this point she has a better shot than Christina, who’s much younger and should be cranking out the hits at this tage in her career.November 30, 2012 at 9:01 am #385263
^ Congrats on repeating yourself. If she were interested in doing other kinds of music and wasn’t interested in the money/success, she’s release another “not.com.mercial.” She’s not doing that, so clearly she wants to make her fans happy and make some money too.November 29, 2012 at 9:47 am #385257
^ Are you joking? No one wants to hear/buy Cher doing country or some other shit. She’s being smart by doing dance. That’s the only market that will accept her now. She couldn’t score a pop hit even if the song was AMAZING. You have to be 12 years old.November 28, 2012 at 1:49 pm #371839
^ I don’t think she’s in danger of becoming the next toni braxton. she has a much more loyal (and big) fanbase. not to mention, when madonna was mariah’s age she released “music,” and she scored a top 5 hit with “4 minutes” when she was 50. those weren’t exactly songs that were designed to appeal to the older crowd.November 28, 2012 at 1:44 pm #385252
I’m sure it will be a big club hit, but she’s capable of better for a lead single. And Paul Oakenfold? She should have gone with someone more current for her first album in over a decade. Not now
