Neither sza, Miley nor Taylor are strong in Pop Solo. I could honestly see Kelly snatching a surprise win.
I also see Kelly being the surprise in BPSP or BPVA. The pop field vote two ways: smash hits or strong vocals. If the most popular songs/albums won’t be liked enough by voters they can go with Kelly.

The industry adore them. I hope so

– Move Best Music Video to telecast
– 5-8 nominees in GF categories
– Bring back the 33% rule
– Reject samples in recording and performance categories if it’s more than 50% of the record
– New versions and re-recordings rejected in songwriting categoriesJune 7, 2023 at 4:06 pm #1205453837I know it’s not happening because it’s a Eurovision song, but Tattoo by Loreen should be a LOCK for a nomination and should be win competitive for BPSP. I’m sorry but that song is just too good.
PLEASE!!!
ReplyJune 7, 2023 at 12:34 pm #1205453665And Flowers sounds like ROTY. If I had to describe a song that could be a ROTY winner it would be something like Flowers. Academy loves this kind of nostalgic pop with traditional arrangement.
Talking about Morgan Wallen, I don’t see him nominated at all. However, Last Night could perfectly appear in songwriting categories. That would be a perfect message like “we appreciate country music and we love to see it toping charts again, but we don’t support this man”.
ReplyJune 7, 2023 at 11:03 am #1205453616I mean, Bangerz had a #1 and #2 hit and was a bigger than ESV an album that flopped hard so you could say she was a stronger contender back then but Flowers can be a contender because it’s a big hit, I just don’t know if the voters like her enough to give her a win
The problem with Bangerz was that the controversy around this record had more impact than the music itself. Flowers is nothing like that. This is the most mature version of Miley Cyrus. She’s an established artist with a big hit about her experiences. Not a Disney star desperate for a new image.
ReplyJune 7, 2023 at 9:41 am #1205453539Miley is not new tho and her past controversies could alienate some voters. Flowers could end up being a strong contender but I don’t know, I think the likes of Lizzo and Harry Styles are more awards friendly than her
She has one nomination ever. Obviously she is not a new artist, but a new artist as a strong contender yes. Also, some voters could see it as a perfect time to award her. A weak year and one of the biggest hits of the decade (or the biggest) is a perfect combo for Miley.
ReplyJune 7, 2023 at 6:51 am #1205453278I will be predicting Flowers to win ROTY/SOTY until I see another big hit with the sound that could be voted by conservative voters. I don’t get the “Miley Cyprus is a non factor for the Recording Academy”. The 2023 ceremony showed the voters want a change and they are open to new people.
ReplyJune 7, 2023 at 3:11 am #1205453200Amigos, third consecutive year you are predicting Sabrina Carpenter in BNA. She is NOT happening. Not every artist has to be a BNA nominee.
ReplyJune 6, 2023 at 12:58 pm #1205452708They should submit Rescued for Rock Performance and The Teacher for ROTY, SOTY and Rock Song.

Christina Aguilera, Adele, Kelly Clarkson and Jazmine Sullivan lol
ReplyJune 6, 2023 at 8:28 am #1205452518‘Just Wanna Rock’ is a lock for Rap Performance and Song, surely?
Even Record of the Year is a possible scenario. The industry loves this track.
ReplyJune 6, 2023 at 7:28 am #1205452489She released a Pop Album this time, no way she’s submitting in other field.
I think she could try in American Roots with “Thousand Miles”. But Brandi Carlile will have other submitions there and I don’t know if the rules of this field allow double nomination for an artist.
ReplyJune 6, 2023 at 4:25 am #1205452392Back to the debate about Creepin’ by Metro Boomin. I was predicting it to being moved to Pop but since Creepin’ is basically a new version of a R&B song I Don’t Wanna Know maybe it could be accepted in R&B Performance? The Weeknd is a previous R&B field winner and Metro Boomin is a new artist who consider himself hip-hop/r&b. The R&B field this year is so weak. Creepin’ could be a nice contender.
