why in the world would anyone think maisel was a lock?
It won PGA, Critics Choice, and the Gloden Globe. A rare trifecta that even Atlanta couldn’t complete. It’s SAG and WGA misses were more because of a late release. The consensus on the forum is that Maisel is a strong frontrunner at the moment.
Why is CC and GG now relevant all of a sudden?

Well it looks like The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel might not be a lock after all.
Two 100’s on metacritic, not including the A review from Indiewire.February 19, 2018 at 9:10 am #1202496925
This is what I dot get. Lady Bird is more beloved in the industry than I, Tonya, so people have seen Metcalf. Is there anyone that actually saw Janney and Metcalf and truly believed Janney was better? Of course there are some but I just don’t understand how Janney is winning other than a career win. It’s a shame because Metcalf’s win would have gone down to be one of the greats.February 17, 2018 at 1:28 pm #1202495584
Zazie Beetz is not in the first two episodes. I think that Donald Glover is angrier this season. No idea why “Free Paper Boi!” was in the description. The second episode is not a writing/directing submission, but it might end up being an option for Brian Tyree Henry. Would have liked another couple episodes to evaluate the direction of the season.
Possible sophomore slump or no?February 17, 2018 at 8:58 am #1202495517
Is Baldwin going to appear in enough episodes to even be eligible for supporting? Is someone keeping track?
He’s been in 5/13 episodes. So he’ll probably remain guest eligible. But he will also guest star on Will & Grace. I can imagine him submitting supporting since it won him and Emmy last year and so he can get a guest nom for Will & Grace.
I actually hated his original guest arc on Will & Grace and thought his Emmy nomination was so unwarranted.February 16, 2018 at 2:07 pm #1202495254
Miloti would have a strong chance in lead or supporting due to a lack of competition. It would be much harder for Plemmons because the male categories are more competitive this year.
You may be right about lack of competition – I wonder how Howard would have fared if she were competing this season. Part of me suspects, though, that voters don’t view Black Mirror as an “acting show.”
Who else is in the category? Elisabeth Moss, Sarah Gadon, Michelle Dockery, Sharon Stone (??), maybe Sarah Paulson for AHS?, pretty sure Penelope Cruz is supporting…what a difference a year makes.
Howard would have won this year, I suspect.
Right now I’m predicting, in addition to Miloti: Jessica Biel for The Sinner, Michelle Dockerey for Godless, Sarah Gadon for Alias Grace, Sarah Paulson for AHS, and Claire Hope Ashitey for Seven Seconds. That category was seriously hard to fill out. I only put Ashitey in there because I suspect Regina King will carry her show to Emmy spotlight, with a solid team behind it. Other contenders are Queen Latifah for Flint and Catherine Zeta Jones for another lifetime movie that was dubbed racist and sexist. Watch out for Latifah since her movie somehow beat Feud and Godless at WGA, and she is Queen Latifah. Nobody cares about Top of the Lake so I’m not predicting Moss to get in. Even though by that logic I shouldn’t be predicting Paulson, but I have her in because of the political angle. Not many other realist contenders. We have ladies fermi Phillip K Dicks, The Girlfriend Experience, Howard’s End (Starz Curse), and other lifetime movies. Maybe Sharon Stone gets in for Mosaic, but nobody has seen that show. Same goes for Edie Falco. Right now I have Jessica Biel winning easily, which says something.
Cruz is definitely supporting for ACS. I am definitely curious to see if Netflix submits Cristen Miloti and Georgina Campbell in supporting, which feels like something they would do. That category is also dry. I’m currently predicting Regina King, Merrit Weaver, Penelope Cruz, Laura Dern, Angela Lansbury, and Riley Keough. Hopefully FX submits an appeal so Judith Light could be eligible.February 16, 2018 at 1:45 pm #1202495246
I think we need to look out for Haddish at TCA. The press absolutely loves her. Any time she makes any type of public appearance there are multiple articles written about it. If The Last OG is any good and she is half decent on it, she could easily get nominated at TCA. Hopefully that’ll translate to the Emmys as well. That category is looking for a shuffle.
As for supporting actor, I agree Anderson is probably done. Marin got SAG and his show is popular. Hayes will of course be in contention but it hasn’t been winning much so if oredict Marin before Hayes. I’m not willing to say Burgess is done. Baldwin is probably out of there so it’s possible he wins, but I’m not even sure he’ll get nominated. Shaloub could easily get nominated but a win isn’t happening.February 16, 2018 at 12:43 pm #1202495227
I am seeing this on Saturday or Sunday. I am impressed with the buzz of this film, easily surpassing Wonder Woman and Logan. I do think that the liberal agenda of the industry could help this be an awards contender, not that it wouldn’t deserve to be.
I’m going to wait until later in the season before I predict this for a best picture nomination. It’ll easily get PGA and maybe WGA. Critics Choice is a possibility but they wouldn’t even touch Wonder Woman. BAFTA and SAG isn’t touching this past below the line categories. I doubt the Globes will be too fond of it either.
People keep saying Jordan and Wright could be acting nominees but I seriously doubt that. Sir Patrick Stewart couldn’t even become a nominee for what was in my opinion the best performance in that category. And it was pure bait as well.
Based on what I’ve heard, This should easily be able to get at least some of costumes, production design, song (Oscar nominee Kendrick Lamar?), score, visual effects, and cinematography. Past that I don’t see it doing to well, for now. If screenplay is as week as last year than maybe it’ll have a chance.February 16, 2018 at 12:19 pm #1202495201
Casting a ton of big name guest stars is almost always a sign of a sophomore slump. Hopefully they don’t let their success get in their way.February 16, 2018 at 12:17 pm #1202495198

Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell? Who are you and what did you do with Teridax?
