Anyone think Blonde might premiere at Venice? I hope we’ll get news on it soon: https://mobile.twitter.com/awards_watch/status/1403145916643635208
I think so, it wouldn’t make much sense for Netflix to refuse an out of competition slot in Cannes and not go for a Venice slot in competition, they clearly want festival awards for The Power of The Dog and Blonde.June 10, 2021 at 4:44 pm #1204295662
It will definitely do Venice thats a given imo, the rest we will have to wait I guess

Yup, Blonde could be so great. Tammy faye looks like typical Sept. Oscar bait that goes nowhere and Respect just looks awful, hudson singing karaoke Aretha franklin hits with cringe dialogue and acting. Blonde seems so interesting based off the director alone. Ana de armas and julianne nicholson will probably act circles around hudson and mary j blige.
Agreed about Tammy Faye and Blonde, but I still think Hudson can happen. Respect looks the “right” type of generic bait and Aretha is a huuuge icon, Tammy Faye is a nobody compared to her.June 9, 2021 at 7:55 am #1204292962
I’m willing to bet Tammy Faye is gonna be the On The Basis of Sex/The Aeronauts/Mary Queen Of Scots of the year. Not awful reviews, but mediocre and forgettable that doesn’t get substantial traction.June 9, 2021 at 7:18 am #1204292897
I guess I’m the only one here but I think that looks really bad and has failed oscar bait written all over it. I doubt Chastain is happening.June 7, 2021 at 5:38 am #1204289851
Okay maybe at this point only two things that could derail Canterbury Glass that “Oscars Submission” thing and Backlash after Casting announcement. Maybe Zoe Saldana first Oscar noms incoming??
On separate note. Sssuming Card Counter is going to Venice, perhaps Focus is confident that Schrader could get away from his comments on Elliot Page and Kevin Spacey??
Schrader’s comments haven’t made any noise, I doubt that would hurt the film. Worst case scenario it resurfaces and he apologizes and then everyone moves on, it’s not like he has serious allegations against him.June 5, 2021 at 2:59 pm #1204287683
Other than House of Gucci, have any other films that will be contenders released first look pictures on the first day of shooting? I remember being surprised when Gaga posted the pics. Does Ridley Scott usually allow this, and has he done it in the past? Pictures for Killers of the Floor Moon were also recently released. Will Damien Chazelle do the same for Babylon?
Spencer did it tooJune 3, 2021 at 9:13 am #1204284725
Where the hell are y’all getting this DOR shit. I swear to god y’all love to make up narratives and then say “everyone is talking about it.”
It trended on twiter twice and now there are articles coming out about it as well.June 3, 2021 at 9:05 am #1204284713
Expected Cannes to secure some bigger titles more easily this time since the new date is closer to awards season. Still looks like a solid lineup tho.June 2, 2021 at 2:44 pm #1204283890
David O. Russell is trending again, and this time only to condemn him and to a lesser extent question the ones who still work with him. This is getting bigger and bigger and it’s not even awards season yet.June 2, 2021 at 3:55 am #1204282978
I repeat it, aside from the SJW Twitter bubble, there won’t be any actual repercussion in the real world, no one will care about this. I have more issue with O’Russell being a mediocre director who got three Directing nominations in three years despite his last three/four movies being run of the mill and then completely forgotten after awards season.
And that same bubble started #oscarssowhite and the whole woody allen thing, both became major controversies. I wouldn’t underestimate the potential of that bubble’s impact. Critics and verified accs are already talking about it as well.
As for Taratantino who another user mentioned, he’s not a good comparison imo. Tarantino does not have nearly as much dirt as DOR, and Tarantino is very popular and well liked among critics and GP. Critics have been getting tired of DOR’s schtik and GP doesn’t care about him, he’s kind of an easy target.June 1, 2021 at 6:36 pm #1204282715
Nah, she’s literally still pals with him. They did a thing about two years ago, where it was pretty clear they were on good terms. My guess is that Don’t Look Up is better paid, honestly, as they were both filming around the same time. (It’s clearly Netflix’s big priority and remember how big of a budget they gave to their No. 1 priority film from 2019…)
But I don’t believe she did it for “moral” reasons, I think she did it because she saw it coming which could attract backlash to her as well like it did for actors who worked with Woody Allen. She rejected it to protect herself.
