Eh I like that it didn’t win… I even said that here a few days ago, it will age better if it loses.
Netflix needs to stop with the aggressive campaigning and they need more “heartwarming” movies if they want to win. Their movies being so accessible for everyone to watch also makes a lot people watch something that they would’ve never watched in theathers and then they end up not liking it.March 24, 2022 at 5:26 pm #1204874527
I think what makes me fascinated about ballots voting for Don’t Look Up is how high brow they tend to be skewing in other categories. One of the ballots voted for The Power of the Dog everywhere but checked it off as opposed to Licorice Pizza or The Worst Person in the World in original screenplay. There’s been an assumption for most of the season that the support behind the film was largely populist but looking at these ballots, it seems to have a lot of high brow appeal. Which in hindsight isn’t too surprising considering how well it did at BAFTA.
don’t hate me y’all I love TPOTD and Drive My Car (my top 2) and yet I really liked DLU but didn’t like Licorice Pizza and TWPITW😭.
DLU is really well liked outside of the US, especially in Latin America (where I’m from)March 24, 2022 at 5:20 pm #1204874518
Pls the anonymous ballots are giving me way too much hope. I’ll be heartbroken if Flee loses all its categories 😭March 21, 2022 at 11:09 pm #1204866207
I seriously don’t understand how TPOTD has a worse audience score than Mank on Rotten Tomatoes and almost the same on IMDB. Welp I guess Coda is winningMarch 15, 2022 at 10:20 pm #1204852906
lowkey want TPOTD to lose now, the backlash it’s been getting since the nominations came out is annoying as hell and I think it will age better if it losesMarch 13, 2022 at 11:01 pm #1204848845
this season has been a total mess, i wish next year Oscars are at the end of February-first week of March.
Early February is still too early I thinkMarch 9, 2022 at 2:34 am #1204837787
Someone who would probably make my personal lineup is Nathalie Richard in After Love, I just watched that movie and I loved it she was just as good as Joanna Scanlan. My winner would be Kathryn Hunter, I’m still bitter that the BAFTA jury didn’t even save herMarch 9, 2022 at 2:21 am #1204837775
I’m just happy Bardem ain’t winning if they wanted to give him a nomination this year, The Good Boss was right thereMarch 9, 2022 at 1:39 am #1204837714
My personal ranking
1. Jessie Buckley
2. Ariana DeBose
3. Kirsten Dunst
4. Aunjanue Ellis
5. Judi Dench
and DeBose will win BAFTA too obviously, some people tried it at SAGs saying that they will give it to Dunst cause they prefer veterans and as a career award but nope, some of the posts now about Buckley, Ellis and Balfe are cute but she’s gonna sweepMarch 3, 2022 at 8:36 am #1204829246
Off-topic but why is the HCA twitter handle @HCAcritcs? “Hollywood Critics Association critics” is bad grammar.
I guess HCA is too short and Hollywood Critics Association is too long
Troy got it wrong though they met at the SAGs, Kodi wasn’t at HCAMarch 2, 2022 at 8:41 pm #1204828547
I saw The Batman today and I loved it! and I’m not big on superhero movies (maybe cause it was more of a ‘mystery’ movie) would love if it actually turns out to be a contender but sadly I don’t think it will beMarch 2, 2022 at 11:09 am #1204827919
I haven’t made any predictions yet as I like to wait after the Oscars have passed but calling it NOW… Next Goal Wins will get nominated for Best Editing even if it ends up being another I, Tonya/Tick Tick Boom type of contender. They LOVE sports movies, plus Jojo Rabbit was nominated.February 27, 2022 at 9:04 pm #1204822772
So Will Smith really is about to win the Oscar with less critics awards than Cumberbatch and Garfield? So much for the metacritic scorecard.
Eh that doesn’t really matter for Best Actor. Hopkins was 4th (!!!) on the Metacritic score chart (probably cause a lot of critics groups didn’t get to watch The Father).
Phoenix was 2nd, Malek was 3rd,
Oldman, Affleck, DiCaprio were all 1st.
Redmayne was 3rd, McConaughey was 2nd, Day-Lewis was 1st, Dujardin 2nd.Not now
