Not some of you applauding the Academy behaving like the ultimate sheep and copying the SAG winners. Yes, BAFTA should have had more inclusive winners, absolutely, but them doing their own thing and spreading the wealth is not as bad as you make it seem.

It reeks of hypocrisy when we’ve been here every season criticizing the Clowns Choice for trying to predict the Oscars.

I’m hoping you meant this as a blanket statement of through the years cause:

Ummm did you already forget BAFTAs awarded like only 3 movies themselves: Banshees, Elvis and All Quiet took majority of their awards…besides a win here and there for other movies. So how exactly did they do their own thing when they didn’t exactly spread the wealth either… so again I hope you are referring to more than just this year.

After reading through all the reaction threads…wow some of you will say the same thing over and over and over again. Yeesh!

Anywho…that Angela loss HURT and you can tell it did to her and many of us. Knew it was an uphill battle with the ‘bias’ to marvel and another vet in the mix in the BP front runner and ended up coat tailing.

Hilarious that the same folks saying ‘oh I’m glad BAFTA did their own thing blah blah blah’ would be the same folks saying ‘see told ya don’t underestimate the BAFTA, they rule all, they are the best precursor’ had they went 4/4 like the SAG did. I knew the BAFTA was trash the minute they couldn’t even award Quan. LOL

Now for THE moment: Michelle!!! So glad Halle does NOT have to stand alone anymore. Took 20 frikkin years and it better NOT take another 20 to welcome the 3rd member to that club!

Glad that many movies went home empty handed as I saw a running tired theme in many threads stating ‘oh so and so will win because the movie they’re in can’t go home empty handed and it’s the place to reward that film’ not sure how that argument became a thing, but I was not one who believes that x amount nominated movies have to all win something.

    Well on to next year!

No tea no shade, but if Oscars want to go the narrative route (and IMO Angela does give a great performance too!) I feel Angela should be the choice…I love JLC but the thought of her winning on her first ever nod…does not sit with me well…especially if the Oscar’s get swept up in EEAAO fever since Hsu is right there. If they don’t want to give it to Angela because of the “marvel bias” then *AHEM* Hsu is.right.there.

My heart still says Bassett…but like others have said she should have easily walked away with the SAG especially since the first BP had previously won ensemble…BUT I also don’t feel like JLC will happen either, she def seems like a SAG thing..that got swept up in the EEAAO sweep. And then there’s BAFTA.

It’s really gonna come down to the opening of the envelope next Sunday and 3 ladies’ names could be the one on the inside of it. Each have their pluses and minuses and I just don’t know where to go with it. 🤦🏻

Dumb comment. Plenty of diversity in the nominees. Do you want set quota of POC winners each year?

But that’s where it stops: “nominees” this jury was set in place to make this organization seem diverse, but it doesn’t change the fact that their winners will continue to be far from diverse. These are facts.

Won’t take much stock in many of these winners since apparently this group watched a total of what 3 movies?

BAFTA will continue to BAFTA despite their “diversity” measures with the juries…*Rolleyes*

I can see WHY Beyoncé doesn’t win AOTY, besides the obvious reasons. I think she has low-key haters, and it’s probably because people are sort of forced to think Beyoncé has to win everything. The constant overpraise from Adele to Lizzo (like what does Beyoncé have to do with you winning ROTY? NOTHING!) is probably a turn-off for most voters.

In reality, an artist with over 30 Grammys cannot possibly be “done wrong,” especially when you have a living legend, such as Diana Ross, who still wasn’t able to get her first competitive Grammy win after 60 years. Beyoncé being the most awarded artist ever easily trumps one AOTY win.

    This!
I can see how off-putting the constant hype and praise Beyoncé gets no matter what she does can play into her hot winning AOTY. I was SO tired of Trevor constantly talking about her all night…how much did Jay-Z pay you bro like damn!
I loved loved Lizzo’s speech up until she too had to bring Beyoncé up…girl this is YOUR moment not another unnecessary let’s praise Bey again moment…
I really do wish people will get off the AOTY thing, did y’all literally forget that she is not THE MOST awarded artist in the history of Grammys?!? Celebrate that instead of what she doesn’t have, sheesh!
The beyhive really played themselves into thinking she was going to win AOTY this time with all the writing on the wall and how things played out on the decision of what awards were being presented on telecast…but eh whatever!

The way best actress could have had 3 WOC….but we get this lineup instead.

Hoping the snubs for Viola and Danielle won’t be in vain and Yeoh snatches what’s rightfully hers!

Don’t even get me started on that mess of an Andrea nod…I can’t even…

One would think that someone like Ms. Angela Bassett should be an Oscar winner by now.

Would I have ever thought that a vehicle like Black Panther in the MCU could be the ticket that could get her a LONG overdue 2nd nomination and even a possible WIN?!? Never in a million years but I.AM.HERE.FOR.IT.

Welp Ms. Berry you stand alone for yet ANOTHER year.

Such a shame this season since there were SO many viable options to change that, but here we are again.

Cate, hope your little statuettes enjoy the throple they’ll be having when you win again…

If Riseborough consistently campaigned throughout the season, getting people to see her movie when it came out, hyping it up for the precursors, using those connections ASAP rather than waiting until the almost literal last second, that would be one thing.

This last-minute unexplainable surge is so fishy. Where were these people during voting for SAG, BAFTA, etc? This is downright confusing.

    This!

It’s one thing if her ‘friends in high places’ decided to ignite a campaign when she landed an indie spirit award and thought hmmm maybe she can get to an Oscar nod. It’s another thing where just randomly out of the blue this wacko campaign of all these famous actors and actresses praising this actress/role to the high heavens with some of the comments being completely laughable – Kate Winslet I’m looking at you!! Not to mention the copy paste of tweets and social media posts…I mean cmon at least make it LOOK like this is all genuine…

Said it earlier and I’ll say it again, where is this kinda ‘push’ or ‘aggressive’ tactic for a WOC performance or hell even for a lead actress WIN for a POC?!? Especially when there have been better performances to champion in certain years.

It could also be positioned as an anti- campaign against another actress…who knows but all I know is that it is just plain odd.

    Imma say it:

Would this type of BS “support” happen for a POC actress who went completely unnoticed the entire awards season and all of a sudden it’s OMG BEST THING EVER BLAH BLAH BLAH LETS GET HER NOMINATED FOR THE OSCAR?!? I’m going to say no…

I swear if this last minute fabricated BS campaign knocks out a more deserving POC performance in the final five…gurrrl 😒😒😒
