I’m going to take Bong Jong-ho tying Walt Disney’s record of Oscars won in one night as a middle finger to Mr. Disney’s well-known racism. That way, its success last night will be even more glorious.
It doesn’t count for him. Roma’s win/nomination for International Film didn’t count for Alfonso Cuaron neither
Search Alfonso Cuaron for example:

Poor Sam Mendes. After winning all the precursors and being a gentleman the whole season, he is being Russell Crowe’ed. The precursors set him up to be embarrassed. But it is a good run for him though.
Yeah when he won the Globe he was actually surprised (like everyone) because he was like 4th in the predictions after Tarantino, Bong and Scorsese. Then he started to win all the precursors only to not giving him the big award in the end.
But hey at least he’s already an Oscar winner.January 29, 2020 at 10:12 am #1203318554
Billie, Lizzo and Lil Nas X will be put on hold next year. Even though Good As Hell and Everything I Wanted are hits, artist rarely maintain the hype 2 years. Adele did but Set The Fire To The Rain was big and Adele is in her own league.
A shame about Everything I wanted because it deserves at least a Pop solo nomination.
But you’re right. It would need to be a “Set The Fire To The Rain” type of hit to be nominated.
I don’t think Good as Hell is eligible though. Truth Hurts was eligible because it was included in Cuz I love You (Deluxe)January 29, 2020 at 10:08 am #1203318550
That Anyone song is bad.
I know it’s a special song for Demi but it feels so forced. Hopefully she releases something better as the lead single and this song isn’t submitted anywhere at the GrammysJanuary 29, 2020 at 3:08 am #1203318025
I hope Rodeo becomes a hit so Lil Nas & Nas can get a Rap/Sung nomination.
Imagine if Lil Nas helps Nas to win his first Grammy
But in reality Lil Nas is probably done after this year.January 28, 2020 at 6:41 pm #1203317632
I hope Beyoncé finally wins AOTY
But for that to happen the nominees need to be:
And 6 hip hop albums (all of them by black artists)
I don’t think H.E.R would take many votes from Bey and the hip hop albums would cancel each other.January 28, 2020 at 4:33 pm #1203317487
Nothing was stopping Billie from winning AOTY after Finneas took Best Engineering Album and Producer of the Year
Not even that Pop solo performance award for Lizzo fooled me. I knew Billie was taking both AOTY & BNA
The ones that I doubted were ROTY & SOTY. I thought Lil Nas was taking ROTY and Taylor or Lizzo SOTY.January 28, 2020 at 3:52 pm #1203317440
None of this explains why ROTY can’t award artist(s), songwriters, composers, producers, mixers, etc. for an entire song like AOTY does for albums now. All of those make up a “great song/record.”
They do something similar for the gospel categories:
Best Gospel Performance/Song:
It combines two previously separate categories Gospel Song (for songwriters) and Best Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music Performance (for performers). The current category recognizes both songwriters and performers.
In ROTY they could award performing artist(s), songwriters, composers, producers, mixers like you said.
But the problem will be for covers. For example I know it won’t happen but would Dolly Parton get a ROTY nomination if someone makes another successful version of I will always love you?
Would Diane Warren have gotten 2 ROTY nominations for How Do I Live if both Trisha & LeAnn’s versions were nominated for ROTY?
The same goes to “I Swear” which was nominated for SOTY in 1995 and it was performed by both All 4 one and John Michael MontgomeryJanuary 27, 2020 at 5:02 pm #1203315441
Not only that, but the expectations of a hugely successful follow-up to WWAFA, WDWG? just got heightened immensely. Let’s face it: the last two artists who swept the Top 4 awards at this show didn’t follow-up well.
Only Christopher Cross did it the same night
Adele did it but in different years. BNA with 19, AOTY, ROTY & SOTY with 21 & 25January 27, 2020 at 2:45 pm #1203315218
She did mention how hard fanbases go for their faves and how they’d drag her when she won BNA, she was clearly just saying that cause she was afraid of backlash.
Yeah. I feel like they seem scared of the internet trolls
IMO they should enjoy their wins because internet trolls and Social justice losers will still drag them anywaysJanuary 27, 2020 at 1:50 pm #1203315079
PJ Morton is slowly becoming the male Lalah Hathaway
In 2 years he will have more Grammys than his bandmate Adam Levine lolJanuary 27, 2020 at 12:38 pm #1203314887
You all are acting as if Billie was the only one campaigning. Lizzo also campaigned and performed at SNL the last week of December. Both were at the AMA’s
