The Parallel Mothers snub could really bolster Titane if France is bold and chooses it over Happening. Nothing against Happening, but Titane would be such an amazing nomination.

With 10 slots, I personally do not think it is beyond reason to predict Dune and Eternals, especially with record low viewership like last year. Nominating even just 2 movies that the general audience will care about could do huge numbers for the ceremony. Frankly, genre haters or indie purists have no room to criticize either– last year we had 8…[Read more]

I mean, Husavik was the only song nominated this year to actually impact the movie. Fight for You, Speak Now, and Hear My Voice were all vaguely about rising up and injustice, and I have not seen the translation of Io Si so I do not know if it was pertinent to the themes of The Life Ahead.
Gaga can write a song hinting at the themes of Gucci–…[Read more]

I think it is fairly safe to assume Gaga will record an end credit song for House of Gucci. I have no idea why she would have her best song vehicle be attached to Top Gun Maverick when she is the lead of another film that will likely score nominations across the board, and song would bolster their total nominations. Plus I think a Gaga original in…[Read more]

Probably “Eternals.” It would definitely be unexpected for Marvel Studios to 1) debut any movie at Cannes but 2) debut “Eternals” so far before release. “Dune” would not be a surprise, and as a Villeneuve film, premiering at a festival checks out.
Same.

THR’s review of Pose makes even less sense after watching the premiere two episodes… did they watch the same show because that was NOT happy.
(Unless they saw the full season, I don’t know if FX sends full season screeners pre-premiere though.)
Anyway, Billy Porter is winning and MJ will get in.

The amount of ‘I’m better than those peasants because I watch the criterion collection’ on this thread is absurd.
We get it. Lady Gaga bad. Marvel bad. That does not mean that either of these two projects are unfathomable considering the hype and awards history behind each. Grow up.

I think we should just remain skeptical but hopeful for The Northman. Same way I am viewing Anette. Both are from very well respected indie auteurs that could and should break in the oscar race, but likely will not.
Thoughts on the prospects of ‘Don’t Worry Darling’? I just rewatched Booksmart and would love to see Olivia Wilde get award…[Read more]

Boss Bitch in best song biggest snub.
I know the oscars HATE contemporary makeup, but goodness how could you not even shortlist Promising Young Woman?

Oscar viewership going down is based on a lot of things: Nielson being a dumb metric of actual viewership, cable-cutting, bad hosts, irrelevant movies (for the general audience,) political virtue signaling in every speech, unnecessary 4 hour run time etc. etc. What some posters here seem to forget, though, is this is a business. The main purpose…[Read more]

To shift gears away from standom fighting:
I’m gonna say it. Elisabeth Moss deserves a nomination for Invisible Man and that honestly seems like something SAG would do.

Worth noting all the RT critics who have assigned M&M a rotten tomato are “top” critics… the victims of the screenplay. All the independent/smaller critics like it, and the fan reaction both here and on film twitter seem very positive. Awards voters and the general audience do not care about an alleged beef between Sam and some critic. In fact,…[Read more]

I’ve got Zeller as my 5th slot, but I kind of want to be adventurous and pick someone out there. What are the current thoughts on Ryan Murphy and The Prom? The variety review is the only thing I’ve read.

Perhaps we are overestimating Trial altogether. It will have been out for almost half a year by the time the Oscars actually occur, and One Night in Miami, another all male ensemble piece, will be far more fresh. And let’s be honest. In a normal year no one from this cast would be nominated and the film would walk away with a screenplay nomination…[Read more]

bellajoe replied to the topic What was the most disturbing movie you've ever seen, all the way through? in the forum Movies 1 year, 6 months ago
In my opinion, Raw, Irreversible, and Climax should not be compared to A Serbian Film, Salo, or Cannibal Holocaust. They’re very well made artistic films, whereas I would call those others exploitative bordering on torture porn. But if you do not like anxiety and turmoil, definitely continue to avoid Raw, Irreversible, and Climax.

I swear if Chadwick ends up losing because of this move……….
All the actors from Trial should go supporting, but Langella is the only one deserving of a nomination. Maybe Rylance just because it is a weak year.
I’ve personally had Murray in the whole time. He definitely has the overdue factor and his snub in Lost in Translation is infamous.…[Read more]

Mank’s biggest two draws are Fincher and the behind the scenes story of ‘Citizen Kane.’ Oldman is not the draw to Mank. He is a lock for a nomination, because Mank is the most egregious case of ‘oscar-bait’ I’ve ever seen, but like Frances in Nomadland, a win is highly unlikely.

Margot Robbie was robbed a nomination that year for Wolf of Wall Street. She and Lawrence played similar characters, but Robbie was actually good. Lupita and June Squibb were the only deserving actresses in that lineup.
