I do a small blog and in my Oscar predictions I called Hopkins, remembering that so many times in the past I went against instinct to predict the “safe” choice: Glenn Close over Olivia Colman, julie Christie over Marion Cotillard, etc. it’s so clear in many years that the best performance is being overlooked simply because of the narrative that is built up during the awards precursors and I wasn’t going to do it again this year. There is no chance that anyone but Anthony Hopkins gave the best performance of the year

I love the chaos of this category, and even if Frances wins BAFTA i don’t see her winning for such a subtle role. Ever since I saw Billie Holliday (which I absolutely despised) i felt like Andra was the clear winner. She sings, she has all the emotional scenes. Hell she has a graphic sex scene and nudity. That’s what Oscar voters usually love. Why she hasn’t swept is actually surprising to me. Now with the possibility of 4 POC winners, would they really go another year denying Best Actress to a woman of color? In all of 92 years and only 1 black actress to win?
This is a dead head between Viola and Day.
