If the Pop categories look exactly like the names you guys predict everyday this grammy season will be a bore. There’s more to the genre than Ariana, Billie and Taylor Swift.
My predictions for POP.
Pop Solo Performance:
“thank u, next” – Ariana Grande
“bad guy” – Billie Eilish
“Truth Hurts” – Lizzo
“Without Me” – Halsey
“Someone You Loved” – Lewis Capaldi
Pop Duo/Group Performance:
“Señorita” – Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello
“Party of One” – Brandi Carlisle & Sam Smith
“Sucker” – Jonas Brothers
“Hurts 2B Human” – P!nk f/ Khalid
“Best Part of Me” – Ed Sheeran f/ YEBBA
“Sunflower” – Post Malone & Swae Lee
Pop Vocal Album:
Lover – Taylor Swift
When We ALL Fall Asleep Where Do We Go – Billie Eilish
Honey – Robyn
Assume Form – James Blake
thank u, next – Ariana GrandeAugust 20, 2019 at 2:45 pm #1203032257
If Gaga’s team is smart They will submit Shallow (LIVE) from the Oscars to Record of the Year. The year is weak enough that it might get in. They got a week to upload the Audio to streaming services.August 20, 2019 at 11:09 am #1203031907
I wonder if Normani could be a contender for Best Music Video for “Motivation”. I don’t think the song will be nominated for anything but its a damn good visual.August 20, 2019 at 9:02 am #1203031605
It sounds like both if you’re paying any attention to what’s popular in 2019. She’s a big deal.
I never said she wasn’t having a great year. But how many times we see artists with great years (even better than Lizzo) and STILL miss the marquee categories?
it happens every year.
SZA had a way bigger year than Lizzo yet still miss Album of the Year. And she was WARMLY embraced by her genre winning BET Awards, Soul train etc. We havent seen that type of Love for Lizzo yet. Which is why she’s succeptible in missing out. Pop voters are fickle. Especially when they have bigger pop stars to vote for in ALBUM.August 20, 2019 at 8:59 am #1203031591
I have her in:
Pop Solo – Truth Hurts
Pop Vocal Album – Cuz I Love You (I just have a feeling she’ll be in Pop. Dont know why)
Rap/Sung Performance – Tempo (f/ Missy Elliott)
Best New Artist – herselfAugust 20, 2019 at 8:52 am #1203031573
he is. Cuz I Love You has had great longevity; it’s consistently been in the top 10 on Billboard and is almost always hovering towards the top of the iTunes charts. She’s been keeping herself relevant with memorable performances at NPR’s Tiny Desk, MTV Movie Awards, BET Awards, etc. And the VMAs next week.
Sounds more like Best New Artist than Album of the Year.August 20, 2019 at 8:42 am #1203031548
everyone, but I’m interested to hear what you guys think of the album and it’s Grammy potential. They’ve only been nominated once and lost, but this album has a possibility
Is she as BIG though to make it in ROTY/SOTY/BNA and AOTY with an album that’s not as ubiquitous like lets say Billie’s or Ariana?
I think she’ll do fine as far as Nominations are concerned.
Pop Solo, Rap/Sung, BNA and MAYBE Urban Contemporary Album (If the R&B voters are welcoming).
I’m just not sold on Truth Hurts being in ROTY and/or SOTY. I think Pop SOLO will be its reward.August 20, 2019 at 8:08 am #1203031482
Y’all are overhyping Lizzo’s chances again but I guess.August 19, 2019 at 7:59 am #1203029941
Is Snoh Aalegra still eligible for Best New Artist?
She’s just on her sophomore album and has only released 1 full length EP (9 songs). She seems to meet the criteria of having less than 30 songs released. And has not exceeded the album limit either.August 18, 2019 at 9:32 pm #1203029380
I am > I was – 21 Savage
FM! – Vince Staples
Igor – Tyler, the Creator
Rap or Go to the League – 2 Chainz
Championships – Meek Mill
Father of Asahd – DJ KhaledAugust 14, 2019 at 11:15 am #1203023720
Billie Eillish’s album is much better than Solange. So I dont know where people are going with that comparison. Solange doesnt have a song as brilliantly written as “wish you were gay” or “when the party’s over” on her album. Sometimes we have to just call it as it is. She’s not someone that they HAVE TO nominate. Her album didnt make any waves outside the first week. There’s not one song on there that resonates that we can say THAT song defines R&B in 2019. Cranes in the Sky actually did that. It was different, it was fresh it was thought-provoking lyrically. She doesnt have that this year. Honestly, she should be snubbed.August 14, 2019 at 11:07 am #1203023705
Without Me will show up in Pop Solo. I dont see it winning ROTY and/or SOTY even if it was a contender. By the time the Grammys come around the song will feel old and she doesn’t have a big album/era to piggyback off (a la Ariana w/ thank u, next).
She deserves a SOTY nod since it was one of the biggest songs of the year.. but no one really is invested in Halsey that much to care.August 14, 2019 at 8:58 am #1203023538
