to me “Spirit” is the only song among the pop solo performance nominees that feels like a fair winner, I mean look at the past winners:
“Someone Like You”
“Set Fire to the Rain (Live)”
“Thinking Out Loud”
“Shape of You”
“Joanne (Where Do You Think You’re Goin’?)”
and now tell which of these nominees fits better with the past winners:
Beyoncé – “Spirit”
Billie Eilish – “Bad Guy”
Ariana Grande – “7 Rings”
Lizzo – “Truth Hurts”
Taylor Swift – “You Need to Calm Down”
to me this category screams BEYONCÉ!
Actually it would lean more in line with Truth Hurts.January 15, 2020 at 2:31 pm #1203286869
I have Lana as 5th. Lol I don’t see how she would rank higher than Ariana.January 15, 2020 at 11:15 am #1203286285
Lol if bad guy wins ROTY against Old town Road and Truth Hurts no way it loses to “Lover” in Song of the Year. The Grammys are in 11 days time to wake up.January 15, 2020 at 8:50 am #1203285926
Praying Rihanna gets announced next week.January 14, 2020 at 9:13 pm #1203285164
If you’re going to give OTR an honorary SOTY nod, then take away that useless AOTY nomination for 7. I feel like everything balanced out for Lil Nas X.
He has no business being in Album of the Year but he was robbed in Song of the Year. Old Town Road should’ve gotten ROTY/SOTY but he’ll live.January 14, 2020 at 9:05 pm #1203285149
OLD TOWN ROAD??? SERIOUSLY… it doesn’t deserve a nomination in SOTY category.. Thet song’s ly
The lyrics to Old Town Road are comical because that was its intent. Lil Nas is a story teller. Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss is a lauded literal masterpiece and it just rhymed basic words — but that was its intent and it was done well. A song’s lyrics doesn’t have to be “deep” for it to be worthy of a songwriting award.
And another thing.. the award is for Music and Lyrics. Name a song this year that had a more memorable melody than Old Town Road?
You can’t. 🙂January 14, 2020 at 8:57 pm #1203285124
SOTY is between the songs that peaked at #1 on the Hot 100. I am just betting on the one that sounds the safest and is the least offensive. Plus.. its the only song that’s been in the top 5 on the hot 100 All voting period.
Its also the only one that’s currently in the top 10.
I am not picking Someone You Loved because I think its the best song nominated – it’s far from Song of the Year but in that lineup it’s a likely winner.
Old Town Road and thank u, next were unfairly snubbed. We hate to see it.January 14, 2020 at 8:37 pm #1203285063

I’m on the brink of changing my Pop Album prediction to thank u, next . Lol I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because I WANT it to win. And 2 because I don’t see her leaving the show going 0/5. I mean it’s happened to bigger stars: Kanye, Rihanna, Jay, Mariah etc but I don’t think she deserves to suffer the same fate.January 6, 2020 at 6:28 pm #1203267081
I hope Charlize gets snubbed. Hoping that Bombshell gets shut out besides Best Supporting Actress for Margot and Best Hair and Makeup.
