Whew, Huns I’m going to take it back to earlier this year and you will be okay. I promise!
After rewatching Promising Young Woman for the 2nd time, Oscar voters made a BIG mistake. As personal and natural as McDormand’s performance was, Carey’s is complex, superb and unpredictable. As an audience, we never know where her character was going the entire time. We never know what Cassies true intentions are. It keeps you guessing until the end. It really is a performance to be viewed more than once to fully understand the praise behind it.October 22, 2021 at 4:53 pm #1204533061
I actually quite liked it. The last 10/15 minutes are a bit disappointing and its ending isn’t very original but it’s still a great enjoyable film with excellent performances from ATJ and Rigg (McKenzie was great too although I wouldn’t nominate her) and sensational direction from Edgar Wright. If the film had a better final act it probably would have been better received and would have been a classic but I’d still give it 8/10 tbh.
This is how I feel, but just give it a 7/10. I feel the same way, but did not enjoy the last 30 minutes or so. But we both agree on ATJ. Her fans have to show up for this. They will not be disappointed.October 22, 2021 at 4:35 pm #1204533035
Also: how bad can Last Night in SoHo possibly be? I’m still so darn excited to see it, and will.
Its not bad at all, just suffers from a mediocre screenplay and a very underwhelming final act. It’s far from bad, the first hour and change is a fever dream with a movie star in the making performance by ATJ and nothing short of a blast.October 22, 2021 at 4:29 pm #1204533019
What if King Richard flops at the box office then what happens?
You know it will girl. We will see what numbers Dune brings in this weekend, but overall WB/HBO releases have been DOA since King Kong vs. Godzilla. I highly doubt Will Smith’s name alone is going to bring this to a smash. People call this crowd pleasing like it’s some damn Disney movie for the whole family.October 22, 2021 at 3:43 pm #1204532978
You’re not gonna get revenue if your movies only showing in 2800 Theatres (same numbers as Green Knight and if 11 Years ago is still relevant comparison, Scott Pilgrim) Thats less than most major horror release this year like Candyman, Old, Conjuring despite its aggresive marketing campaign.
Honey, all those films you have mentioned doesn’t have an up and coming star featured that over 60 million people watched last year and became instant fans of. I’m not saying this will kill it, but 2800 theaters isn’t bad for opening weekend at all. This film’s star and director is already ahead of Candyman, it won’t be as disliked as Old, and people were sick of the Conjuring series. The numbers show that. It was successful, but nowhere near the first two installments.October 22, 2021 at 3:23 pm #1204532950
When this film only released a teaser trailer and this film is talked about more than half to most of the “front runners” for best picture.October 22, 2021 at 2:32 pm #1204532874
The way y’all underestimate Streep like she’s not getting nominated if this is a BP nominee…☠️October 22, 2021 at 2:25 pm #1204532857
Jodie Comer isn’t getting nominated here and that’s final. She could land in supporting though and it’d be a smart move to campaign her there
Is it final? Idk bud. Have you watched her performance? Everyone wants to cancel her just based on the box office alone. It’s pretty disgusting, given the powerful performance she gave in the 3rd act.
I’m not predicting her currently, but nothing is a done deal with her just yet.October 22, 2021 at 9:26 am #1204532277
Knives have been sharpened the moment they announced this movie and their anger only grew with the casting announcement, so if this movie gets mixed reception I won’t be surprised, I can feel the critics are waiting to attack this movie lol . With that being said, it won’t change my opinion about this movie, I’m still gonna enjoy it, I’ve missed Jlaw. It will be her first movie after taking such a long break from acting, plus all the actors involved are already worthy of a watch. Sorry haters but you can’t ruin this for me
Love all of this! There is always that one big profile movie that critics love to trash, but I don’t think it’s going to be Don’t Look Up. I think it’s going to be House Of Gucci. I agree that if this is bad, it won’t change my opinion on Jlaw. I just want an entertaining performance and an entertaining movie. DiCaprio has never taken on a project that was a complete failure. I’m quite sure it won’t start with DLU.October 22, 2021 at 9:16 am #1204532256
Does anyone think Adam Driver might not get nominated at all this season? He’s fantastic in Annette and deserves to be in the awards conversation for it, but AMPAS probably won’t nominate him for it. I don’t see him getting in for HoG unless he receives the kind of acclaim he got for Marriage Story.
He is great in Last Duel, but I don’t see him happening. He could get in for HoG, but like you said, the acclaim will have to be as strong as it was for Marriage Story.October 22, 2021 at 9:06 am #1204532229
Im not sure on this.. Box Office Hit will be tough for Soho, especially after The Last Duel bombed. They will have to face Dune on its second weekend and Halloween on third weekend (+Antlers, as fellow “arthouse” horror) plus they only have literally one week before Eternals arrived. Anya might be a draw and has a lot of stans/online stans, but we dont know whether it will translates to real life or not. Focus/Universal put a hell of marketing campaign, though so I hope this will draw GP Audience to see this. $15-20 Million on Opening weekend will be miracle for the movie itself, given current circumstances
I think the studio is marketing this very well outside of one of the trailers they released where it shows entirely way too much. I think people will appeal to this way more than Last Duel. This has been hyped for months, unlike Duel. This appeals to anyone who loves Edgar Wright, cinephiles, horror movie fans, Thriller fans, Anya’s growing army of followers, etc. I don’t see Dune hurting this films chances at a decent run at the BO. With HBO releasing Dune on their platform, people will choose to watch that at home and go out and see SoHo since it isn’t streaming.October 22, 2021 at 8:49 am #1204532167
*Drops Dune to #10 and removes Denis Villeneuve from Director lineup after watching the film*October 22, 2021 at 8:45 am #1204532149
Dune was SO boring! Gorgeous to look at but an absolute chore to sit through. Started watching it last night and fell asleep, picked it up this morning and the result was the same. First of all, how can you make a Sci-Fi epic with an ensemble cast and none of them are interesting? You can’t make a beautiful film and have no character development, boring storyline, and no real payoff for nearly 3 hours. I don’t see what all the fuss is about? There’s barely any action in it. I thought that’s what this was supposed to be. An action packed Sci Fi fantasy film. Thank god for HBO releasing it as I may not have made it the whole way through if I were in the theater.October 21, 2021 at 6:15 pm #1204531306
She deserves to be in the conversation!October 20, 2021 at 2:47 pm #1204528808
Portman could only dream to give a performance (Bening, Williams and Kidman were better in her lineup) in her career like the one Blanchett gave in Blue Jasmine, Black Swan has to have one of the most overrated performances in movie history, people act like if that was a tour de force lmao, that’s on the level of McConaughey’s/Leto’s overrated mess
She already did Ma’am. Portmans performance in Black Swan was transcendent. She’s The 2nd best actress winner in the last 10 years.
