I honestly don’t know why there’s a part two to this thread already, so…bump so we can finish this one first?March 22, 2019 at 1:47 am #1202825418
Delusional… Lupita Nyong’o will never win something over Renée Zellweger. I mean Kellis, Jan you must be kidding right ? How can you say such things?
Well, it’s Renée Zellweger for one lol. It’s not hard to pull a win over her. And I just thought that Lupita gave the performance for it and will have the buzz (especially with that Get Out Globes shutout in 2018).March 22, 2019 at 1:23 am #1202825405
Hell yes, Kellis! I can’t get Lupita Nyong’o and Elisabeth Moss’ performance out of my mind. So damn good. What did you think of that one funny moment involving Moss and the word “police?”
I completely forgot about that; I literally died when that happened (lol). Everything about Moss was relatable: from the vodka-o-clock (painfully) to the failed Alexa(?) commands.March 21, 2019 at 8:36 pm #1202825167
So I just finished watching it. It was fucking phenomenal.
The beginning was incredibly slow and I was afraid that it was/got overpraised due to a Get Out after effect, but once the copies (the “Tethered”) arrived, it did not disappoint. It’s a walking metaphor for America and society trying to make you conform to its standards. I’m leaving out how I feel about the ending. I didn’t really care for the score in the beginning but by the end it was amazing, especially with *that* scene. Loved the inclusion of the various songs. The editing was definitely made to be in response to Get Out and to win the Oscar, so is the sound. Lupita was amazing and my next favorite was the daughter, then Moss. I think I preferred Get Out more, but I don’t know at the same time since they’re vastly different.
The Oscar noms I’m going to be predicting are: Picture, Actress, Editing, Sound Editing and Mixing. I don’t know if I’m going to predict Screenplay/Director or not; like Luca said, the social awareness isn’t on the nose like Get Out was, so he’ll need to campaign hard for this reason. It’s also going to get into Comedy at the Globes and Lupita is winning the Globe over Zellweger for sure.

Why would you do this to us? Nonetheless, I’ll participate. But I’ll only do a few.
I’d do Velociraptor but I’d get roasted on here, so I’ll let him slide
This next one should be a given as my only actress:

Is it possible Dinklage could lose Best Supporting Actor this year? I feel like we’re underestimating Michael Kelly, it’s his last season and I feel like Netflix will campaign hard here and in Best Actress by using the “farewell Emmy” campaigning method.
I’d love for nothing more than Dinklage to lose because he’s overrated, but I don’t think Kelly will get that many votes outside of nominations. His storyline was heavily criticized this season and was said in a lot of the positive reviews to have dragged the story down (which is true imo). Wright is really going to be the center of the campaign (as she was universally praised) and I think Nikolaj is the only one able to take Dinklage down but even that’s iffy.March 21, 2019 at 2:19 pm #1202824819
Timothee apparently said that the only way he’d do it is with a $15 million pay day (that’s probably a joke though). But Hammer said that he would only be doing it if Luca and Timothee will, and that’s if there’s a decent script. He also thinks that they’re setting themselves up for disappointment. I kinda agree. That plot is way too messy.March 21, 2019 at 1:52 pm #1202824768
I don’t understand why Octavia is being brought up in this. I doubt Ma will break the horror barrier like Us will, but she’s probably going to get nominated in Supporting for her career-best reviews in Luce (she might even be extremely competitive for the win) and Cynthia Erivo will be in Best Actress. Lupita is most definitely going to be a lock with these reviews, success, and message behind the film, so we’re already looking at two black actresses locked for Lead noms, and maybe three with Woodard. This will definitely be a good year for history making.March 21, 2019 at 9:36 am #1202824480
Saving Private Ryan is beyond overrated. But it’s not like there was much of a choice outside of SIL since they were all war movies anyone could get behind. Oh my god, I just realized I’ve watched Life is Beautiful before in middle school and that’s what Benigni won for, and I’ve got to say: like how?March 21, 2019 at 8:44 am #1202824391
Who even talked about race? Lmao. Literally people. Grow up. I’ve seen the film at Sundance and it is not gonna make cash.
It was part of my point and literally part of the movie. A lot of critically acclaimed movies that are primarily made up of a diverse cast have been doing pretty well lately at the Oscars/BO, and rightfully so (though I can’t say the same thing for GB); not that it matters for an indie film. I’m obviously not going to take the word of a person who spent the entire Oscar race trolling us over a number of critics. She may very well end up being the Toni Collette of this year, but in no way does that give you the right to crap on us for wanting her to get nominated. So, you’re definitely the one that needs to grow up.
Edit: if you’re just going to be like M or the troll in the News thread and keep carrying this on days after it started just to try to win the argument, I’m going to have to put you on Ignore.March 20, 2019 at 3:14 pm #1202823576
Honey, it is guaranteed her film will flop hard, it will be as if it was never released. Even if she manages to get awards attention and an Oscar nom (which in itself would be a miracle) she’ll CLose to someone else with support from various branches.
A movie about the relationship between a warden and death row inmates that are people of color is destined to flop hard? In terms of money, wouldn’t Roma be considered a flop with that heavy campaign bill? And also, who said she was winning? It was a miracle for Yalitza’s coattail, so why not one for one of the most respected veterans in the business? You don’t make sense.March 20, 2019 at 3:05 pm #1202823570
It’s basketball, and, nope, I don’t really pay much attention to it to make one lol.
Obviously DuBoisBlanche, ospencer, Miss Sarah Paulson, Wattsgold’s sarcasm, and Sasha was up there until she got kicked out lol.
Edit: Like DuBoisBlanche said, Mukund, Maria, and BICTH are with the rest, talent appreciators are always my faves
