I’ve been predicting Merritt Wever even though I don’t have Kathryn Hahn in because I think the category is empty enough and she’s both familiar enough to voters and the show is seen enough for her to get in this year. But then I remembered her Unbelievable snub and now I’m nervous.
I just finished this show, and I feel like viewers would need to make it to the last couple of episodes to really see Wever shine, but wow she’s great on the back end. So is Hahn!
May 1, 2023 at 6:53 am #1205417757I’m so fucking thrilled. Love this show however messy it can be. Had been fully expecting season 3 to be the final season so this is a lovely surprise. I had actually been thinking recently when I saw the Apple TV charts in the UK that it was more of a hit than I thought. It’s regularly in the Top 5 despite lots of different shows having aired since it last debuted any episodes.
Lol same. I’m afraid we’re the only ones around here, but I’m not ashamed! (though same deal with the US charts )
April 24, 2023 at 7:17 am #1205408436I loved it. I thought it was a great cathartic and humorous experience and that both of the show’s leads were excellent. I can understand though why it wouldn’t be to everyone’s tastes.
I also love it, and liked the first episode last night – though not as much as season one’s best ones.
Emmy-wise, though, I can see how it may not get enough eyes again. It just seems like it is so focused only on the two actors and one friendship, so there aren’t the smaller bits to keep people in it. Even Dead to Me (also about one friendship) has hilarious side stories. Also Hacks, etc.
Would be absolutely delighted if Everett could get a nom….
April 21, 2023 at 9:57 am #1205405481The young actors are blowing me away this season, including Sophie Nelisse – I was thinking Lewis could get a nomination this year in addition to Ricci and Lynskey, but I wonder if there’s a chance for more vote-splitting with so many great performances in this ensemble, including from the younger set.
Do we know how many episodes Lauren Ambrose will be in?
ReplyApril 21, 2023 at 9:51 am #1205405474Drama Ensemble – The Crown (Netflix) – The Morning Show (AppleTV+) – Severance (AppleTV+) – Succession (HBO) – Yellowjackets (Showtime)
this makes me excited for the fall. it would be great if Severance makes it out this year….
and will be really interesting to see in which direction the Crown season 6 goes with critics and voters.

The show is honestly quite funny at points despite its more poignant themes, and that’s largely thanks to how excellent her delivery is!
Just watched the first few episodes – and I agree, I laughed out loud way more than I would expect! Hahn is outstanding (as usual, but she doesn’t always get watched or recognized).
March 15, 2023 at 7:03 am #1205352842I loved the finale – not to say it’s the best episode, but I certainly laughed the most and it was a nice respite from all the gloom and horror. That episode was comedy.
And yes, it sets up the next season perfectly. If that was Rhea Perlman’s voice, will we get her in the next season? fingers crossed!
ReplyFebruary 21, 2023 at 5:31 am #1205311990I’m slow on the uptake but just binged all of Somebody, Somewhere’s Season 1 and thought it was beautiful and hilarious! Hope it’s recognition continues to increase with Season 2… I will be watching on release day, that’s for sure.
ReplyFebruary 14, 2023 at 3:46 pm #1205303901And utilise their supporting cast better! I appreciate how much Covid may have restricted them last season but Lee and Pittman really shone in the moments they were in and weren’t given the roles their talents deserved. Even Margulies was under-utilised somewhat in spite of being fantastic whenever she was on screen. With so many great actors joining this season I hope they can maximise the ensemble’s potential.
yes, this this! There are so many new actors, and returning supporting actors who could do more (Pittman, Margulies, Lee), so if the new showrunner finds a way to truly make this an ensemble piece it could really be great. Given the full house they have, I’m thinking the new season is either going to be amazing or a disaster…
and I doubt we’ll see it til the fall? but who knows.
ReplyJanuary 30, 2023 at 5:11 am #1205274422sooo I’m gonna need Nick Offerman to win the Emmy desperately, genuinely don’t know what could top that… Murray Bartlett was also phenomenal, really hope he gets a nod!
This is where I am, too – both are great, but Offerman was just out of this world amazing. I already see a vote-splitting problem though…
ReplyJanuary 22, 2023 at 11:20 am #1205257706I think the last 3 spots are up for grabs tho, if the series is somehow liked i think she can sneak in. But there’s a scenario where they namecheck Moss and nominate the other two leads from Yellowjackets.
The news this week (via silence) that the Morning Show is likely not going to make this cycle makes these spots especially wide open.
I’m wondering if Connie Britton could go lead in Dear Edward? Haven’t seen it yet…
January 16, 2023 at 7:10 am #1205247666Was looking at what had won drama series at WGA to try and inform my predictions more and it’s interesting to me how (with the exception of The Wire which wasn’t even noninated) almost every show that has won here since the category’s creation either has come off of winning a major Emmy or has been on its way to win one.
ReplyJanuary 12, 2023 at 2:11 pm #12052399524. Fiona Shaw, Andor
Would be so deserved! Recent love for Andor is making me feel hopeful for this..
January 11, 2023 at 12:33 pm #1205237269GoT S8: No Drama Series nom at GG HOTD S1: Won the Drama Series GG
It’s the GG win last night that makes me hesitate in joining all these predictions of doom for HOTD at the Emmys…. I think we just don’t know yet. Not that Golden Globes means *that* much, but it was a big win at a show getting a fair amount of attention.
