Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Rihanna, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, Frank Ocean, Lana Del Rey, Adele, Sufjan Stevens, Lorde etc. I’m sure i’ve missed a few but those listed are the ones that immediately spring to mind.November 23, 2021 at 10:04 am #1204599364
HER getting in the general field on a straight vote shatters a lot of narratives people had of her over here.August 31, 2021 at 10:27 am #1204426767
Because they are relevant to the predictions, this Kanye conversation isn’t
And how is the Kanye/Cole/Tyler discussion not relevant to the predictions? They’re literally discussing who they think is more likely to get into AOTY of the three. Just because you personally think no rap albums are getting into AOTY without a panel doesn’t mean everyone else has to.August 6, 2021 at 9:05 am #1204384126
Certain user here is so insufferable, I really pity anyone that knows them irl. Anyway, Happier Than Ever is an incredible album and the title track is stunning. That’s probably my prediction for AOTY if Silk Sonic and Adele don’t release before the eligibility period ends. I can def see a scenario where Sour takes pop album and Billie takes AOTY.June 14, 2021 at 8:21 am #1204300004
Just got around to listening to Blue Weekend and wow, what a masterpiece. Definitely one of the best albums of the year, hands down. In an ideal world this would easily be nominated for AOTY but i don’t know how possible that will be now that there’s no panel. Rooting for them though.June 13, 2021 at 11:32 am #1204299088
Does anyone reckon Miley can bag a nomination this year? Her album Plastic Hearts was really good imo but i know her grammy record has been pretty awful.June 12, 2021 at 5:18 pm #1204298379
Kendrick’s timing scares me. Releasing before the deadline means going against Bruno again, who joined forces with a loved black artist this time. Voters won’t hesitate to choose the latino/asian + black pair that reeks of grammyness (Talent, success, live instrumentation, non-thirsty, nostalgic, grammy history, respect etc.)
Also, releasing after the deadline means possibly encroaching into the danger zone (Adele). Should Silk Sonic win much this cycle and given Swift’s 3rd AOTY, voters won’t be bothered about giving Adele her 3rd. Especially if she sells like Adele.
As sad as this may sound, I don’t think Kendrick is winning AOTY anytime soon, if ever. When was the last time a rap album won that category? 2004? Voters seem to be biased against rap for some reason, which is a shame.June 10, 2021 at 3:54 pm #1204295590
Solar Power is beautiful. I’m so excited for her new album.June 10, 2021 at 7:49 am #1204294648
So excited for new Lorde tonight. Sadly don’t think she’s going to be much of a contender though but we’ll see.
My favourite album of the year so far has been Collapsed In Sunbeams. I know it’s probably a long shot but it’d be cool to see Arlo Parks in BNA.May 2, 2021 at 2:06 pm #1204239630
Thank you. (smiles)
Some people here sadly think that their favorites are the only people who can get a free pass on anything that they choose to be guilty of. (shaking my head)
Someone earlier in this chat asked why am I smiling. I’m smiling because at the end of the day, NO ONE will be given a free pass where the Lord is concerned whether they believe in his existence or not. (smiles)
God bless you and Morgan always!!!
So you’re just not going to address the fact that you compared low radio airplay and addiction to a grown man being racist in the year 2021? Lol, ok.May 2, 2021 at 10:56 am #1204239365
Yeah, Amy was a racist unfortunately but that other person was specifically comparing her drug addiction to Morgan’s racism which is just an absurd comparison. Nobody chooses to be an addict.April 30, 2021 at 6:30 pm #1204237339
Wow, Abel and Zayn’s impact! This is a welcome change.March 13, 2021 at 8:32 am #1204116723
Oh guys, this year has too many parallels to 2014/2015 (Folklore/BEYONCE being surprise drops; everybody and their moms predicting Folklore/BEYONCÉ for AOTY; both albums being considered as a whole instead of by its hits).
Also, the favored runner up for AOTY being the FR for ROTY/SOTY.
Taylor is Beyonce, Dua is Sam and Jhene is Beck.
I’m not changing my predictions because I’m gonna keep my hopes up for Taylor but:
AOTY – Chilombo
ROTY/SOTY – DSN
And Taylor only winning for Exile.
(I will be so happy if someone debunks this theory)
If that was the case, they’d televise pop duo for sure. Taylor’s one of the biggest stars attending so i reckon they would want to give her a speech.December 18, 2020 at 10:19 am #1203929937
Fiona is such a humble queen. It’s criminal that FTBC didn’t get an AOTY nomination. Not now
