Kaytranada & H.E.R. could very well win Dance Recording. Mind you he’s won that category twice back to back (2021 & 2022). He’s loved in the dance field.

He didn’t win last year, he only won I. 2021 and that’s when he also had a BNA nomination as well. Rüfüs du Sol Won last year.  I think beyonce is a front runner unless they’re not feeling mainstream solo artist for some reason. If not Kaytranada & H.E.R is next in line with the Diplo and Miguel following

Could any of  SOS qualify to be submitted into the alternative field. F2F seems like it could go either rock or alt, but ghost in the machine seems more plausible. Could special or too much qualify?

Now that we’ve seen that progressive r&b is pushing further away from contemporary r&b each year, can we stop thinking people like thinking that mainstream artist are going to be the main nominees in the category. Because majority of the nominees have been nominated before but hardly anybody was predicting them or the others nominated.

In my book I add those three + Rema’s team submitting the original version of Calm Down over the remix that made the song chart at all on the Hot 100 and made it hit #1 on the Afrobeats chart for the first time and for 6 consecutive weeks so far.

I feel like this is something we’re going to see a lot in the global field just because they probably want it to be focus on artist all around the world except for mainstream artist hoping on remixes. Most of the people probably voting in that category probably care more about the original culturally then the crossover remix. This may not be the case for everyone but it feels like it’s going to be a popular trend.

    Question?

do we know if SFG got sent to rap performance or melodic rap performance first? Because if it was the former that may have been why she was moved compared to Latto who was submitted in the later. Even then, would SFG qualify under melodic more, because I remember when people where making predictions a lot people where saying DWHAP would be in melodic but it’s in rap performance (maybe it got move over, we may never know). Either way SFG in pop is not too unorthodox, especially since it’s receiving more success from pop and rhythmic radio, but it’s still a rap song so it can go either way in my opinion.

same with Latto, Big Energy fits both in the rap and pop fields but it could just because the song a more melodic feel and that’s where they submitted it at. It still doesn’t matter until November when the nominations are released, for one hasn’t been nominated in over 7 years and the other has never been nominated. All of this may just be in vain.

Mary should submit “Need Love” with usher for R&B performance. Even if she submits the solo or duo version of “Gorgeous” to Traditional R&B I’d say she’s a lock. Early on the ballot and literally an icon in her own right. I want her to have a win for this album. *(id rather her pull a shock and beat Silk Sonic in R&B Album)

She might send her song with Anderson .Paak to R&B performance since it was the second single but I’m not sure if he’s able to be nominated as a group and solo artist.

they put her in solo female every other time she was nominated. I think because she’s marketed as the face of the group instead of the group itself.

Seems like Zach Bryan got completely snubbed for the CMAs. Very bad sign.

I’m not surprised, his success seems to come from sales from his albums compared to country radio, which majority of the nominees came from. He hasn’t even reached the top 50 in radio. But he can still get nominations though in my opinion. The correlation from CMAS to Grammys aren’t always true and he can still get love thanks to Americana and rock voters along with country.

there’s not really a category for jazz songs with vocals. It’s just best jazz vocal album. They usually submit their songs in the arrangement categories.

The success of Bad Bunny does not bother me, what bothers me is that the people of the United States erased themselves only from Bad Bunny and not the chance for other acts. Every time a Latin act begins to stand out in the United States, Bad Bunny comes and releases albums and singles. If you are going to look at Billboard’s Latin album charts, there are all Bad Bunny albums occupying all the top positions. The success of Bad Bunny in the USA is nothing extraordinary because people from Puerto Rico have always been with Americans as something cultural for years. The only really commendable success was that of Shakira who came from Colombia and got her place.

bad bunny success has been getting bigger and bigger since 2018. I loved his album and I don’t a lick of Spanish. I know a lot of non-Spanish speakers who enjoys the album just because it’s good music.  I do agree that Bad Bunny success does block the success of other Latin artist. But it’s just like how it was with Drake when he was the main person at number 1 for majority year a few years.  He’s just that big and have enough appeal to stay on top despite the fact that majority of Latin music in America is consumed by mainly Spanish speakers. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t other Latin artist making waves, they’re just aren’t as big as him. It’s just reality tbh.

I feel like we’re predicting to many mainstream artists for SWFVM. They’re going to be some random names nominated  that not on the radar compared to 5 big artist fighting for the same award.

Elton John & Britney Spears’ duet, “Hold Me Closer”, is our next Friday (August 26). Potential BPDGP contender and/or frontrunner?

it’s been over 10 years since both of them was nominated for their own work. So I think they’ll probably miss the nomination unless it’s an undeniable hit and have some longevity during the voting period.

I think the soul train awards are more likely to have more r&b albums nominated for album of the year than rap album. Especially when two of them are way over a year old. Also kiss me more was nominated last year if I wasn’t mistaken.

I predict Lizzo ends up in Pop Album. I don’t think they would consider her album ‘Progressive R&B.’ ‘Urban Contemporary’ was a much vaguer title with vaguer rules.

I agree in all honesty progressive R&B is a little harder to predict until you see peoples submissions. I remember when the category got reintroduced a lot of artist that where originally submitted to the urban contemporary category where submitting to best R&B and best pop vocal.  The guidelines are a little different so there much  leeway where they just put any popular black artist into the category.

Do you think Brandi will submit ‘You and Me on the Rock’ in Pop? It does not sound like pop. I liked her album (not her best, but solid) and I think it would deserve an AOTY nomination.

now that they introduced the new category in American roots for best Americana Performance it could be put there. But I feel like dependent on if she decides she submits other songs for American roots field. Her being being put in pop with that song wouldn’t be so far fetch if she already taken care of in her field.
