Sound editors were impressed by the dialogue editing, but not the foley editing. Those are relatively grounded films, so they do not have sound effects like films that were nominated over it, like Ready Player One.
Thanks for answering. I noticed that they never nominate musicals in the Foley category and I thought that different rules apply to them and that they aren’t eligible for Foley. For example in 2017 Florence Foster Jenkins, La La Land, Moana, Sing Street and Trolls were all nominated in Musical Sound Editing but not in Foley.February 18, 2019 at 6:52 am #1202780303
Why didn’t they nominate BR, ASIB or Mary Poppins in the Foley category? They were in the Dialogue category but not in Foley.February 18, 2019 at 12:12 am #1202780098
Mixing is a lock for Bohemian, which makes a lot of sense. But in Sound Editing usually voters pick a film that has actual foley FX in it, and wins the one with the most effects or more evident ones. I think First Man has the most Fx and shouldn’t shock if it wins without a win anywhere else, but A Quiet Place is the more evident one, and monsters play very well on this category.
First Flop isn’t winning anything for God’s sake.February 16, 2019 at 11:41 pm #1202778802

Can we agree that First Flop isn’t winning ANYTHING? It’s insane some people here predicted it to win 3 Baftas: Editing, Visual Effects and Sound. HahahahahahaFebruary 9, 2019 at 12:16 pm #1202766331

I think John Ottman did an amazing job on BR. Haters can choke.
