harry was phenomenal las year. but his absence on chart shouldn’t surprise you imo.
??
His absence for ARTIST doesn’t surprise me since it counts ALL of the artist’s discography. How else do you think Drake and Eminem made the list considering they didn’t have huge releases last year? Even Justin Bieber was hugely aided by his back catalogue (and Ariana was pushed thanks to it as well). Harry has 22 songs and his first album did fine but it wasn’t even close to the smashing success of Fine Line.
What I’m talking about is when IFPI’s BEST SELLING ALBUMS comes out, which is the other anual list IFPI releases. Fine Line is almost certainly gonna be in it, and most likely top 5, because it was 3rd best selling behind BTS according to Mediatraffic, which while incomplete gives you a good overall look at the best selling worldwide projects.
I’m not sure where I lost you tbh.
ReplyMarch 5, 2021 at 6:09 am #1204084947is shit. They only count few countries. They completely ignore ASIA.
I didn’t know Japan and South Korea weren’t part of Asia… the only major Asian country they don’t count is China, and there’s a very valid reason for that. Most Chinese sales are label-driven. They just buy truckloads of physical CDs that are sold for way below the allowed threshold for charts in most countries and dump them. The other Asian countries barely contribute sales. They wouldn’t really move the needle for worldwide totals. A Platinum album in Singapore is 10,000 units, for instance.
Mediatraffic is incomplete, but it’s a good enough guide to know which albums are trending high, and it’s the only tool we have for weekly control. Incomplete =/= shit. Get over yourself.
ReplyMarch 5, 2021 at 4:41 am #1204084809When are they posting biggest albums of 2020? Biggest artists was severely skewed towards artists with long discographies (except Billie who’s just a monster of sales and streams).
Harry’s lean discography keeps playing against him lol. But it does make his stats more impressive (opposite of Dua).
Mediatraffic has him at #3 behind two BTS projects, but it doesn’t include China sales (where he’s not that big), so someone might overpass him there. Especially because his biggest weeks were in 2019.
ReplyMarch 5, 2021 at 4:32 am #1204084786rumous has it harry is performing tpwk with the dance choreography. that would be hilarious, in a positive way hahah
The rumor is actually more speculation. The choreographer for the music video posted a story the other day that said “back to rehearsals” and tagged two of the MV dancers, the caption was “TPWK”
It could mean he’s doing that, but it could also mean that the choreographer just likes the motto tbh.
Another rumor has it that Harry is doing a medley. This one comes from a supposed member of the Academy, though I don’t know how they would know that. If he’s doing a medley, then part of it could be TPWK with choreography.
It could all be rubbish and he’s doing something completely different, too. I don’t know if they would give a medley to a first time nominee who isn’t even in the general field. Seems like a lot.
ReplyNovember 25, 2020 at 3:41 pm #1203873425It’s simply hilarious to me that the same people that spent months saying Harry wouldn’t touch the GF because of the boyband stigma and that he first had to earn his place are now acting like that’s not exactly what’s happening and he couldn’t have possibly be in the top 20 of the GF when he got in with every straight up nomination plus best music video above their own fav, VMA Best Director winner. But anyway, this forum is infested and there’s literally no point in trying to argue, considering there’s 30 pages full of white privileged children attacking a black man for being offended at racism.
November 25, 2020 at 3:37 pm #1203873414Why wouldn’t they think that a person that’s been realeasing music for 10 years isn’t “ready”? Maybe they just came to the conclusion that it wasn’t worthy of it in the first place.
That’s literally what they said with his first album. Ask them why the boyband stigma exists in the first place.
November 25, 2020 at 3:36 pm #1203873412Oh my fucking god, grow up. Just gonna repeat what I’ve been saying since noms because the argument y’all are forcing is ridiculous. Billie takes all her noms Jacob is 2nd in AOTY not Dua If you think these are stupid, please tell me so we can discuss that rather than Harry and Taylors sex life.
Get your crew to stop attacking Harry out of nowhere and for no reason and there’ll be no reason for me to bring up that she said she wants him to stop her wedding.
November 25, 2020 at 3:32 pm #1203873398girl please the BRP committee didn’t not put Harry into the GF cause they thought he “wasn’t ready” lmao. Billie literally swept last year despite being an even newer artist.
You’re right I completely forgot about Billie Eilish’s stint with a boyband for five album cycles with zero nominations. My bad.
November 25, 2020 at 3:31 pm #1203873396I didnt attack Harry, lol. I said congrats here. Just people saying he was shoe-in for AOTY were kinda too ahead of themsleves with that. One step at a time. He was no Billie Eilish to take on all the noms in GF. The Grammys dont believe that much in the internet hype you know.
Internet hype when he got Hitmaker of the year, music legends like Mick Fleetwood, Bon Jovi, Stevie Nicks, and Sting rooting for him, and a brand new album (his second ever) inside the 500 best albums of all time voted by the industry itself. It’s laughable at this point how you always have to get in a little jab, even when no one is mentioning him, even when you got everything you wanted for Taylor. It’s simply telling. That’s all. You stir the pot and are obsessed with him. Maybe you want some of the d*ck that had Taylor d*ckmatized for years.
November 25, 2020 at 3:28 pm #1203873388And taylor got AOTY and SOTY over him? your point? I don’t get the academy “snubbing” him because he isn’t ready when many new artists got nominated in the GF. What was the point of blocking him?
He’s not a new artist. That’s the point. This entire forum kept saying he was probably not gonna make it into the GF for months because “it’s his first time around”… Taylor doesn’t have to earn his stripes, Harry does.
November 25, 2020 at 3:24 pm #1203873368An Album can’t be nominated for AOTY if it didn’t make the top 20.
You know for a fact that rule isn’t followed and a ton of the nominated albums did not make it into top 20. Coldplay first of them all.
November 25, 2020 at 3:20 pm #1203873351??
Yes? What is your question? 90% of the AOTY albums were BRP picks and a ton of them most likely didn’t make it into top 20. Are you gonna tell me it’s not likely that Fine Line did? Considering he had shown he he has industry support? I repeat: his video was nominated above Taylor’s video that won her Best Director at the VMAs.
November 25, 2020 at 3:01 pm #1203873304HDD fangirling for Harry Styles once again and look what happened, at least this time Styles got the genre votes, due to strong chart presence and being on pop and the music video nod was extra. Paul Grein being a Harry stan must have been pissed with FL not placed in AOTY.
Search Harry Styles + Grammys on Google and every major media outlet is calling it a snub, including music critics and peers. Fans are content, not throwing a fit (like y’all predicted they would), so now you have to create a scenario where some specific journalist who you have deemed a fan is upset instead. The obsession, even when moriahface hasn’t posted for 10 pages and Taylor got all the nominations in the world and a clear path to a third AOTY you’re still thinking about Harry. Maybe YOU are mad that he f*cked your fave (and she loved every second).
You know it’s extremely likely that Harry got in with all of his submissions and just got blocked by the BRP for not deeming him ready yet. No one was predicting him in Best Music Video and yet… he got in over Taylor, who was the favorite after the VMA reward.
November 24, 2020 at 4:13 pm #1203868063Also, did Coldplay even submit at all? Cause I thought they didn’t.
They did. But I have a hard time believing they made top 20.
November 24, 2020 at 4:10 pm #1203868046Justin has been nominated and won left and right this entire era and at first I just thought it was simply that tv networks decided to give him room because of ratings but this is just sus. Especially Yummy, because even Stupid Love would’ve made more sense. There were five songs that could’ve been nominated with no need for a sixth. Having a sixth slot to fit in Yummy feels out of an SNL gag skit level of ridiculous.
The way Harry barely got any acknowledgement from awards ceremonies this year in favor of Justin doesn’t sit right with me either. There’s something very rotten there.
