Wow. Just wow the viceral reaction I had to this episode. The writing, directing, and acting was sublime. Some of the best TV I have Watched ever.
ReplyJanuary 27, 2023 at 8:49 am #1205270488They arent rescinding anything. That would start a horrible precedent.
I do not think they are going to rescind anything. They either will suspend Frances and others etc. or I feel they may add whoever was 6th place (assuming it was Danielle or Viola to the lineup.)
January 26, 2023 at 6:31 am #1205268314Do you guys feel with the narrative of the no black actress nominated. It will help Yoeh to win. Because I feel she deffo needs to win SAG it’s a must. BAFTA I feel it goes to Cate.
As a member of SAG I can assure that narrative is going around in supportive of Yeoh even though there are other black actresses at SAG the consensus at the moment seems to be vote Yeoh to give her the momentum she needs to win the Oscar.
January 26, 2023 at 6:26 am #1205268304Do your SAG friends share the same outlook on Blanchett? I can’t imagine it being a widespread perspective but i’m not in sag so idk
My generation and SAG friends are younger, they respect Blanchett as an actress.
ReplyJanuary 26, 2023 at 4:22 am #1205268164I have a hard time believing Davis will win SAG this year. Last time she was in the running for the Oscar in a race where all five women could have conceivably won. This time, she isn’t Oscar nominated, and even if she was would not have been in the conversation to actually win. I don’t see her being a spoiler in what is clearly a two horse race.
Davis is not winning. I’m in SAG and she isn’t even in talks. She’s probably last place tbh.
January 26, 2023 at 4:18 am #1205268158No, you have no idea then of how it works. People will be voting for michelle yeoh to block cate from winning. The discourse around her has been overwhelmingly negative for the last week even in the industry
Yes, agree with Joe. Rarely ever is the person who “gives the best performance.” The one people vote for lord of things garner the voting. Likeability, performance, career, popularity, etc. it’s why Viola does so well at SAG she is loved by the industry and people want to vote for her, it’s not always that they think she was the best of the best but more so she is beloved, kind, delivers great work, and is appreciative of the community.
People are looking to block Blanchett, could she still win absolutely, but I think it’s going to be Yeoh
ReplyJanuary 26, 2023 at 4:12 am #1205268152Cate winning at the guild would seal things completely but i do not see how it happens. No one likes an elitist and over the last week I think you all well aware how negative people’s opinions on her have become. Tar is a divisive film bur Cate could have survived that with her status but now that looks unlikely. The film has very passionate supporters
Correct I think Blanchett is really going to have to campaign if she wants to win, and I honestly do not think she wants to. It’s looking like it’s going to go to Yeoh. Although, you can never be to sure.
ReplyJanuary 25, 2023 at 6:14 pm #1205267811The landscape is obviously changing. You can’t look at the past with regards to what is happening NOW and if things are being rewarded fairly.
Or are you someone who believes we should suddenly reward no white actors for the next decade to makeup for the past?
Sis,
I never discounted Blanchett she is a revelation and BEYOND in Tar, but Deadwyler in my opinion role is just as challenging and Davis has proven her chops meaning they could’ve played Lydia Tar not saying it would’ve been as good or better, but they could’ve done the role for sure. Doesn’t take away from Cates Brilliance.
ReplyJanuary 25, 2023 at 3:51 pm #1205267605Andrea got the nomination based on her PERFORMANCE, which impressed people to the point that they went out of their way to campaign for her.
Her film being higher rated on metacritic is an example that shows this was not some simple occurrence of a celebrity rounding up their friends to vote for them. There was true passion for what she did and the movie for some people was a “hidden gem” they were moved by, a movie that was not getting any public recognition, as opposed to Till which was clearly campaigned.
If critics had actually given To Leslie an equal amount of viewership as they did Till, and if there was a strong campaign existing for To Leslie from the beginning, then it’s likely Andrea would have received more nominations throughout the season than Danielle. As it stands she already got voted as being better at both the Chicago film critics and ISA.
“Riseborough’s impeccable performance cannot be overstated. Her passion shines consistently whether Leslie has hit her lowest low or is riding her highest high. All of this contributes to the film’s poetic ending, which is sure to leave you teary-eyed and reinvigorated with a new lease on life.”
Notices like that are absolutely something that gets awards – if people watch the movie and if people feel like it’s the right time to recognize a particular actor. Andrea’s performance, like many other great ones, had no chance of a nomination normally, because the lack of a studio campaign. It’s wonderful people took it upon themselves to support something they believed in, and to see a tiny bypass the studio awards season machinery to land a DESERVED nomination.
This isn’t new though. People are acting like this type of campaign is new. It isn’t, it’s just the first time that it actually worked. We are going to see more of this in the future.
January 25, 2023 at 3:49 pm #1205267596I don’t want Danielle to win out of pity ya know? Vote for her if you feel she’s the best. I want her to win because people felt she was the best.
I mean I was Planning on voting for Yeoh.
And to answer the question about the overlap, I do not know the exact amount, but there is a decent overlap and I know a few SAG members who are in the Academy. I will say there is no consensus in any of the acting categories except Quan.
ReplyJanuary 25, 2023 at 3:44 pm #1205267579Yeoh is going to SAG
January 25, 2023 at 2:10 pm #1205267263I wonder if Danielle Deadwyler will win at SAG.
I’m in SAG and two conversations are happening. Vote for Danielle because of her snub, or if you were voting for Danielle give your vote to Yeoh so she can edge ou Blanchett.
