PEN15 can be pretty good at times but it also has a tendency of trying too hard which makes it feel more out of its depth in juggling its premise than it usually is. I have mixed feelings about Maya Erskine but Anna Konkle is definitely good in this role.
As for awards, the writers did embrace it right off the bat but I personally don’t see it…[Read more]

Oh, I thought you might have confused it with Charles talking about how the pregnancy was difficult for Diana in Favourites. I would say I don’t think he necessarily meant that the pregnancy was the reason for the gloominess and all.

I’m extremely positive that this did not happen. The Crown can play fast and loose with history for dramatic purposes sometimes but I doubt they would go this far.

No need to apologise. It’s an internet forum. Nothing serious.

Gillian Anderson doesn’t have a bigger narrative than (or even comparable to) Sandra Oh. I find it absolutely absurd that anyone would even say that.

Kidman has been pretty terrible so far. The exaggerated reactions and the need to always be doing something is irritating. It’s not like her reviews are unanimously strong either so she could be potentially snubbed which I’m certainly hoping for at the moment.

Everyone knows what Netflix will be pushing more between Mank and Chicago 7 so there’s no need to bring it up when it’s given everyone is predicting the race keeping that in mind.
Netflix can obviously change what they campaign based on the precursors and stuff but they’ll obviously have a priority order beforehand. They aren’t throwing money…[Read more]

I am surprised by all the hype and praise surrounding this show that has in the end, absolutely nothing to say, whether it be about its central character or her place during that time. It was painfully mediocre in both its storytelling and ambition, something which became abundantly clear around the middle of its run. Yet, it still somehow manages…[Read more]

Loved the inclusion of Emmy snubbed Daisy Edgar Jones, Hong Chau and Josh O’Connor. So many others that weren’t that close to being nominated as well.
A little disappointed with the snubs of Zoe Kazan and Lenny Abrahamson, considering their shows did extremely well with noms and both were the best things about them.

Mukund replied to the topic Which show should win Outstanding Comedy Series? 2020 in the forum Television 4 months, 2 weeks ago
Agreed. Outside of O’Hara and Murphy, there’s really nothing that separates Schitt’s Creek from every other run-of-the-mill network comedy for me. Fun but largely unimaginative in both conception and execution.
People come for Eugene but I feel Dan’s shortcomings as an actor are more than often masked because people find his character more fun.…[Read more]

But Unorthodox also largely focuses on Esty and Yanky only. I don’t think a couple of scenes with Moishe and Leah make it any more of an ‘ensemble’ show and thus, a more prominent casting pick than something like Normal People tbh.

They are not though. Connell and Marianne’s relationship with their friends and family is an important part of their characters, and indirectly or sometimes directly influences their relationship with each other. In some cases, they are even responsible for driving the story forward, like with Connell’s depression.
Normal People does focus…[Read more]

International Cinephile Society.
I guess it might not exactly be what you were referring to since its members include film academics and journalists as well, and not just critics, but ICS always has more exciting and varied picks (especially in nominations) than any of these critics groups. It certainly breaks the monotony of seeing the same…[Read more]

I only see a path for Snook to get that deserved win at the moment. Most shows that exploded in acting nominations (GoT S8, WTSU, THT S2) couldn’t manage multiple wins so this would be in line with that. I do hope at least Cox manages to win as well though.

There are many but the ones that hurt the most are Normal People in Series and Daisy Edgar-Jones as I feel they were fairly close to getting those noms.

The more time I spend looking at these nominations the more frustrated I am with how bad and seemingly random they are in general. Even for shows I’m rooting for. Like I love Succession but that Braun nomination was beyond unnecessary and undeserving. Watchmen gets five acting nominations but Chau and Nelson aren’t a part of them?
