Going from one of the best shows on air to being the most overrated one in such short time is indeed quite an accomplishment.

Extremely excited for this.

Exactly. Her and Tatiana winning is one of the few things the academy has gotten right under this new system. Unimpeachable performances.
Speaking of AVBS, Foy is great as expected and Bettany keeps up with her as well as he could, but the show itself is thoroughly mediocre in practically every other aspect. I’d be fine if this ends up being an…[Read more]

Strong as the performer of the year is a weird choice when he didn’t even have the best performance on his own show. Snook should’ve been an easy pick if they were gonna go with someone from Succession.

As much as Guest made everyone tired of her, Kristen Bell probably. Can’t think of many actors with TCA noms for both drama and comedy.

Not a fan of the show but that episode is genuinely very good. That trophy should’ve easily gone to Veep though. They bottled lightning with that finale. Just brilliant.

Westworld is deserving of a mention because of its first two seasons alone. Flawed but still better than the insipid, shallow works being pushed often. There are worse things to focus on in that list imo.

It was a good episode. Intense and engaging. The cast remains great, with Snook and Cox being the obvious standouts as always. There does seem to be an occasional self-consciousness in the writing that I don’t think existed before. But I guess that sort of thing becomes inevitable with anything with this much fan fervour. Hopefully it eases back…[Read more]

I think the show actually does acknowledge that, though in a very subtle way. The DV shelter and the therapy sessions conducted by them are predominantly white. So is the transitional housing facility, the court mandated parenting class or the social services office.
Basically all the places shown helping struggling people are filled with white…[Read more]

There are multiple things about The Queen’s Gambit that are undercooked or explored very superficially. That’s true for Mare of Easttown as well, like how badly the character of Siobhan is handled for example.
I thought both shows had potential after strong first episodes. They devolved into something much less intelligent and interesting with…[Read more]

These Cherry Jones comparisons are 💀
Even a mere minute of portraying Elizabeth requires much more from Foy than whatever Jones did in her submission. There is more thought and effort put into it than simply ‘reading a speech’.
The work is there in the voice modulation to portray the younger Elizabeth’s sharper tone. It’s in her body language…[Read more]

Goldberg was the best amongst the nominees, though I wouldn’t have minded Chlumsky finally getting her dues either. Going outside of the nominee pool, I doubt anyone came close to D’Arcy Carden’s work in Janet(s) that year.

If we go by the nominees:
2017: Thandiwe Newton
2018: Vanessa Kirby
2019: Maisie Williams
2020: Sarah Snook
2021: Helena Bonham Carter -

I’m not really worried about Staunton. Anyone who has followed her career would know that she can (& will) bring the gravitas and calmness required for the role which was the main thing I found Colman struggling with. Staunton’s material will also be way juicier than Colman’s. She has real potential to match Foy, despite how tall an order it…[Read more]

I thought the scene was great. I don’t think anything was unintentional here, either on Corrin’s part or Caron’s. It came across exactly as it was intended to. It’s clear from how Caron shoots it that it’s not a simple recreation of that event. He dials up the awkwardness and the absurdity. The camerawork also occassionally feels a misfit with…[Read more]

No Small Axe even in a line-up of eight? Yikes. Bad decision. Not too happy with the near rejection of The Crown either, especially when you look at some of the stuff that pushed it out in certain categories. At least P-Valley got in. That drama line-up is lowkey embarassing outside of 2-3 shows.
I didn’t think much of Jane Levy before watching…[Read more]
