BEST ACTOR
- Denzel Washington – The Tragedy of Macbeth
- Leonardo DiCaprio – Don’t Look Up
- Benedict Cumberbatch – The Power of the Dog
- Ben Platt – Dear Evan Hansen
- Adam Driver – House of Gucci
BEST ACTRESS
- Lady Gaga – House of Gucci
- Jennifer Lawrence – Don’t Look Up
- Frances McDormand – The Tragedy of Macbeth
- Kirsten Dunst – The Power of the Dog
- Jennifer Hudson – Respect
I agree. It feels Denzel is the favourite. AMPAS love him and Denzel is the American DDL. About the women I don’t sure but Lady Gaga could win for HOUSE OF GUCCI.
ReplyFebruary 25, 2021 at 7:05 am #1204060611Because Hollywood has a very narrow-minded view of which women are able to lead successful films. There are plenty of actors in the GOT cast who have the talent to win Oscars, but don’t get the roles/exposure due to age among other factors. Lena Headey has never been particularly interested in the limelight. Carice van Houten in Instinct was better than the entire best actress category last year, but the film was unable to get an international distributor after a festival run. She’s been the biggest actress in The Netherlands for a number of years though. Just last year, Natalie Dormer gave a fantastic performance in Penny Dreadful (and had already impressed before GOT in The Tudors), but isn’t offered many high profile roles. Aside from those three, plenty of the actors who weren’t part of the central cast have also continued to get work (Bean, Dance, Dillane, Lesser, Varma, Huisman). Pedro Pascal is currently leading a huge Star Wars show, and Momoa has done well with Aquaman.
I agree. Hollywood is ageist only against women. If you are a man, you could work until 91 like Clint Eastwood. But if you are not Meryl Streep, it’s over. For some weird reason, Hollywood 100% hates old women.

ReplyFebruary 24, 2021 at 10:30 pm #1204060110I suppose it always happens. Jon Hamm was perfect in MAD MEN but nothing in films. Same with Bryan Cranston. Films are more difficult than TV
ReplyFebruary 24, 2021 at 10:16 pm #1204060099He’s really ditching Mindhunter now.
Fincher said Mindhunter was expensive and its Netflix viewing numbers were too low. I think it’s the truth because his new Thriller starring Fassbender is produced by Netflix too.
ReplyFebruary 24, 2021 at 6:39 pm #1204059880Fassbender is liked by A List Directors: Ridley Scott, Steve McQueen, etc…. So it’s still easy for Fassbender to get great films. Great films at least on paper
ReplyFebruary 24, 2021 at 6:35 pm #1204059875Not really. Fanning is too indie for that and never get what so called “Rave reviews” in a relatively big movie like Ronan or Lawrence. Or maybe she is more similar to Ronan since both lead tons of mediocre/overlooked indies that no one really seen it prior turning into their 20s, often being the best part of bad movies (Live By Night for Fanning, The Host for Ronan, as examples.) Fanning has yet to have her “Brooklyn” to establish herself as adult thespian, though “The Great” seems to be her breakout in adult phase in her acting career For Zendaya, she was never taken seriously as an actress before Euphoria, mainly due to her status as former popstar and Disney Channel frontlaďies
Zendaya looks too young. It’s weird but J Lawrence looked way older than her age and that is why it worked for her. Zendaya looks younger than her age so she looks comical in sexy scenes or talking about sex and power
ReplyFebruary 24, 2021 at 6:26 pm #1204059868It’s more of an Ensemble. Like The Godfather 1. That could be very bad news for their 3 Supporting Actors. The 3 of them already won Oscars: Leto, Irons and Pacino.
ReplyFebruary 24, 2021 at 6:10 pm #1204059832Isn’t that the problem thought? He gets typecast as cold. Sure he’s great at it, but playing cold after playing robots, Steve Jobs, and steely Magneto time after time doesn’t exactly scream “look at his range!”
I agree. But some really great actors play usually the same: Tom Hanks is always the every ordinary man, Denzel and Russell Crowe only play powerful, successful Manly Men.
ReplyFebruary 24, 2021 at 6:02 pm #1204059811OK, weird, I assumed the question was more about career longevity, which is a difficult thing to predict. Even from The West Wing, people like Allison Janney, Martin Sheen, Rob Lowe, Bradley Whitford have had a long path towards success. The best indicator is not so much the one-hit wonders but how much potential they actually have. Kit is not a good actor imo, but right now he seems to be fine. Richard Madden and Maisie Williams are excellent. So is Alfie Allen. It’s hard to read the tea-leaves this far in advance but I can see why it feels like somebody like Peter Dinklage may well be up for an Oscar nod while the younger actors have a long road ahead. And why not? For most people, even those who were great in the show and not-so-great outside it, like Sophie Turner, it’s seeing what sorts of decisions they make after. And let’s be honest: being in a failed film like The New Mutants is hardly a big indictment. Otherwise, it would have counted as a huge ding against Anya Taylor-Joy. Or for example Hailee Steinfeld in Bumblebee. It’s not really an indicator of future success.
I was talking in general. Dinklage is playing the lead in Cyrano. Looks good. And Dinklage was doing a film with Mel Gibson and Michael Fassbender. He seems to get All the offers from the GoT cast. I love Peter Dinklage and Nicolaj Coster Waldau in Game of Thrones. Where is Nicolaj?.
ReplyFebruary 24, 2021 at 5:54 pm #1204059796Ayy. Seems with this and Next Goal Wins that Fassbender is making a career-comeback after the slump of drivel he did after Steve Jobs.
It’s about Killers. Fassbender will play an assassin. I think Fassbender is at his finest when he plays cold. He was great and really Underrated in PROMETHEUS and COVENANT

But those are first theaters. 45 days later Streaming

?. MGM and Paramount? I read only MGM
ReplyFebruary 24, 2021 at 5:08 pm #1204059741I can see Kevin Feige saving Emilia Clarke. She seems like a franchise actress. I do love her though.
I prefer her as Mera instead of Amber Heard in Aquaman 2
ReplyFebruary 24, 2021 at 4:53 pm #1204059709Tyrion was my number one in Game of Thrones. And his brother Jamie was my number two. I loved both. Why only Peter Dinklage?. Nicolaj Coster Waldau deserves Better
