Summer is getting nominated but I don’t think she’ll win. The R&B voters have their favorites, and most of them fall into a specific type that Summer doesn’t fall under. Unfortunately she won’t win unless she’s undeniable. Still Over It is too good to ignore like they did with her debut but not impactful enough for voters to pick her over their favorites (Robert Glasper/PJ Morton)

And Renaissance by Beyoncé belongs in Dance (if they don’t want to put it in the Dance field then it should be considered Pop). But neither is R&B. Sure they both have R&B elements, but putting either or both in that field is just plain racism I’m sorry. Steve Lacy should also be sent to Alternative. With that said if those albums go to their correct field I think that will leave the possibility for Summer Walker, Ari Lennox or Ella Mai to sneak in.
Funny it’s just so funny to me. Y’all beat me down that Beyoncé and Lizzo were R&b just for the committee to put them in other genres 😩
ReplyOctober 3, 2022 at 4:15 pm #1205106073Naomi Ackie is not getting nominated over Viola Davis, Olivia Colman and Danielle Deadwyler. I know you can’t based things off of a trailer but she would have to give a hell of a performance to have that be the outcome. I do think she could make GG.
Right now Blanchett, Davis, Deadwyler, Williams and Yeoh seems like the likeliest scenario. The biggest question is will Olivia Colman pull an Olivia Colman.
October 1, 2022 at 10:06 am #1205104094So I was reading this article about Danielle Deadwyler’s performance ⬇️
https://variety.com/2022/awards/awards/danielle-deadwyler-till-best-actress-oscars-nyff-1235390276/
And the journalist stated they they’ve been trying to convince other pundits to watch the film but apparently they’ve been told by those pundits that they refuse to watch a film so gruesome. This is blatant racism!!! Nobody says this to white contenders in films with dark subject matter.
I really want Viola Davis to win this year, but now I will be rooting for Michelle Yoeh and Danielle too. A woman of color needs to be the winner! I’m so tired of seeing women of color get overlooked.
September 14, 2022 at 12:21 pm #1205083708Once again people are underestimating Viola Davis. You know the most nominated black actress, triple crown winner, in a movie that has rave reviews, in a transformative performance unlike anything she’s ever done before… And what’s so funny is the same thing happened with Ma Rainey. So many ppl on this forum underestimated her the full season, and yet she ended up getting nominated, won Sag, and likely came extremely close to winning. Maybe she won’t win but ruling her out for a nomination is like ruling out Meryl Streep.
September 14, 2022 at 12:12 pm #1205083703India Arie, Robert Glasper, & PJ Morton might win Traditional R&B Perf. Pure Bait.
Robert Glasper has some serious connections with R&B Grammy Voters, he’s essentially the male version of H.E.R. So you would be smart to bank on him winning except… H.E.R. Will also get nominated. IMO I think there will be a vote split between those two songs which will make way for Beyoncé to win, especially now that there isn’t a committee.

ReplySeptember 14, 2022 at 4:31 am #1205083111Halle Berry is black.
She’s just as much white as she is black, that’s why she’s biracial. At the end of the day regardless of what you consider Halle to be, it is disgraceful that only one WOC has won the award ever. Unambiguous black women without white family members deserve recognition too.
Personally, I think Viola Davis should win. I really think people only overlooked her greatness because they are so used to it. It’s like “oh this is Viola Davis being Viola Davis again”, but why shouldn’t that level of greatness be rewarded again, just because she already has dozens of awards. Either Viola Davis or Michelle Yeoh should win, it’s long overdue.
September 10, 2022 at 3:08 pm #1205075983The reviews for The Woman King are showering Viola Davis with praise. A few critics are even saying it’s her best performance ever. She’s definitely getting nominated.
November 2, 2021 at 2:58 pm #1204553758I’ve never heard of Blxst but considering how well he did in nominations at the soul train awards I think he’s a safe bet for a nomination. Noticeably missing is good days, it also missed the amas. It’s possible she might only get nominated for Kiss me more. Especially when there’s no committee to give Jacob C. a Best R&B Song nomination. I think Wild Side is getting a best music video nomination. All signs are pointing in that direction. I’d be happy with that as long as it gets in somewhere.
October 26, 2021 at 9:20 pm #1204542284So the Lauryn Hill song is indeed a new song and it was composed by her and another producer. Based off of the tweet that Roc Nation made I’m assuming it will be pushed. The snippet also sounds amazing. The only thing hindering it is that Lauryn is very reclusive and has been for a very long time and I doubt that she’ll play the game or campaign. But I do think she’s in the race now, even if she’s just in the top 15 so far, and if Netflix plays their cards right, I think she and/or JAY-Z will get the nom.
ReplyOctober 23, 2021 at 9:56 am #1204534237With Finneas in play I have a feeling this will be an Esperanza Spaulding type of year. I truly think she won that year because of vote splitting. And I think there’s definitely gonna be some vote splitting between Olivia, TKL, and Finneas.
ReplyOctober 23, 2021 at 7:47 am #1204533855Idk how Dawn Richards is eligible..wouldn’t that make Normani eligible? I’m gonna guess it’s because Dawn hasn’t had a huge breakout year and some could say Normani had a huge year in 2019 with Dancing with a Stranger and motivation.
Anyway idk why Tems isn’t a topic of discussion in BNA. She had a huge year. Collaborating with Drake on CLB, which could give her an AOTY nom. And featuring on essence by Wizkid with Justin Bieber on the remix. She’s bound to be nominated for both or one of those projects so why isn’t she apart of the discussion here?
ReplyOctober 21, 2021 at 7:43 pm #1204531389I don’t think Giveon will make it into AOTY on his own. I could be wrong because this is The Grammys after all but H.E.R. and Jazmine Sullivan seem like the biggest R&B competitors this year. And when you add in Doja. It’s really hard to see how he comes into play…BUT let’s not forget the new AOTY rule where almost anyone involved with an album gets nominated. And Justice and CLB could both easily be nominated. So he could get around 6/7 nominations(8 if I’m wrong and all three are nominated)
October 20, 2021 at 4:08 pm #1204528979Normani receiving a nomination before an album debut would be indicative of the support she’s garnered within industry circles. However, I’m not holding my breath just yet. “Wild Side” is a good song but it didn’t meet the expectations some placed prior to the release. Also, Normani has been snubbed before with much bigger hits. I’ll always root for her but I wouldn’t be surprised if she & Cardi miss.
Her snubs in the past were probably circumstantial. For instance love lies was submitted to R&B instead of pop. When the song went #1 on pop radio, so submitting it to R&B made no sense. And dancing with a Stranger was likely due to the fact that the Grammys didn’t care to nominate Sam Smith(a voter actually told someone I know this). As for motivation it was fairly new, and was submitted to pop solo during a highly competitive year.
The difference with Wild Side is that it’s likely being submitted to the right category, With the right collaborator(Cardi B), And is one of the biggest R&B songs eligible.
