I don’t get the hate for The Woman in the Window. I guess it is all about expectations. I tuned in expecting a disaster. It was ok. Even surprised me. I didn’t see the story going the way it did.
ReplyMarch 16, 2022 at 11:04 pm #1204855219Is this what you are talking about?
I found it to be a perfectly fine promo. Had a smile on my face and looking forward to their hosting.
It’s not that deep. Just enjoy the evening.
No. That one is ok. The one I hate discusses what I described above.
March 16, 2022 at 9:02 pm #1204855049Got it. There have been many though: Gabourey Sidibe, Alfre Woodard, Lupita Nyong’o, Quvenzhané Wallis, Ruth Negga, Cynthia Erivo, Viola Davis, Radha Blank, Andra Day, Taraji P. Henson, etc.
But only a few of those were in high profile films that could even get a nomination and I still say that only Viola (The Help) and Lupita (Us) gave Oscar winning caliber performances.
The others you list were all good but I don’t think you can claim they were robbed of an Oscar they deserved.
Last year I thought a black woman would win but after watching all the films finally I have to agree that Frances gave the best performance of the 5 and carried her film. Andra was good but it’s not an injustice that she lost and Viola was once again in the wrong category. (I’d still would have voted for Youn if Viola had been in supporting though.)
ReplyMarch 16, 2022 at 8:50 pm #1204855036It has the three hosts sitting in a kitchen getting to know each other. Then Wanda Sykes says I pee in pools. Then they discuss other places to pee and where they will pee at the Oscars. (they wonder if there will be a fountain they can use)
So gross and classless.
ReplyMarch 15, 2022 at 1:30 am #1204851077Historically or recently? It’s embarrassing if you mean you can’t come up with a single black woman to win besides Halle Berry in 94 years.
I meant since Halle Berry.
ReplyMarch 14, 2022 at 9:15 pm #1204850798Black women still don’t get leads in films. Since Halle Berry can you name a list of black women the academy overlooked who should have won? Viola Davis I guess for The Help but I think she lost more due to the role seeming supportingish. Lupita for Us but that had more to do with the film being horror than her being black.
Other than that I can’t think of a black woman who deserved to win. If they don’t get the jobs they don’t get the nominations.
(and what about other races. Last year saw only the second Asian woman in history win an acting award.)

ReplyMarch 13, 2022 at 9:14 pm #1204848642Anyone see the film where Bernadette Peters played Tammy Faye? How does Jessica compare?
March 13, 2022 at 5:17 pm #1204847527And McDormand, Rockwell, Janney, Oldman
and Nicholson, Hunt, Williams and Basinger in 1997
March 13, 2022 at 5:15 pm #1204847516Where was Jessica Chastain? Shouldn’t she have been there? I mean Frances McDormand can get away with skipping precursors but in a close race I think Chastain should have showed up.
Is she filming something?
March 12, 2022 at 11:05 pm #1204843867Are they being shown in the US? Where? When?
March 12, 2022 at 1:52 am #1204842219Zellweger has double the amount of screen time as Zeta-Jones in Chicago. Zeta is supporting.
Mahershala Ali in Green Book and Christoph Waltz in Django Unchained are the supporting actors with the most screen time.
ReplyMarch 9, 2022 at 9:45 pm #1204838996Tammy Faye and her husband caused a lot of poor people a lot of grief.
I hate the way this film and Jessica Chastain have tried to rewrite history and make her a hero.
Vote Kidman, Vote Kristen, Vote anybody else.
March 3, 2022 at 12:30 am #1204828759I just saw this. I was a bit confused about Kirsten Dunst’s character. I didn’t get why Benedict’s was driving her so crazy and to drink so much. I didn’t even realize that he was the reason until the very end.
Anyone care to explain why he bothered her so much? Does the book go into more detail?
March 3, 2022 at 12:26 am #1204828753He never held back his feelings. Watch the year he was nominated for Pulp Fiction. He says F@@K! when Martin Landau wins.
Landau was very good as Bela Lugosi and had come close twice in recent years. That’s the way it works. (and Jackson it could be argued was category frauding down to supporting.)
He was a total unknown with Jungle Fever. Probably wasn’t campaigned enough.
