This back and forth on Renee, Scarlett and Charlize (even though I am stanning her and Alfre) is snooze-inducing
Neon better start promoting Alfre, Lupita and Awkwafina better get some momentum, The Good Liar and Little Women better get good notices so that Mirren and Ronan can enter the race because I am bored.
Finally saw Joker and the film looked amazing. Totally down for some technical nominations but I think I may have hated the film. It was uncomfortable, I found myself looking at my watch and honestly, I found Phoenix to be completely one-note. He gave a committed performance, but it didn’t do it for me at all.
Falling Down is a much better and d…[Read more]

What about the rumored Lauryn Hill song from the upcoming Queen & Slim soundtrack. Could it be a contender?
At this juncture, unless reviews for the film and her performance are stellar, I do not see Mirren getting in at the Oscars.
That said, SAG loves, loves, loves her (remember that year she got nominated twice for The Woman in Gold and Trumbo) and I can see her sneaking in there.
This thread is a mess – mainly because the intent is so far from clear.
Worst Oscar Bait:
The Iron Lady – I hated this movie. The direction was terrible and I found Meryl’s performance to be nothing short of a bad impersonation and completely soulless.
Boyhood – I love Linklater but I could not connect with this film in any way. I…[Read more]
For me, All About Eve is brimming with lived-in, crackling performances.
In recent years, the criminally underrated Rachel Getting Married is a master class of acting from all involved.

How the hell did Cherry Jones make it in for Guest Actress for The Handmaid’s Tale. After all the flack (which was justified) that GD gave when she was nominated at the Emmys (and won) and she still gets in here.
A bit disappointed with a number of categories BUT that Supporting Actress Drama lineup is pretty perfect. Thandie, Lena and Christine…[Read more]
It’s called basic human decency – something I feel you lack judging from these comments as well as your comments around Awkwafina.
I do think you are a troll because nobody here can have an opinion on something without you trashing it and coming after everyone 24/7. There is zero reasoning with you.
I do not and will not tolerate your ignorance.
At the moment I’m predicting:
Woodard (respected vet in a critically acclaimed indie)
Theron (respected former winner in a timely film about sexual harassment and playing a real person)
Zellweger (the comeback kid – former winner receiving raves for playing a real person)
Awkwafina (the ingenue receiving great notices for an indie film that o…[Read more]
