Denzel Washington in training day- remove his performance and thats a legit b movie.
Charles rocket tried to say the shit show that was its pat, but nothing was saving that.
Few others but those will go in unpopular opinions for when i put them outMay 1, 2021 at 10:46 am #1204238229
Eh actors can come back from it if they don’t repeat. Certain Marvel actor had quite a big case of domestic abuse (his ex was a famous actress, he was arrested) but he never repeated and no one should drag that again. What happened happend, he grew out of it and poses no threat. That’s why I don’t name him. He’s been working with big directors and even Brie Larson didn’t roll eyes when they promoted Endgame together. They had a very freindly banter. So point being, if Depp doens’t get involved in anything like it, including wife beating him up or mutual beating, he could come back with the right role. Climate changes constantly. What wasn’t big deal then is big deal now and then it won’t be. It’s all cyclical. Nothign lasts forever trends least of all.
The Oscars once gave a standing ovation to a statutory rapist, this aint that kind of party anymore. This is a different environment from back in the dayMay 1, 2021 at 10:44 am #1204238227
Unless depp is definitively cleared and by that I mean unless Heard legit admits to her bull, he’s done. Unfair but true.May 1, 2021 at 8:30 am #1204238091
No one was talking about impressions here. I was talking about nailing a character. It means she was pitch-perfect as that woman. Was it Oscar-worthy? Some say it was, some say it wasn’t. But it wasn’t bad acting and you know it.
And Jay pharoah’s pitch perfect as Kanye every time he does him, doesnt mean he shouldve got an emmy when he played him on Saturday Night live. If the best one could say about someone’s performance is that they nailed their targets essence then it wasnt a good performanceMay 1, 2021 at 8:27 am #1204238089
I don’t see how this is controversial. The Aviator is near-universally regarded as a better film than the competition and DiCaprio’s performance is regarded as one of his best. An actor playing themselves is barely a critique, as this is pretty much what a majority of actors are paid to do – play a variation of themselves.
Slow your role on the whole universal thing, it’s 86 percent at rotten tomatoe and if it wasnt a scorsesee film it wouldve been lower.
It is when you’re playing an actual historical person. He wasnt playing Howard Hughes, he was just being Leo with OCD, other than maybe Clint Eastwood, easily the worst performance in that lineup.April 30, 2021 at 4:30 pm #1204237150
Hanks in Philadelphia as a gay guy forced to stay in the closet worked for me, only real issue is this pretty much came across as Denzel’s movie since his lawyer had the huge character transformation and pretty much had the best scene in the movie. That being said, I wasn’t adverse to Hanks winning it, especially given his competition.April 30, 2021 at 4:16 pm #1204237137
She played a real-life figure and based on what I’ve seen from Leigh Anne Tuohy, Bullock nailed the woman’s whole persona. So although some prefered others to win the actual prize, I think calling her acting ‘basic’ and ‘bad’ is still a stretch.
Jay pharoah can do a helluva denzel amongst the many other impressions he can do, Im fairly certain that he’s likely not winning awards anytime soon. That was just a long way of saying mastering impressions is the most basic level of acting.April 30, 2021 at 10:21 am #1204236313
People really gonna die on that hill where they say that Leo shouldve won the oscar for playing a richer version of himself with ocd? If y’all wouldve said Depp or cheadle was more deserving, I could maybe see where you were coming from, but dicaprio? lol.
Other than the obvious benini for life and penn for milk, I’d probably go John Wayne.April 30, 2021 at 9:41 am #1204236225
Bullocks acting in blind side was basic as hell. Her acting in crash was better than that hallmark acting.April 30, 2021 at 8:06 am #1204236108
Sandra Bullocks win was so bad it almost guaranteed that she wont win another oscar ever again.
Julia Roberts was another bad one.
Few others but this category more than most tends to get their winners rightApril 30, 2021 at 7:35 am #1204236064
The political speeches are so annoying. Kaluuya’s speech is one of the worst speeches I’ve ever heard, telling the audience what they need to do just because he played Fred Hampton in a film was so cringy I had to mute. If these people could keep things short and sweet and the films have a rewatchablility factor like Captain Philips, The Wolf of Wallstreet and American Hustle and not Nomadland, The Father and Minari the viewership would go back up. How Nomadland is Best Picture winner is embarrassing to me, If House of Gucci and Lady Gaga are up for multiple oscars next year, the viewership will jump again.
That was a political speech for you? His telling hollywood to do better was hardly a problem. Id be willing to bet you were one of those who found no cringe in Ricky gervais shit-talking hollywood at the globes despite the fact that he was doing the same exact thing.
The only problem with the speech was that he ended it foolishly and thats all people seem to be talking about.
Speeches werent the problem, an over-indulgent director who decided to buck trends by messing with the order of awards and removing clips for the most part was the problem. Id imagine the pandemic and lack of blockbusters didnt help either.April 27, 2021 at 4:53 pm #1204232404
Yea, if she got people to vote for her 3 times then yea she deserves the 3 oscarsApril 27, 2021 at 4:52 pm #1204232400
Meryl couldnt get nominated for the prom. Her hold over the academy is done. I dont think either gets to 4 but gun to the head, Frances would get their firstApril 27, 2021 at 4:47 pm #1204232390
They sadly don’t exist in the diversity conversation. I have no idea why, but I find it absurd that we are not talking about it more. Or the fact that Youn just literally won. I think that’s worth celebrating. Asian talent has done well in the last two years and I hope that they will have more and more opportunities in the future. Sandra Oh, bring it on, girl!
Cute that people think that Youn winning a fairly weak category is somehow proof of anything and thats ignoring the fact that supporting doesnt seem to have race problems.
