Sharon Horgan and James McAvoy could be surprises here for Together. They could hit critics awards too.

I don’t know. While I don’t think this performance from Close is the greatest to potentially win, she had scenes where I can recognize a voter wanting to reward her for those. Dern did not have those scenes, and really won an Emmy instead that year.

The producers are really doing Kandy a disservice with this double shantay. First, they heightened the Tamisha drama, and even fixed the next episode (hula hoops for sex, what kind of s**t), and then had Kandy eliminate Tamisha in a lip sync she barely won.
Then, she has continued to coast on her “personality” that keeps being ripped apart by…[Read more]

Low key if Jennifer Coolidge had one big scene or maybe even just two more regular scenes I’d be campaigning for her. She was my favorite supporting player.

BAFTA was so her last chance and unfortunately she was nowhere on the “longlist”

It isn’t. Went back, read it again, you said imagine being a rape victim. This is exactly what I have been implying. Like you don’t know who you’re asking that question to or what they’ve been through. Very traumatizing.

Yeah it’s trolling. Imagine expressing your thoughts on a film, and have someone go “Valid, but now do it again but imagine being raped.” That’s trolling, disgusting, and offensive to millions of people.
Anyway, glad the film is getting visibility. It’s definitely topical which will help her stay in the conversation.

You don’t get to just say “imagine being raped” in regards to speaking on the film. This is more offensive and inappropriate to any victim of assault or trauma. Just because the movie doesn’t end like the Color Purple doesn’t mean it’s offensive. It’s tough to watch. Life is tough. Being a woman, being a victim, and dealing with trauma are tou…[Read more]

She just goes there with it, and many people and women will really appreciate and be glad so many points were made in this film. But yeah some men in the academy will surely be turned off, and I can see some people refusing to even think about why she went that route.

As one, I’m not offended and the multiple points of the movie were made. It is satisfying because she managed a way for it not to end so rough and sore, while providing HONEST truth of the real world, it just is hard to see the reality of the world sometimes. Especially, when you like the main character so much and her performance. Also your “…[Read more]

The ending is upsetting for a viewer but with all of the points it makes… it’s masterful and satisfying in the very last three minutes.
Just wish Laverne Cox was more fleshed out!!!
Ready to see Kirby, Day, and Zendaya! But I feel Mulligan is going to be my favorite performance of the year like Pike in Gone Girl.

Well I think I watched the film, and you watched over the film. Reading some of your other comments just seems you didn’t grasp it, or understand the theme and missed all of the nuance. Not saying you have to LOVE IT, but calling it cute shows you might need to take a little more effort and care when you watch a film.

I just watched the film and respect your opinion but I definitely have a few issues with this post. Firstly, there are quite a few Oscar scenes in the film. The first 10 minutes, the scene with McLovin. Any part of the nurse scene. (Which will probably be the clip.) It’s the kind of role Amy Adams needs because if she had something like this s…[Read more]

PerksofBeingGriff replied to the topic Disappointing Book-To-Film Adaptations That Could've Been Oscar Contenders in the forum Movies 1 year, 7 months ago
Carey Mulligan and DiCaprio were too good for that movie to not do what it was supposed to. It was a hit at the box office specifically for their parts in the trailer. They delivered in every Lana Del Ray montage in the film, but it just wasn’t what it was supposed to be.

I hate how the early front runner, that keeps their lead, gets so much hate. It is always so intense. Just watch the race because it is still months away, degrading women for 4 more months is going to ruin this thread and the forum. Also, making Viola Davis the victim this year? Please.

The least exciting All Stars. I feel like Cracker’s surge is just a producing ploy to try and add the tiniest bit of suspense before Shea’s win. Juju should be at the top but because there is just one person lip syncing she only has one win. I bet you shed have a BenDeLaCreme record right now in these challenges with the old rules. Probably 30,…[Read more]
