Havent heard anything. I wonder if late breakers are quiet since they are waiting how Irishman lands at NYFF. Dont want to get your buzz swallowed up. Its strange since they should be done by now.September 21, 2019 at 4:24 pm #1203091339
The Force Awakens should’ve been number 1, but it didn’t ever get any higher than number 3. It was hurt by Star Wars’ unpopularity in China. If it weren’t for that, it would’ve at least have overtaken Titanic. It’s currently number 4. And you claim that nobody care about Marvel movies when it comes to awards, despite the fact that Black Panther won several Oscars and was nominated for Best Picture last year. And while predicting awards is a huge part of GoldDerby, there’s more to the site than accolades. There’s plenty of forums about movies and shows that aren’t awards contenders.
Uh…it’s number 1 bro
Sorry but I must have missed the cultural relevance of Avengers: Fanboy Service? To try and equate it and Black Panther is laughable.September 21, 2019 at 4:10 pm #1203091314
1917 is the dominant frontrunner thanks to it’s one-shot nature and the fact that Roger Deakins is no longer cursed thanks to Blade Runner 2049. A Hidden Life and The Lighthouse are also safe bets right now, the former because Terrence Malick films almost always get in, and the latter because it’s filmed in such a clever and unique way. The last two nominees will probably be Picture nomineees: my bets right now are on Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and The Irishman.
You are missing Ford vs Ferrari. Hidden Life is not getting in. Malick films havent been nominated since tree of life lolSeptember 21, 2019 at 12:29 pm #1203090999
Endgame is the highest grossing motion picture of all time. You can say MCU films aren’t Oscar worthy, but it’s factually wrong to say no one cares about Marvel movies.
No it isn’t Star Wars: The Force Awakens is. No one cares about marvel movies when it comes to awards. This is an awards website remember?September 21, 2019 at 11:12 am #1203090815
no one cares about marvel movies. they have never done well at oscar and endgame isnt going to stop that trend.September 21, 2019 at 11:10 am #1203090812
What’s strange is a lot of users seemed to be all over Scarlett when Marriage Story premiered. But now she keeps getting insulted on here. Is it all because of the Woody Allen comment? What’s also interesting is that both Adam Driver and Laura Dern have only increased in popularity and hype on this site since the premiere.
This site hype is the worst in judging reactions for oscar. It mostly works for the controversial films that end up doing well like 3 billboards or green book. But for every other film, yeah dont bother.September 21, 2019 at 7:26 am #1203090495
If it underperforms in quality
– There will be a backlash critically
– Then audiences will say “eh it’s not THAT bad”, it will get high streaming numbers
– Second wave of reviews outside of the festival more favourable
– Netflix pushes Marriage Story way more than it
– The film gains underdog status despite being Scorcese
– This narrative leads to Netflix reprioritising it
– It overperforms on Oscar nominations because of this underdog status
Yeah you dont get to be predicted across the board sight unseen and be called an underdog. Usually in these cases when a late breaker underperforms buzz wise, it underperforms Oscar wise. It already has status because it is scorsese, it isnt going to magically get more because people view it negatively.September 21, 2019 at 7:23 am #1203090489

The Office missing from Best Ensemble.
FYC: The Office, Parks & Rec, 30 Rock, and Community in all categoriesSeptember 20, 2019 at 2:51 pm #1203089545
Ad Astra about to overperform at box office and it’s still gonna be a flop. It really is First Flop all over again.September 19, 2019 at 10:56 pm #1203088034
Again, we don’t know when Little Women and Bombshell will first premiere, either (nobody answered my question on the general prediction thread either so I assume nobody in this forum knows). So using that same logic that Clemency’s late release will hurt its chance that some users suggest (screw Neon’s campaign), wouldn’t these films be hurt too, even a little bit?
Yup. And dont forget that the calendar is moved up this year. Even less time to create buzz for late films!September 19, 2019 at 9:17 pm #1203087939
If “Downton Abbey” is financially successful, which it will be – I can see Maggie Smith being nominated for BSA. She’ll be nominated at the SAGs and BAFTAs at the very least.
Downton is first film to make SAG presence felt. I would not be surprised if the sheep vote for this one.
